Monday 21- hot 109!

I did my stretches, lifted dumbbells, rode my bike, core trainer, yoga, lifted weights, punched heavy bag, and ran up the hill and back carrying 5lbs in each hand.
A new dove nest has appeared on the side of my house. One egg in it so far.
I stayed up late to watch the SpaceX launch. The first attempt on the 19th was aborted just as the main engines fired up, so last night as the countdown reached t minus 0 seconds, me and thousands of like minded folks around the world were willing this rocket off the launch pad and into space! This is history in the making. This is the first commercial spacecraft to visit the ISS. This company is going to open up space big time and make it affordable, too! It cost $63 Million a seat aboard the Russian spacecraft. Wikipedia "At a 18 May 2012 NASA news conference, Space X confirmed that their target launch price for the crewed flights is $140,000,000 or $20,000,000 per seat if the maximum crew of 7 is aboard. This compares with the current Soyuz cost of $63,000,000 per seat."

Tuesday 22- temp high of 102
I did my stretches and ran a mile and a half. I am making a garage out of the workshop so my car can share it with my tools. I did a rookie move trying to drive into the garage; I hit the side post and broke off my right hand mirror. I fixed it with Liquid Nails and it has held so far.
I went for an evening walk. About time I got to doing this again.

Wednesday 23- it is very windy, too dang windy to do my run or walk.
I did my stretches, lifted dumbbells, core trainer, yoga, lifted weights, and punched the heavy bag.

Thursday 24- a little windy, but cooler outside.
I did my stretches and ran a mile and a half.
I worked on the garage that I’m going to call a Carport for now on. I began reading Edgar Rice Burroughs “A Princess of Mars”.

Friday 25- it got very windy around noon just as I completed my exercises.
I did my stretches, lifted dumbbells, rode my bike, core trainer, yoga, lifted weights, punched the heavy bag, and ran up the hill and back carrying 5lbs in each hand.
I updated the Copper Mountain Mesa Website and sent out the Newsletter.

Saturday 26- it’s still a little windy, but nice and cool outside. I ran a mile and a half. I rode the Harley to mailbox and visited with my neighbors who are up for the weekend.

Potluck was a pleasant surprise with over twenty-five folks showing up on a Memorial Day weekend. Marcie Hines came with her son Paul and cooked up some Spanish rice for us to enjoy. Cal Myers brought a large fruit dish. Chris Jonas made his fabulous macaroni salad. Rose Matich simmered some corn to perfection. Ruth Malton concocted a very delicate mush mellow color bowl jella that was mighty tasty. Marie Morrison got creative with her gooey chocolate brownies. Not to be outdone, Dorothy Jacobsen spent hours making up a sweet potato casserole, a Mexican casserole, and fig bars. Dyan Carrol’s seafood pasta salad and sugar lemon cookies were to die for, but being the polite folk that we are, we just shared them. Board member Tim Atzei brought beverages. Mary Koval cooked up a storm bringing Chicken Tetrazzini Florentine and wacky cake, while her daughter Chris amazed us all with a mixed bean and ham soup and cupcakes. Of course I brought my usual fare. We had a mighty fine time! Took some potluck over to Kelly's for her to fest on.

Sunday 27- it was a very nice day! Worked on the garage.

Saturday 29- I did my stretches.
Today’s Weather was: Temps of around 42 to 69 degrees, calm winds, humidity around 20 percent, clear skies.
According to the National Weather Service: “Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Light wind becoming west southwest between 10 and 13 mph. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph. Sunday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. West wind between 7 and 11 mph.”
I called family and friends throughout the day like I try to do every Saturday. Things seem to be slowly getting back to kinda normal; maybe you have to work at normal I guess, at least I do.
I made my usual turkey stuffing (out of the box) and headed down to the community center for Pot Luck. We had almost 29 starving desert folks showing up to participate in the feast. Kris and Mary cooked up some mighty fine turkey tetrazzini and a chili corn casserole, Marie Morrison brought some tasty chicken and dinner rolls with butter, Ruth Maltron made a fruit salad, Rose brought her peas and corn, Marcie Hines delivered to us a meat and noodle casserole and jello ice cream that was mighty special, Steve Coulson and Kathleen out did everyone with the amount of food they carried in, and Chris Jonas made his award winning macaroni salad. Dang didn’t we all get stuffed!
At Pot Luck I heard that long time resident and friend Ruth Tuttle is in a continuing care facility in Yucca Valley after having a heart attack last Saturday. We all wish her a speedy recovery!
I watched the new episode of “Fringe”; I love this show. Then I watched the first episode of “The Dresden Files” not knowing what it was about. Has something to do with casting magic spells and witches, something I’m really not into.
Thought: If you can’t be true to yourself then neither should anyone else. (Needs work?)
I did my stretches, practiced my guitar, wrote to my journal, posted it to the web, and called it a night.

