June 2017

June 2017

Thursday 01- 91 to 68 degrees.
I did my stretches and worked out with the 20lb dumbbells, and took the dogs for an evening jog.

Friday 02- 95 to 66
I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.
I watered most of the plants and worked on my scooter finally figuring how to get the connections off the gas tank.
I have told everyone on FaceBook: I am taking a month or two off from FaceBook to get my new book "Upon Ashen Roads" edited and published. I also need to get a lot of other stuff done that I've been putting off and I need my head in a clear place to do all this. I will check for messages on the FB Messenger if you want to contact me. I will continue posting my monthly journal here.
I love you all and see you back sometime in July or August.

Saturday 03- 102 to 74
I did something but forgot to write it down.

Sunday 04- 103 to 75
I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.
I worked editing my book “Upon Ashen Roads”.

Monday 05- 104 to 73
I did my stretches and took the doggies for a nice evening walk.
I went to pick up a package and went to the shopping center in 29 to get a few supplies.

Tuesday 06- 103 to 70
I did my stretches and brought the dogs inside because of the heat.
I worked on the shower that needs fixing.
I got a call from my doctor making an appointment for Thursday at 2pm.

Wednesday 07- 102 to 69
I did my stretches and I went by myself for a mile run without the dogs because of the heat.

Thursday 08- 100 to 66 with clouds.
Doctors/blood in Palm Springs.
I got home I shared a whole roasted chicken I bought at WalMart with the dogs, and then took them for a walk.

Friday 09- 98 to 68 with winds. (Day One)
I did my stretches, lifted weights, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for a spell.
I did some editing on my book late into the night and added another thousand words or so...

Saturday 10- 94 to 63 windy.
I did my stretches, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, and punched the heavybag for a spell.
I installed the 30 watt solar panel on the roof for the fan inside the house. It might be a little too much power for the fan. I’ll have to check to see about getting some kind of power controller.

Sunday 11- 87 to 59
I did my stretches, lifted weights, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Took the doggies for a nice long walk.

Monday 12- 85 to 60
I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, and punched the heavybag for a spell.
I did the poop patrol

Tuesday 13- 91 to 54
I did my stretches and exercised with the 20lb dumbbells.
I went to the post office for the third time to ask for my mail. I haven’t had any sent to my box since the mailbox fiasco of May 12th. They had put in new boxes and I had to show proof. Well I live right on the border between 29 Palms and Joshua Tree and they said I didn’t live in Joshua Tree and wouldn't give me a key and would hold my mail in some postal purgatory until I get my new box in 29 Palms. Well I was able to finally prove to them I lived in Joshua Tree and got the keys to my old mailbox, but I wasn't getting any mail.
This time I urged (pleaded) them to go check again. They finally found a bunch of mail, car registration, requests to fill out medical forms, and the certified letter I was waiting to receive that was mailed on May 12th. I still don’t think they found all my mail.
WalMart to get the oil changed on my truck, got my haircut, and did some shopping. I brought a whole roasted chicken home to share with the dogs and then took them for a walk.

Wednesday 14- 100 to 71
I did my stretches and I went by myself for a mile run without the dogs because of the heat.

I took the dogs for an evening walk.

Thursday 15- 105 to 71
I did my stretches and went by myself for a mile run without the dogs because of the heat.
A guy came to my door asking for water. I was skeptical at first because he didn’t look quite right; he had deep cuts on his shaved head that were stapled together and bruises on his face. I got him some water and asked what was he doing out here. I got to talking to him. Told me his story: last night around 1AM he was driving when he was run off the road off the road by two vehicles; one a Blazer, and the other a really slick looking 4X4 he really didn’t know the kind or I didn’t understand him. Then two men, both over 50, got out and beat the hell out of him. He had walked all the way to the Marine Base where they stitched him up. He was out on his son’s motorcycle today trying to find his truck and was waiting for his wife and son to pick him up. I made sure he was well hydrated and made him run cold water over his head to prevent heat stroke. His wife drove up in a Uhaul truck and I help his son put the bike in the back of the truck and then they drove off thanking me. He said he made a police report.
I took the dogs for an evening walk.
I worked on my book...

Friday 16- 106 to 78
I went to bed at 3am and then Cassie woke me up at 5am for her and Barney’s biscuit and I couldn’t get back to sleep. I spent that time editing my book and finally falling to sleep at 10:30am.
I did my stretches and worked out with the 20lb dumbbells.
I took the doggies for an evening jog just around sunset.

Saturday 17- 110 to 80
I did my stretches, yoga, exercised with the 20lb dumbbells, and jogged a mile without the dogs; Oh they wanted to go alright, but the ground was way too hot for the pads on their paws.
I edited and posted my May Journal for all the world to see... I don’t think many do.

Sunday 18- 105 to 75 (record high)
Kept the dogs in the house during the hottest part of the day.
I worked on my book.

Monday 19- 116 to 84 degrees (record high)
Kept the dogs in the house all day long. It was already 104 when I went out to feed them.
I worked on my book.

Tuesday 20- 117 to 82 degrees (record high)

I did my stretches.

I kept the dogs inside out of the heat all day only letting them out at night.

I went to my appointment in Yucca Valley to get a booster shot. I stopped by Starters to pick up some supplies.

I worked editing my book... sure be nice to be done with it and write another.

Wednesday 21- 116 to 76 (record high)

Again, I did my stretches and stayed in the house with the dogs, and editing my book.

Thursday 22- 116 to 83 (record high)

I did my stretches and stayed in the house with the dogs, and editing my book.

Friday 23- 115 to 85 (record high)

And again, I did my stretches and stayed in the house with the dogs, and editing my book.

Saturday 24- 116 to 84 with some evening clouds. (record high)

We had a mighty fantastic potluck last Saturday. About twelve of us braved the heat of the day to scarf down lots of yummy food leaving us much sedated in the end. It was nice to see two of our prestigious community board members attending our little group of denizens of the desert at the same time; President Kip Fjeld and Vice President David King. I had a nice discussion with Kip about his book group. The group has meetings at different residents every month and invites real authors (ones who make real money writing) who are willing to travel hundreds of miles to give readings and discuss their books in front of an audience. It was great to see Dyan Carol again. She was away for a spell on personal business and we all gave her hugs welcoming her back. I cannot even begin to tell you how good the grub was. There was enough leftover for seconds and take home for everyone. I especially loved the scalloped potatoes with sharp cheddar cheese baked right to perfection.

Sunday 25-  113 to 82 (record high)

And again, I did my stretches and stayed in the house with the dogs, and editing my book.

It's been especially hard on the animals. I have a young coyote hiding under my trailer outside the fence. I never feed them, but this time I felt really sorry for the little guy/gal I put out a 5 gallon bucket of water for it and a dog biscuit.

Monday 26- 110 to 77 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells and stayed in the house with the dogs, and editing my book and finished the first edit pass.

I reorder my medication and they’ll FedEx it to me

Tuesday 27- 108 to 82 (finally no record heat!)

I did my stretches.

Waited for Fedex to arrive with my package with my meds because I didn’t want them sitting outside in this heat; he came at 4pm.

Called Amazon and told them I never received the shipping label. I talked their ears off telling them how bad OnTrac delivery service is. They said they’d UPS me the label and hand it off to the UPS person.

Wednesday 28- 106 to 75

I did my stretches and went to WalMart to get some much needed supplies to last over the long holiday weekend.

Thursday 29- 108 to 77

I did my stretches, lifted weights, went for a one mile jog by myself; just way too hot for the doggies, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for a short spell.

Friday30- 103 to 76

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lb dumbbell, and went for a one mile jog by myself.

*************** Stuff I wrote this Month **************

Darken shadows, traveled swiftly, away from full moonrise. Simple pleasures, friends and family, stolen for all time. Thriving slowly, drift through pastures, ample warnings made. Weaving tendrils, fast and growing, feast upon my brain. Gifts of pleasure, lust and glory, lazy I must be. To float upon a sea of treasures, blind to what be there to see.
My sweet and slender, faithful mistress, gently loving me. Always caring, never boring, whose soft and tender, ample bosom I rest... waiting.
~RD

My late night ramblings...
I am so blessed to have walked this earth at a time of great change, creative people, and wonderful music. As a child I watched the first satellite fly over my backyard. I’ve seen the surface of other worlds from unmanned spacecraft and humans walk on the face of the Moon. I’ve seen inhuman acts and their consequences, I’ve also seen acts of extraordinary kindness go unnoticed. I experienced technology, science, and manufacturing murge closer creating unimaginable smaller products that ubiquitously invade our lives, but we can’t do without. I’ve seen friends too young pass on, old folks too dang stubborn to go do the same (I hope to fall into this category), and some evil ones who I believe we as a world would be better off if they weren’t never born. I would not trade my life to have been born in some other era, but I’d sure like to stick around for a while longer to see what happens next.

May 2017

May 2017

Monday 01- 90 to 57

I did my stretches, yoga, and took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog.

Tuesday 02- 94 to 69

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

Wednesday 03- 97 to 70

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

Thursday 04- 98 to 70

I did my stretches. I didn’t feel well this morning.

I started and finished chapter 14

Friday 05- 99 to 73

I did my stretches. I am still not feeling well this morning. Dogs are pissed I haven’t taken them for a walk in two days now.

I began and almost finished chapter 15.

Saturday 06- 83 to 48 very windy.

I did my stretches and exercised with the 20lb weights.

I finished chapter 15 and started 16... I’m not sure but I think this is the last chapter. Then I go back and add and edit to it and it should be around 50 thousand words.

Sunday 07- 62 to 45

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk just before it began to rain. I worked in the yard

Monday 08- 78 to 57

I did my stretches and walked the dogs. Barney slipped his collar and got away again. I called out to him, but he just ran off. He’s done this before. I walked back and put Cassie in the dog run and left the front gate opened. Barney came back an hour later and I gave him a treat just like I do with Cassie when she escapes.

Tuesday 09- 80 to 58

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lb dumbbells, and took Cassie for a jog. I didn’t take Barney, he is being disciplined because he ran off on me yesterday on our walk.

Wednesday 10- 82 to 56

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

Seimi came by to chat for a spell.

I worked on my book trying to get somewheres around 50 thousand words... need 15 thousand more.

Thursday 11- 89 to 56

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I worked more on the book.

Took the dogs for an evening walk.

Friday 12-  92 to 56

I did my stretches and went to WalMart, but first I went to get my mail at my mailbox on Border and it wes replaced with a new array of post boxes and my key didn’t work for my new box. I stopped the mail person and they said just for me to present my id at the post office and the wll give me a new key. Well to make a long story to the point the people at the JT post office said that I was live in 29 and shouldn’t have a post box there. I said but I’ve had my box there for almost 20 years. I told them I live on the border of 29 and JT, but that didn’t make a difference to the. I will find pieces of more information to present on Monday when I go to collect my mail at the post office that the mail carrier will pick up Saturday and bring to the JT office. Now I might have to change all my credit cards and bank statements to reflect the change... gosh, wait until Christmas time. We’ll see what happens on Monday. I just hope the cold hearted office folks at the office don’t give away my box until I can get this squared away...

Saturday 13- 90 to 56

I did my stretches and went to the poetry reading in JT only to find out the evert is to be tomorrow, Sunday, after driving all the way down there today, Saturday :(
I made a mistake... Subconsciously, but a mistake all the same... It never crossed my mind the event would be held on Mother's Day.
So I may or may not be going there tomorrow. My mistake. This will be my first year I won't be sending out a Mother's Day card, or a Father's Day card later in June.

Sunday 14- 84 to 53 and windy.

I did my stretches, put the dogs in their pen and went to the poetry reading where I was invited to read my poetry along with others who had their poems in issue#5 of Cholla Needles book at Space Cowboy Books in Joshua Tree. I, for the first time ever (except once in 1970 that got me kicked out a speech communication class in college) stood up in front of a bunch of people to read my poems...I even read the one from 1970 ;) I was surprised by how many folks came to listen to poetry... so now I am in Cholla Needles issue 2 and 5.

Monday 15- 73 to 51

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk. I am still not doing any weightlifting and the wind is too strong to go for a jog with the dogs.

I found my property tax statement and my water bill from the JTWD both stating my property in in Joshua Tree. I drove down to the post office and presented them both to the gal there incharge. She said, “You do live right on the border of Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree,” and handed me my mailbox keys. I profusely thanked her, because now I won’t have to change my address on my driver's license... among other things you can imagine. I asked about my mail and was told the driver went to collect it all today and she would tell the driver tonight to return the mail to the my mailbox tomorrow.

Tuesday 16- 79 to 47 degrees and windy.

Gotta get up early and go for a scan in Palm Springs. I took the dogs for a quick walk first before I left and made sure they had water in their dog pen where they will await my return. I would’ve preferred to let them run free in the yard, but Barney tries to dig out if I do.

I always get lost in Palm Springs so I left and arrived there an hour and forty-five minutes early just in case. I had to fast so I was really hungry and they had food show on the TV in the waiting room; kinda a bummer. Driving back home I stopped at the Sizzler for their salad bar and ate my fill. Tips

I walked the dogs before I took a long nap.

Wednesday 17- 79 to 53 and very windy.

I did my stretches, swept the floors inside the house, did the poop patrol, messed with my ASUS Tablet that wouldn’t turn on. Had to take it apart, disconnect the battery and reconnect it, and then it kinda worked but another problem cropped up and I finally just threw it in the trash.

Thursday 18- 81 to 57 with wind.

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, hit the heavybag, and took the dogs for a mile jog.

Changed out the two old failing 6 volt deep cycle batteries for the new ones I bought a two months ago. I had the new ones ready when I used every ounce of energy of the old ones when they gave up the ghost.

Now I am having problems with my Lenovo Yoga Tablet yt3-850f “temperature too high will shut down” it says and shuts right down... of course I tried putting it in the freezer for half an hour and that didn’t work... I think something is wrong with the battery because it says 65030% charged not 100%... so after doing a complete factory reset that didn’t solve the problem, I put it in a test mode that will drain out the battery completely and I’ll find out tomorrow if it fixes the problem when I put a charge to it and reboot. If this doesn’t work... into the trash it goes after I tear it apart to see its innards.

Friday 19- 83 to 49 with wind.