Saturday 27- I did my stretches, ran down to feed Princess and back- about one mile, lifted weights, and rode my bike.
Today’s Weather was: Temps of around 45 and 69 degrees, N- NW winds 10 to 14 MPH, humidity around 15 percent, clear skies.
According to the National Weather Service: “Sunday...Sunny. Highs 72 to 74 in yucca valley to around 75 in twentynine palms. Light wind becoming southeast around 10 mph in the afternoon. Sunday Night...Mostly clear. Lows 45 to 49. South wind less than 10 mph in the evening becoming light.”
I called Family and Friends and yakked them to death for a spell. While I was doing that I was downloading AVG anti-virus ISO boot disk that when ripped to a CD and booted onto a computer will run a virus check before the OS loads; never know when I might get someone’s computer to run this on.
I made stuffing with raisins for potluck and went down to the community center. There were around fifteen folks there ready to eat the delicious food waiting on the table. Dyane Carrol brought these fantastic tacos and a bundt cake made from an old family recipe. Dyan got mad at me because I kept calling it a butt cake. Dorothy Jacobsen’s spaghetti squash black bean casserole and quinoa salad was mighty good. Chris Jonas brought his famous potato salad instead of his famous macaroni salad this time. Marie Morrison’s baked beans with bread were a hit. Rose Matich brought her peas and carrots. And Marcie Hines made a vegetable tray full of carrots, tomatoes, celery, and broccoli, with Ranch Salad dip. Marcie also brought her three grandkids along and it seemed to me that they were enjoying the festivities. All is well in our little community for a change.
I went for my evening walk listening to Astro 10: General Astronomy: Celestial Phenomena.
I read aloud from the textbooks: “Astronomy Today" about Venus’ atmosphere; “The Cell: a Molecular Approach” about Centromeres that play an important role with distributing chromosomes during mitosis- when a cell divides.
I continued drawing the picture of me, my telescope, a turtle, a palm tree, with the mountains in the background. Kris, a dear online friend of mine, wants me to put it up on the web when I get it done. I guess I’ll have to now but I’ve seen better from a third grader.
I just starting to read “Chasing the Dime” by Michael Connelly when I was saved by a call from Stuart and Debbie who used to live out here but moved to Oklahoma to live on a Indian Reservation. They been gone for three years now, we had a lot of catching up to do; one hour and thirty three minutes to be exact.
I watched “Cobra” (1986) starring Sylvester Stallone. I had to laugh at Stallone and his manly ways. It was about a slasher who leaves his victims in a public area. The whole LA Police Department is at a loss to find this murderer and as a last resort call in Cobra. But it turns out to be a group of crazed criminals, and they are after the only women who can identify them. Cobra (Stallone) kills them all in the end; about a hundred of them. I thought that was funny too!
I did my stretches, practiced my guitar, wrote to my journal, posted it to the web, and called it a night.

Saturday 26- did my stretches, lifted weights, and rode my bike.
Today’s Weather was: Temps of around 71 and 103 degrees, light breeze, humidity around 20 percent, clear skies.
According to the National Weather Service: “Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 103. North northwest wind between 3 and 9 mph. Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68. South southeast wind 8 to 10 mph becoming west.”
I caught the side of my thumbnail on the new gate a few days ago and it ripped into it, ouch! So again I will make this post short because of my sore thumb which makes it painful to type and play my guitar.
I called Family and Friends until it was time to go to potluck. We had pert near twenty hungry folks show up! Karen and Danna brought chicken parmesan that was to die for. Marie baked a carrot cake. Marcie made lasagna. Dorothy cooked up some chili relleno that wasn’t too spicy. Dyane made my favorite lemon truffle and a chicken casserole. Bob and Angela Rainstar visiting from Yucca Mesa brought some London broil. Tim Atzei made a delicious lemon poppy seed cake. Chris whipped up his famous macaroni salad. Rose had her peas and corn. And Bob Seeley’s fruit platter was mighty fine! Oh yes, I brought my barbecued beans. All the food was first-rate! (I’ll fix this up when I write it up in my news column)
On the way back home I stopped off at my neighbor Ginger’s and brought her and her kids some leftovers from potluck.
I went for my evening walk trying to work off all the food I had eaten. I read from the astronomy book “Astronomy Today” for a spell. Then I went outside with my binoculars and called a few friends as I stargazed. Delta Cephei looks about the same as it did last night so I think it may be at its peak.
I did my stretches, practiced my guitar, wrote to my journal, posted it to the web, and called it a night.