I got up and took the dogs for a walk and then went right to work fixin my Mini Cooper needs a new timing chain tensioner replacement. To get to the dang thing I had to disassemble the air cleaner compartment, the throttle mechanism, and a bunch of minor things not mentioned in the repair manual; hidden bolts and the like.

While I was doing that I was also doing a few updates for a computer I am giving away to my friend’s son. He’s going to use it for school work, I hope he likes it. I also completed the poop patrol I started last Wednesday before the winds became too strong and made me stop.

Saturday 20- 90 to 67

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, hit the heavybag, and took the dogs for a mile run.
I did my laundry and hung it all out to dry. I finished my laptop I’m giving to my friend’s son and will have it all packed up and ready to go the next time I go to the post office.

I am still cleaning up the yard and tossing stuff in the dumpster... an accumulation of 20 years of friends with good intentions bringing over stuff I don’t need, but they think I need... what I need now is to get rid of it all.

Sunday 21- 97 to 62

I did my stretches, yoga, and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I did another load of laundry... sure makes the job a lot easier having a new washer.

I cleaned up some more of the yard stacking old lumber neatly ready to cut into firewood.

I did some editing of my book “Upon Ashen Roads”, but just got too tired and quit early.

Monday 22- 100 to 73

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, hit the heavybag, and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I started to work on my 2012 Zuma 50f scooter that fails to start. Now that I have the manual I hope to make some progress.

When not working on the scooter I was cleaning the yard. Still plenty of work to do there. Pretty soon I will start going through clothes I don’t wear and give them away.

I got really upset about the terrorist blast in Manchester at a concert full of teenage children and their mothers.

Tuesday 23- 102 to 70

I did my stretches... too hot to go take the dogs for a run.

I spent most of the day writing a poem called “Missing in Manchester: Souls of Sweet Children”

Wednesday 24- 102 to 70 with clouds and wind in the evening hours.

I did my stretches.

Thursday 25- 90 to 68 with winds.

Doctor’s appointment at 3pm in Palm Springs.

Friday 26- 89 to 62

Needed to get more blood drawn and tested.

Saturday 27- 91 to 58

I did my stretches.

Potluck and we all celebrated Cal Mayers’ Birthday with him by singing him happy birthday to you.

Sunday 28- 97 to 71

I did my stretches and took the dogs out for a walk.

Monday 29- 100 and 69 degrees.

Not feeling very well.

Tuesday 30- 98 to 70

I am still not feeling very well.

I felt better around evening and took the dogs for a mile jog, core trainer, weight bench, and hit the heavybag for a short spell.

Wednesday 31- 93 to 65 and a bit overcast.

I did my stretches.

I went went to Subway and then did some shopping before going to the doctor’s to get a shot.

I shared some chicken hindquarters with the dogs before taking them for a mile jog.

*************** Stuff I wrote this Month **************

Lie still the night, burn bright the stars, overbearing sadness crept beneath a sea of darkness, a spark of love relieved this pain, but fading thoughts ceased to be no longer ~RD

Missing in Manchester: Souls of Sweet Children

Joy and merriment ended its quest, with a device strapped to some loser’s chest. Lurking outside waiting for a concert’s completion, fed by lies and untruths of a religious deception, to rip the innocence of young girls from our hearts and our minds, and remind us of evils of a self-righteous kind.
Drowning us in sorrows of bright futures gone, are bedrooms adorned in pink bows and ribbons with patched teddy bears, once full but now empty, their essence moved on.
In their love and compassion for life will always remain, a beacon to guide us on journeys not made. Souls of sweet children passed gently through the night, as parents searched pleading not my child be taken, not my child tonight.
~RD

Life is like a popsicle... before you know it all you’re left with is the dry stick.

~RD

Somehow black and white photos brings out the colors of our imagination...
~RD

Blistered lips, tattooed parchment skin peeling, lusting for just a drop; the ants will finish what the desert began. ~RD

At times we reflect upon life and our journeys around the Sun. Standing on this seemingly sturdy ground beneath our feet, yet just a tiny speck of water and dust of a thin shell, like that of slag floating around on molten iron. We either can stand in awe looking out to the vastness of the universe and absorb its oneness and peaceful happiness, or detach ourselves from its moment to become lost with ignorance in the realms of infinity.

April 2017

April 2017

Saturday 01- 77 to 54 very nice with a bit of breeze.

Tanner sign- Doug poem & guitar

Sunday 02- 84 to 58

I did my stretches, yoga, core trainer, took the dogs for a mile jog, and punched the heavybag.

I cleaned up the yard some and did the dreaded poop patrol; most of the poop was buried in the sand by the high winds we’ve had the past week. I had to hunt them down and dig them up.

Just finished doing my Federal and State Taxes... I am glad that's over and done with! I felt like stuffing all the forms and that incomprehensible 8962 into a envelope and sending it off to the IRS with a note: You made up all this complicated jargon and rules, here you go figure it out and let me know how much I owe.

Monday 03- 88 to 51 and windy again

I did my stretches.

Tuesday 04- 77 to 54

I did my stretches, exercises with the 20lb dumbbells, took the dogs for a mile jog, and punched the heavybag for a spell.

FedEx delivered my 20 watt solar panel I opened it up and found it was shattered.

Wednesday 05- 80 to 50

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a nice walk morning and evening walk.

I emailed the business that sold me the broken solar panel. Alex said that he will replace my broken 20 watt panel with a 30 watt panel and will ship it right away.

Thursday 06- 87 to 52

I did my stretches and took the doggies for a mile and a half jog.

Late in the evening I had just starting writing chapter 12 of "Upon Ashen Roads" when I got distracted by our missile strike against Syria... strange how I am writing fiction of that area right now... I'll try and continue chapter 12 on Friday night....

Friday 07- 81 to 57 overcast.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.

I am still distracted by the strike against Syria to write.

Saturday 08- very windy 73 to 47 degrees.

I did my stretches.

I went to the "Full Moon Desert Acoustic and Poetry" out in the windy desert tonight and met some really nice people and had a wonderful time.

Sunday 09- 72 to 48 still windy, but not as bad as yesterday.

I think I got sick from the cold wind last night. I just stayed inside. I took an antihistamine that knocked me out.

I did some writing on chapter 12 but still distracted by events in the world and only gotten 186 words written.

Monday 10- 68 to 45

Still sick and stayed inside. I did my stretches and messed around with my computers.

I went to the post office in 29 to pick up the 30 watt solar panel sent to me as a replacement for the 20 watt panel that had shattered in transit to my home. I also stopped at Stater Bros to pick up a few items I couldn’t get at WalMart the other day.

Took the doggies for an evening walk.

Saturday 15- 81 to 58

I stopped taking the antihistamine pills last night. The pills make me very tired and lazy the next day. I think they may be worse than the allergy symptoms that I experience. I  did my stretches, yoga, took the dogs for a mile jog, and punched the heavybag for a long spell.

I finally cleaned the kitchen counter and stove very good. I have neglected most cleaning in the house lately.

Sunday 16- 88 to 60

I did my stretches and took the dogs on a mile jog.

I am still feeling like crap because of my allergies. Don’t really feel like doing anything, plus my Doctor said two visits ago that I shouldn’t lift any weights for awhile because of my pain in my wrist, so I cut weightlifting down to maybe two or three times a week. I hope it starts getting better soon.

Monday 17- windy

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I finished chapter 12 after a long delay. I wrote over two thousands words.

Tuesday 18- windy still.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I got interested on Hawaii. Just sell everything and move there with the dogs. I spent a bunch of hours online looking at property. I even contacted a realtor about one. Just a dream right now and there ain’t nothing holding me here in the desert anymore. All my good friends I had here have gone on to a different dimensional plane of existence than I.

Wednesday 19-  windy

I did my stretches and took the dogs for an evening mile walk.

Played around with my computers. I have so many I think I’ll start giving them away or maybe sell them on ebay.

Wrote over a thousand words in chapter 13 finally. I now know how the book is going to end.

Saturday 22- 88 to 63

I did my stretches, worked out with the 10lb weights, and took the doggies for a mile jog.

I did this and that and other things  today that needed being done that I’ve haven’t done but needed to do, eventually.

Took the dogs for a nice evening walk. Everything is in bloom now and Cassie and Barney are sniffen at all the flowers.

I finished chapter 13.

Sunday 23- 91 to 60 and windy.

stretches

Wednesday 26- 86 to 53 and windy.

Thursday 27- 82 to 62 very windy again... kinda getting tired of all the wind.

I did my stretches, took the doggies for a mile jog.

Seime came by for me to help him on his laptop because the sound wasn’t working; I fixed it for him,

Friday 28- 76 to 52 with wind...

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

Saturday 29- 76 to 51 with lite wind

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.

I cooked up a pot of rice, gathered the cookies I bought and headed down to the community center for our monthly potluck. There were about twenty hungry denizens of the desert there waiting to dig into the feast set before them on the table. There was Yvonne’s yummy banana pudding; Dorothy's delicious Mexican casserole, Cal’s healthy fruit platter; someone made a chocolate cake that magically disappeared; Chris and Mary’s fried chicken and pea salad; cookies from Joyce and John Lee, who journeyed from Santa Ana to enjoy the wonders of our desert. We have no music or entertainment of any sort except the pleasant chattering of desert folks yammering on and on about this and that and other important things pertaining to their lives. It’s a wondrous feeling to be among them.

Sunday 30- 87 to 62 sunny day.

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, punched the heavybag, and took the doggies for a mile jog.

The cord that binds has been tied off and cut, but forever remains a link to a mother’s heart.

At this moment in history the news media thrives on opinions of reactionaries, not on a sense for fairness or any impartial coherent reporting. For good or bad we alter the world by just being alive and trying to rationalize and internalize the information we acquire. How we change the future is up to us by the seeds we sow. Plant the seed of knowledge and watch us grow. Plant the seeds of deception to watch the world wither and die.

Life is not to be wasted on mundane and irrelevant demands put upon you by others. Treat life as a wondrous journey not a racetrack to the end. Be awed, be creative, be inspired and inspire others, ask questions and question everything, love and be loved along the way to journey's end.

Come live in the desert with me and enjoy the beauty, silence, and grandeur of endless horizons. It's simply awesome to behold. Then ponder as you gaze out into the desert’s sparse habitat how so much can survive with so little. Did you know the kangaroo rat survives without drinking water?

March 2017

March 2017

Wednesday 01- 62 to 42 sunny, but cool.

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, punched the heavybag for a spell and jogged a mile with the dogs. I am still having pain in my right wrist and am keeping the weights lite.

Thursday 02- 68 to 45

Went to my doctor’s appointment. He wants me to take another lab test. I told him about the pain in my arm and wrist and he said to stop lifting weights for a while to see if it gets better,  Got some supplies at Stater Bros.

Friday 03- 74 to 48 degrees and clear.

I did my stretches and went on a mile jog with the doggies.

I started writing chapter 4 of my book.

Saturday 04- 71 to 45 windy.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk because of the high winds. I also started to feel my allergies kicking in.

I finished chapter 4 of my book.

Sunday 05- 66 to 46 very windy

I did my stretches and just kinda stayed inside with the dogs because of the wind plus my allergies hit me hard.

Monday 06- 58 to 37

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog. Still suffering from my allergies.

I had to drive back down to the doctor’s office to pick up a kit I need to take with me to the lab.

Tuesday 07- 68 to 70

Went to the lab in Yucca to have blood work done. I then went to the Sizzler alone missing Sherry who used to go there with me for linder we called it (lunch/dinner). I then went to Home Depot to gather 20 more paver for the laundry room and also purchased a Sawzall to cut wood.

I started writing chapter 5.

Wednesday 08- 75 to 53

Worked laying down the rest of the pavers.

I got a call from Marguerite telling me our Aunt Audrey had passed peacefully this morning at 5:30 AM and Marguerite and Justin were there by her side. I called family members to let them know of her passing.

Thursday 09-

I did my stretches, but that’s about all because my allergies hit me hard.

Wrote a little more of chapter 5.

Friday 10- 82 to 53 and hazy.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and took the dogs for a walk.

I continued to work on my book and finished chapter 5.

Saturday 11- 84 to 59

I did my stretches, exercised on the weight bench and punched the heavybag for a short spell.

I wasted the day on a friend who turned Troll on my FaceBook page ranting about my "List of Wants" I tried to calm him down when he started trolling to my cousin and other friends. Nothing I tried worked and he just grew worse. I told him not to use foul language on my Timeline and he unfriended me. He and his rantings and ravings are now gone and forgotten. I knew him in the 70s as an acquaintance. Shame it ended this way, but it was his decision and a wasted time for me when I could have been writing chapter 6.

Sunday 12- 86 to 59 clear and sunny skies.

I did my stretches, exercised with lite 5lb dumbbells, and took the doggies on a mile jog.

Monday 13- 87 to 57 a bit hazy.

Tuesday 14- 91 to 61

I did my stretches, worked out on the weight bench and punched the heavybag for a short spell.

I went to Stater Bros to pick up some supplies I needed and came right back home.

I took the dogs for an evening walk and then worked on and finished chapter 6 of my book.

Wednesday 15- 88 to 61 clear skies.

I stayed up very late writing to finish chapter 6 and slept in really late and got up around noon. My dogs were hungry and weren't none too happy about that. I did do my stretches. I spent over an hour on the phone with Home Depot and then T-Mobile getting things set straight about my accounts.

I saved the day when I took the dogs for a jog in the evening when it was cooler and then planted some cacti and watered the plants.

I will start chapter 7 tonight.

Thursday 16- 88 to 60 degrees.

I had a dream about that girl again last night. She isn’t a young girl any longer, just a year or two younger than me, but I remember her as she was in her youth and beauty. In my dream I had taken her out to dinner at an outside cafe. I excused myself from the table to wash my hands in the restroom while she sat there at the table with a bright smile all dressed up and looking very pretty. There was a couch there in the restroom and I laid myself down to rest for a second. Next thing I know someone was pounding on the door yelling, “Get up, get up! You’ve been in there for hours.”

I rose quickly and went outside to find my girlfriend sitting in a yellow taxi about ready to drive away. Just then, her father drove up (played by Ed Asner) and told me how dare I abandon his lovely daughter. Dumbstruck, I stood there as she stepped out of the taxi and went to her father’s car and sat inside, her father shut the car door on her side and drove off. The taxi driver came up and asked for a tip, and then the waiter came and handed me a bill for $119 and said the cafe doesn’t take credit cards. (I’ve included this dream into my book)

I did my stretches, took the doggies on a mile jog, I only exercises that didn’t hurt my wrist: exercised on the weight bench, did pullups on with the core trainer punched the heavybag for a spell.

Friday 17- 91 to 61 a little hazy.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.

I watered the plants

I continued to write and finish Chapter 8.

Saturday 18- 89 to 59.

I did my stretches, took the dogs on a mile jog, and hit the heavy bag.

Today they are taking my father and stepmother’s ashes out to sea. My sister Leeanne was there with her family, along with others. My father and stepmother made it very clear it was their wish we not have any kind of ceremony. My sister Lynn and I respected their wishes, but we also respect and understand those who didn’t and their need for closure.

Sunday 19- 91 to 61 clear

I did my stretches.

I did the poop patrol of the yard.

I wrote and finished chapter 9.

Monday 20- 87 to 63 hazy

I did my stretches, exercised with 20lb dumbbells, and jogged a mile with the dogs.

I started chapter 10.

Tuesday 21- 81 to 57 hazy

I did my stretches and yoga.

I worked out in the yard for a spell and watered the plants.

Wednesday 22- 71 to 51 very windy.

I did my stretches, worked out on the weight bench, core trainer, and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I worked on chapter 10 and finished it, now working on chapter 11.

Thursday 23- 73 to 49 still a bit windy.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a nice walk.

I continued to work on Chapter 11...

Friday 24- 74 to 50 with wind.

Doc’s for shots, shopping. I bought two new 6 volt deep cycle batteries... the old ones are dying quickly.

Saturday 25- windy

Potluck was pretty nice with around fifteen starving folks showing up at our community doors to share and eat what was being shared. It was Dyan’s birthday so we all stood up to sing her Happy Birthday while she sat there in her seat being embarrassed by all the attention. She received many gifts and many hugs from her friends. Chris and Mary brought fried chicken and hot dogs with all the fixins. Dorothy and Dyan cooked all day over a hot oven to bring us all carrot cake, turkey stuffing, braised cabbage, and a yummy casserole. David King concocted a pear walnut thingy.  John Lee brought us two gallons of tea to swallow it all down with. There was some yammering going on about this that and other things that ain’t fit to print here, but we all had a wonderful time doing it.

Sunday 26- windy

I did my stretches.

Monday 27- 78 to 48 very windy.

I did my stretches, weight bench, punched the heavybag, and took the dogs out for a mile run.

Tuesday 28- 71 to 52 and still a bit windy.

I did my stretches, yoga, punched the heavybag, and took the doggies for a nice jog.

I wrote a bit of chapter 11...

Wednesday 29- 80 to 53 degrees and still windy.

I did my stretches, but stayed inside because of the wind and my dang allergies.

Thursday 30- 82 to 48 and really windy!

I did my stretches.

I drove to the post office to pick up a package containing a shop manual for my Zuma F50. I then went to Staters to get some supplies.

Friday 31- 70 to 48 finally with no wind!

I did my stretches, took the dogs for a walk, and spent the rest of the day working online on my taxes. The automatic tax thingy sent back my Fed return 7 times because of form 8962, what a mess and unintelligible are the instructions for that form. I also did Calif State without a problem.

My Wants:

I want a world free from hunger
where no one goes hungry because they are poor
I want a free educational system
where students aren’t drowning in debt
I want good healthcare for the impoverished
that never denies or turns them away
I want an end to belief systems
pointing out differences of color gender and race
I want a society based on merit and creativity
instead of money and greed
I want an end to countries dependent on bullets and bombs
killing man woman and child
I want a new paradigm without money
sucking up resources and spitting out waste
I want everyone safe on this little planet
that spins happily around this vastness of space
I want all of these and I’ll probably want more
until there’s no need for want anymore

though yonder chamber glistens boldly
beckons ye with dance, drink and merriment.

February 2017

February 2017

Wednesday 01- 68 to 47 hazy.

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, punched the heavybag for a spell and jogged a mile with the dogs.

I cut up a whole bunch of wood for the wood stove. I used the new 2 stroke 1000 watt generator and it cut right through the old 2X4s without any problem; that kinda surprised me.

I did the poop patrol and collected a whole bunch of...

I took the dogs for a walk and listened to the rest of the lecture 2 on climate.

I went online to find that all four books I ordered were either inside or outside at my mailbox on Lear. I jumped in the truck and drove down there right away just incase they were sitting outside... thankfully the mail person was able to get them all inside: two books on latin, one on microscopy, and a new and better keyboard that lights up for my Microsoft Surface RT.

Thursday 02- 65 to 47 hazy.

I did my stretches, yoga.

I went to the post office to pick up my Alphasmart NEO2 mobile word processor I ordered on Ebay.

I started listening to lecture 3 while I walked a mile with the dogs.

Friday 03- 70 to 46 degrees and clear.

Saturday 04- 66 to 46

Sunday 05- 63 to 41

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, punched the heavybag for a spell and jogged a mile with the dogs.

I exercised with the 10lb dumbbells and took the dogs for a walk while I listened to lecture 4 in the climate series, but because of their rowdy misbehaving and continuous barking I shortly had to march the dogs right back and continue walking on my own.

Monday 06- 64 to 53 a very sad day for me and my family.

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lbs dumbbells and took the doggies on a mile jog.

I called my Dad to see how he was doing only to find he passed away fifteen minutes earlier. I was on the phone to family and friends for all day.

Tuesday 07- 72 to 53 with a few cloud and wind.

I did my stretches and mope around the house all day and called family.

Wednesday 08- 78 to 54

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lbs dumbbells and took the doggies on a mile jog.

I finally got out there and dug a hole for the clothes hanger thingy that looks like an umbrella when you unfold it. I had to mix cement for the post holder that obviously the umbrella post slips into.

Barney was frantically barking and I went outside to see what was up; Cassie had somehow gotten herself on the other side of the gate. I walk the perimeter of the fence and found where she had made it over the fence by pulling it down from the iron fence posts. I did a quick fix of it and will by more fence ties tomorrow.

Thursday 09-

I did my stretches.

I went to WalMart to get supplies and a haircut. Then on to Home Depot to get 20 more pavers for my laundry room and some wire ties for the fence where Cassie got out.

I got home and shared the roasted chicken with Cassie and Barney, and then we all went for a short walk.

I talked with my cousin Marguerite catching up on things and life in general.

Friday 10- 80 to 58

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lbs dumbbells and took the doggies on a mile jog.

I unloaded the pavers from the truck and laid and positioned them on the ground. That’s a whole lot of work.

Did the Poop Patrol of the yard... I think I need to cut down on the amount of food I feed them doggies.

Saturday 11- 66 to 52 degrees with clouds.

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, and punched the heavybag.

I worked in the yard in the back gathering old junk and tossing it into the dumpster.

I took the dogs out for a short walk.

Sunday 12- 66 to 49 and cloudy.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, punched the heavybag for three minutes, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and rode my electric pedal assisted bike for 3 miles. I did all them exercises that I do in the morning. On my ride with the bike I met Fonsel who bought and is weekending at the home of my old neighbor who played the Australian musical instruments didgeridoo and bullroarer at night and built a fortress for his cat.

This will be my first Sunday in many years that I didn’t call my Dad.

I went around the with silicone sealer filling in some holes where water leaked inside the house and laundry room.

I talked with my sister Lynn for a long spell about our family.

Monday 13- 69 to 51

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, punched the heavybag for three minutes, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and rode my electric pedal assisted bike for 3 miles. Again I did all them exercises that I ever do.

Tuesday 14- 70 to 48

I did my stretches.

I went to Yucca Valley to checkout a car and bought it.

Wednesday 15- 71 to 49

I did my stretches

I went back down to Yucca Valley to pick up car I bought. The old Cougar was falling to pieces bit by bit.

Thursday 16- 72 to 50

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, punched the heavybag for three minutes, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and rode my electric pedal assisted bike for 3 miles. Met my neighbor Trent.

Friday 17- 65 to 45 windy and a bit of rain

I did my stretches, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog with the doggies, and exercised with the 20lb dumbbells.

Dug a deeper trench around the back to drain rainwater from the big storm coming our way.

I called AAA to insure the Mini Cooper and also uninsured the scooter that’s not working now.

Saturday 18- 51 to 46 with drizzles and moderate rain.

Brian and Naomi Kayla and Courtney came by for a quick visit.

Sunday 19- 56 to 43 with early morning drizzles and then a few cloud.

Dogs escaped, mend fence, mile run, lecture 5.... Busy day.

Monday 20- 70 to 49

I did my stretches, core trainer, took the dogs on a mile jog, exercised on the weight bench, punched the heavy back for about three minutes, rode the bike, and did my yoga.

Struggled with the little 2cycle generator washing close in the side loading washer; not enough power to run it. I finally got the larger Honda Generator running and was able to finish getting the washer to cycle all the way through to the end.

I took the dogs for an evening walk and listened to lecture 6 the last one on the Cambridge University’s lecture series on Adaptation to Climate Change.

Did some reading of my text books:

I started writing again and added to “On Ashen Roads” and getting familiar again with the first chapter.

Tuesday 21- 72 to 47

Wrist hurts decided not to do exercises today. I cleaned yard instead and threw a bunch of stuff I don’t need anymore and useless to anyone else into the dumpster.

I got my delivery of the Haynes Repair Manual for the Mini Cooper.

Wednesday 22- 66 to 39 very windy with gusts past 40 MPH

I did my stretches. Still my wrist hurts.

I had to go up on the roof to repair a few holes that once held a solar panel and are not causing a leak into the house.

I did the dreaded Poop Patrol.

Thursday 23- 52 to 34 and still windy.

I did my stretches.

I went to town and bought more 20 more pavers for the laundry room.

Friday 24- 57 to 36

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.

I laid down all the pavers and almost have the whole laundry room floor covered with them. I probably need about ten or so more to finish it off.

Saturday 25-

At our potluck we had almost 20 hungry souls showing up to feast upon the grub we brought to share. Our theme this month was pink and red to celebrate Washington's birthday and Valentine’s Day. Birthday gift bags were given out to those folks whose birthdays fell in December, January and February... we gotten a little behind on the bag thingy. The list of food that was lovingly donated is just too long to include here. It was mighty good grub to be sure; me and Cal was shoveling it in like coal into one of them old steam locomotives going up a steep grade. So, we’ll just thank those who contributed their fine cuisine: Mary and Chris including their three relatives from Santa Ana, Dyan and Dorothy and son John, Cal, and Bruce. Everyone donated a few bucks to help offset the cost of electricity and the little nicknacks Mary provides. Everyone was yammering about this and that, but mostly about the road vote. I explained it was a good thing to vote yes and raise it up to $60 a year instead of keeping it at the $20 we been paying over the last two decades or more. I also told the folks who rent to tell the owners of the property to vote yes on the ballot and mail it in.

I continued to write chapter two of “Upon Ashen Roads” and I think I finished the chapter.

Sunday 26- 59 to 43 with clouds with a bit of rain.

I did my stretches, used lite weights on the weight bench; my wrist still hurts, punched the heavybag for a minute, and took the doggies for a mile jog.

Monday 27- 55 to 42 with rain.

I did my stretches.

I worked writing chapter three of “Upon Ashen Roads”.

Tuesday 28- 62 to 39 with a bit of cold wind.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.

I worked writing and finished chapter three of “Upon Ashen Roads”.

Hollywood can make dreams, but falls short on reality.

When folks come out to the desert for the first time and can really see our dark night skies without all the light pollution, they always seem to ask, "What is that cloud going across the sky?" Just the words “What is that cloud” tells me they know it’s something other than a cloud.
"Why that’s the Milky Way," I reply and then I get into my astronomy mode to answer their questions and point out all kinds of interesting facts and a few constellations I know.
Kinda makes me wonder about some of those who live in the cities who have never experienced firsthand the vastness of the universe and hardly ever look up in awe towards the night sky.

You are my soul

You are my life

You are why I wake in the morning

You are why I sleep peacefully at night

You are the one

You are the only

Because you are the one I Love

Love is our tapestry, displayed from walls for all to see. Words alone cannot express our love, but a blessing from above.

Threadbare through the ages of life’s adventures, struggles and pain, these tattered threads we shall mend, this tapestry woven with love will never end.

~RD

Love is like a waterfall
that flows over mountains tall
gathering strength
it rushes to the sea
to wash upon distant shores
by windward breeze
of faraway lands
to live as one
no longer just a me
this love I truly seek of thee
To cast away all sorrows and pain
and spread the burden
share any shame
To know someone deeply
desiring only the best
To enjoy only harmony, trust, comfort and love
as we lay together at peace and at rest

January 2017

January 2017

Sunday 01- 54 to 36 degrees with wind and rain.

I went into 2017 running down the hill in front of my house and then I went to bed.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I called a few friends and family to wish them a Happy New Year.

I started reading “365 Starry Nights” again. I had to really catch up towards the last part of the year on my reading because of all the distractions I had going on in and beyond my control. I really can’t say that the EMR class was a distraction because it was something I wanted to do and I did it very well.

https://youtu.be/_5dYqIHVJz0

Monday 02- 49 to 39 and a bit overcast.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I read a bit from my history book: a chapter on Alexander the Great and his empire. And a bit from my geology book: about igneous rocks- Intrusive and Extrusive rock types. (the difference between them is pressure, viscosity, cooling and amount of certain elements)

I did my stretches, exercised with 10lb and 20lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with the dogs.

Tuesday 03- 48 to 39 degrees and overcast all day.

I did my stretches.

I drove to Staters Bros in Twentynine Palms to get some supplies and roasted chicken to share with the dogs.

I went to turn on my iPad and it wouldn’t start up. It has been on charge for a few weeks. I’ll look into it tomorrow.

Wednesday 04- 54 and 35 some clouds.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes. On our jog we met Roger driving in his old VW Bug along the way. It was getting hard for me to control the two anxious dogs and I tried to make them both sit as I talked to Roger. Then a large white diesel truck drove up making a lot of noise and my dogs started barking as the guy tried to ask us a question or other. Not being able to hear him he gave up and drove off. That’s when Barney got out of his collar and raced after the truck. I said goodbye to Roger and walked in Barney’s direction calling out his name, but the dog had disappeared. I figured me and Cassie would finish our jog and wait for Barney to show up at the house. After awhile I kinda got worried and grabbed Cassie and we both jumped into the truck and did not get more than 200 feet up the hill when I saw Barney running down to us. I got out of the trunk and down on my knees as he ran into my arms. I put the leash on and walked him to the dog cage and then went back and got Cassie and the truck.

I did a search on the web for “iPad will not start. The Apple site said to do this and that and I did what they said, but it still wont start: errors 4016, and then 4005, 09, 2009... I gave up for the day and will try running this on a different computer instead of on my MacBook.

Thursday 05- 64 to 41 with some clouds.

I did my stretches and took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog.

I drew a picture of a woman’s face; I’m trying to get back into my routine again.

Mess around the place fixin things. I put the mailbox out front back together after what the high winds a week ago or so did to it. I don’t get my mail there; it’s just a convenience for FedEx, UPS or folks to drop things off.

No joy on the iPad. I couldn’t get iTunes to load on my Win10 laptop, so I had to install it on one running Win 7. Still I got the same errors. I starting to think it isn’t worth my time anymore and will happily take a sledgehammer to the dang thing.

I took the dogs for an evening walk.

Friday 06- 52 to 36 and sunny.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I fiddled around the property doing little fix-it jobs and cleaning up a bit.

UPS delivered my Asus ChromeBook Flip. I unboxed it and used it the rest of the day instead of my MacBook Air. The reasons I wanted this is particular ChromeBook is it can run Android Apps, has a touch screen, 4GB of RAM, and turn into a tablet or viewed in tent mode.

I drew a face in a cave.

I read more of the history book about the beginnings of the Hellenistic era. I also read my geology book about shallow intrusive structures: volcanic neck, dikes and sills. Plutons: stock and batholiths forming from Diapirs.

I exercised with the 20lb weights and took Cassie for a night jog up the hill and back. Barney didn’t want to go out into the cold.

Saturday 07- 51 to 41 overcast.

I did my stretches. I think I’ve been feeling the effects of an allergy the past couple of days. My muscles have been sore and aching throughout my body.

I called family and friends throughout the day.

I drew a cat, a mouse and a vase.

I read more of the history book and finished the chapter about the Hellenistic era. The next chapter is the rise of the Romans which is very interesting to me. I also read my geology book about Bowen's Reaction Series. I then watched a whole bunch of Geology videos on Youtube, especially the ones about the Bowen’s Reaction Series. The authors of the book should have put Bowen’s Reaction Series at the beginning in the first chapter and make my understanding of the material to come in the chapters ahead more knowledgeable.

Sunday 08- 57 to 49 light clouds.

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lb weights, and went on a mile jog with Cassie and Barney. I am still kinda down with the allergy, but the antihistamine I took last night seems to help. I can’t take them in the daytime or else I’d just sleep.

I did the Poop Patrol of the yard, worked in the garden a bit.

I drew the Earth from space.

I got out my old Sony PDA to see if it still was working, and it was. I put her on charge and will mess with it tomorrow.

I spent some time cleaning up the computer room. It is so cluttered with electrical components and old laptops it is hard to get into the place without knocking something over.

Monday 09- 67 to 46 lightly overcast.

I did my stretches, exercised with the 10lb dumbbells and took my doggies for a mile run.

I drew a wave.

Been going through my papers and things, throwing away what’s not needed.

I also messed around with my old Sony PDA again loading up a few books onto it.

I worked on a few of my books making corrections and adding a few items here and there.

I read more of the history book and started the chapter about the rise of the Romans. I also read my geology book and finished up chapter 11on igneous rock and took the chapter test.

Tuesday 10- 60 to 40 a few clouds.

I did my stretches, but I am still feeling sick. I fed the dogs and then went to WalMart to get some supplies because there’s some bad weather predicted in a few days and I wanted to get it over just in case I get any sicker. When I got back home I shared the roasted chicken with the dogs...

I read more of the history book and finished the chapter about the rise of the Romans.

I did a little work on the my books, not much cause I feel ill.

Wednesday 11- 67 to 45 clear and sunny.

I fed the dogs and stayed in bed. I decided to just rest and stay inside until I get feeling better... it’s an allergy or flu or something else.

Thursday 12 to Saturday 14... sick in bed. Rained here and there. Bottom of the hill is flooded again and cars are getting stuck.

While I been in bed I started the (hopefully) last edit of “Desolation”

Sunday 15- 62 to 40 degrees and rained a little bit.

I’m finally feeling better and did my stretches and worked out with the 20lb dumbbells.

Monday 16- 59 to 37 cloudy.

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, punched the heavybag, and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I continued to work on the edit.

Tuesday 17- 61 to 39 degrees and nice sunny day outside.

I did my stretches and yoga.

I just worked on the book. I did take the dogs for a mile run in the evening.

Wednesday 18- 56 to 34 sunny.

I did my stretches.

I went to take the truck down to get it smogged, but the dang thing wouldn’t start. I tried to push the truck down to where I could jump it with the Cougar, but I couldn’t get it to budge. I then took the battery out of the Cougar and tried to jump it, but that didn’t work. So, I had to lift up my 80lb generator into my wheelbarrow that has a flat tire and work my way over to the truck so I could use a battery charger, but that was too weak of a charge... so I had to hook up another one that has a boost, but the clips were bad. I fixed it so they’d connect and finally got it started.

I got it smogged and it passed. I went and bought a hand dolly at Harbor Freight for moving the generator around... it took all that I had to lift the dang thing into the wheelbarrow... it even tipped over once and I had to lift it back in. I stopped at WalMart to get dog food and a few other supplies... roasted chicken for me and the dogs to share when I get home.

I continued to work on the edit of “Desolation”.

I decided to order a lighter 37lb 2 stroke 1000w generator from WalMart for about $100.

Thursday 19- 58 to 43 degrees.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I spent my time working on “Desolation” and I am up to chapter 11. Hopefully I can get this done and out of the way tomorrow so I can start on the other projects I want to do.

Friday 20- 56 to 43 with lots of rain.

I did my stretches and stayed inside.

The bottom of my hill is impossible because there is now a muddy lake there. A few folks got their cars stuck, but most turn around and go back.

I finished editing and now in communication with Bonnie who works on my covers trying to decided what we need and what goes where.

Saturday 21- 56 to 38 and sunny.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

Sunday 22- 55 to 44 more rain.

The muddy lake has grown larger.

Had to dig a ditch around the back of the laundry room to drain the water building up and wanting to flood the whole dang room.

Monday 23- 56 to 34 rained all day long.

I did my stretches and stayed inside

I did more work on the book; just a tweak here and there.

Tuesday 24- 50 to 34 a nice day finally.

I did my stretches and spent the day with my friend Shanna and her three wonderful kids who come down from Mesa Arizona to visit friends.

Wednesday 25- 50 to 32

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

went to visit Loren & Cecilia Anderson and their daughter and husband who are traveling around the country in their two large RV motorhomes. We sat and jawed for a spell, me getting to meet all their animals and one fantastic parrot that loved to laugh at me. We all went to the Sizzler to have a wonderful get together and chow down. On the way to eat I did a quick stop at WalMart to pick up the generator I ordered from them online.

Thursday 26- 51 to 35

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

Bonnie posted two versions of the cover on FaceBook to see which ones folks liked. It ended up a draw and she merged both into one really nice cover for “Desolation” and all I need to do is publish it.

Friday 27- 50 to 34 with lots of afternoon wind.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I did a poop patrol which made the doggie happy.

I unpacked and fired up the new 2 stroke 1000 watt generator... once I figured which way the gas “on/off” lever was supposed to be turned.

I got my new pressure cooker out and decided to try something simple so I went with spaghetti. I used about half the water that I normally would use guessing it would work okay. I did what the instructions said and wanted for it to start steaming through the top thingy, that’s when you start timing.  I was waiting for the dang thing to blow up like those that them terrorist use taking me and half the house down, but it didn’t. When I figured it was time to turn off the flame and release the pressure valve. This is when a whole lot of steam came out shooting out. I jumped back as it rose high into the air of my kitchen condensing and dripping off the ceiling onto everything on the counter. Once this boiler had ceased to blow steam like a locomotive run amuck, I twisted the top off to find my spaghetti was cooked to perfection.

Saturday 28- 65 to 44

Potluck! There were a bit over twenty hungry folks showing up Teresa and Ken Sitz- tomales; Jeff Dongvillo- potato salad; Chris- veggie spaghetti, garlic bread; Mary- happy meatball mac, apple pie, fried chicken; John Lee- potato and mac salad; Yvonne Frances- frosted cake; Paul Cullum- roasted chicken; David and Agnes King- three kinds of hot wings; Jonalee- cookies and ice cream; Pat Horwath- zucchini; Rand Kidman- deviled eggs; Bob Deloyd- rice and cookies; Chat Aelion Israel and his three nieces brought grapes...

Anyways, this here was from a list Mary copied and gave to me to decipher for you as I was leaving to go home... I did my best, but could barely read it and may/for sure contain misspelled names... There was a lot of yammering going on and I met Rand who has lived up here for 26 years for the first time! I wish you the best writing this one up or just leave it just as is ;)

Sunday 29- 69 to 44 sunny.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I drew

I swept the house real good... lots of dog hairs.

Went for a walk alone listening to a lecture 1 on Cambridge University’s lecture series on Adaptation to Climate Change.

I read chapter 12 of the Geology book, and also got caught up on my astronomy reading.

I published “Desolation”

Monday 30- 62 to 41 degrees and lite wind.

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lb dumbbells, and took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog.

Did something, but forgot :)

Went for a walk, but took the dogs along and I listening to a lecture 2 on climate.

Tuesday 31- 66 to 44 degrees and sunny.

I did my stretches.

I went to Walmart to pick up some supplies.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

I spent all my time editing and adding and editing over and over again my book “Desolation” and this is all the writing I did until I got the book done.

December 2016

December 2016

Thursday 01- 58 to 39 and windy.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.

I went to town to do some shopping. I stopped off at WalMart to get supplies, and then on to Home Depot to get 20 12x12” cement pavers to place down on the ground where I am putting the new washer; still not sure where it’s going yet. I also bought a parasol clothes hanger and a toolset; I seem to be missing a few sockets.

For being good doggies, me and the dogs ate the whole roasted chicken I purchased at WalMart, and then I took them for a nice little walk.

Friday 02- 53 to 37 and still really windy.

I did my stretches, yoga and took my dogs for a one mile jog.

Saturday 03- 58 to 42 degrees and windy, but not as much as the last two days.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, took me doggies for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Even though it was windy, I went to work patching the roof. I almost had it all done but the day grew dark.

Sunday 04- 62 to 43 degrees and no wind!

I did my stretches and me and my doggies went for a one mile jog.

I went back up onto the roof and finished doing the patch job. When I got done me and the dogs went for a nice walk.

Monday 05- 65 to 43 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, me doggies went for a one mile jog.

I got the Harley running and moved from the battery room to the garage whose roof I had patched the day before. This will give me more room to work on the bike and get it ready for spring. I began cleaning and moving stuff out of the battery room, but there was a whole lot of spiders and other crawling critters here and there so I decided to go to Home Depot to get some heavy duty bug spray. I also stopped off at WalMart since I was there and picked up some roasted chicken (among other stuff) to take home for me and the dogs to share. First thing I did was when I got home was spray down the battery room so I can start cleaning it out and laying down the cement pavers for the new washer.

Tuesday 06- 66 to 42 degrees.

I did my stretches and my doggies and I went for a one mile jog.

I started moving and placing the pavers in the battery room.

Me and the dogs went for a mile evening jog.

Wednesday 07- 55 to 41 degrees.

I did my stretches, yoga, and took me doggies for a one mile jog.

I worked moving all the rest of the pavers into the battery room.

I worked out with the 10lb dumbbells and took me doggies for a one mile jog.

Thursday 08- 60 to 43 degrees and clear.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, took me doggies for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I watered some of the plants that seemed to need watering and did some work around the yard. I cleaned out the wood stove that had gathered a bunch of ash already this season.

Me and the dogs went for a mile evening jog.

Friday 09- 60 to 41 and a bit overcast.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.

I went to town to get more cement pavers for the battery room floor. I also stopped to fuel up my truck and two 5 gallon gas containers.

Took the dogs for a walk when I got gone moving 15 of the 30 pavers to the battery room. Once I move and hookup the new washer I’ll rename it the laundry room.

Saturday 10- 73 to 42.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a walk.

Moved all the cement pavers off the truck.

"Biologist Kelly Herbinson will be on hand to talk about wild desert tortoises and her favorite; Ants. Local herbalist Peri Lee Pipkin will discuss the medicinal uses of native plants that grow in our area. I picked up a copy of her book “Medicinal Plants of Joshua Tree and Surrounding Areas”. MDLT Nursery Director Madena Asbell will have native plants for sale."

I didn’t buy any plants because it’s winter, maybe during the spring I will.

"MDLT Conservation Director Frazier Haney will be in the house with interactive maps to discuss the Joshua Tree North Wildlife Linkage Corridor (pictured below): where it is in our Copper Mountain Mesa/Coyote Valley neighborhood, why it's important, what kind of animals and plants live there, and how each of us can help to make the corridor more successful."

I had a wonderful time listening to the lectures and learned a lot about our desert environment"

Sunday 11- 73 to 50 degrees.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile run.

I started to place the pavers down and I found I was kinda short on the side. I decided to move them all around, but thought of a better plan and will use bricks to fill the empty extra space.

Monday 12- 73 to 47

I did my stretches, yoga and took the dogs for a walk.

UPS delivery

I finished laying the rest of the pavers down and got them all aligned.

Tuesday 13- 70 to 48

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lb dumbbells, took me doggies for a one mile jog.

I spread out the fine sand I bought to fill in the gaps between the pavers.

Wednesday 14-

I did my stretches, lifted weights, took me doggies for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I went to Staters in Twentynine Palms because I forgotten to purchase eggs. I brought home chicken for me and the dogs.

I watered down the pavers so the fine sand would set between them.

Thursday 15- 68 to 49 degrees and really windy.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile run.

I moved the new washer from the garage and placed it in the “laundry room” and uncrated it. The wind started to blow very hard out of the southwest just when I was walking the foam crating materials to the dumpster and had to run down a few escapees that gotten blown away.

The wind picked up and I brought the dogs inside. Later around 1am I heard the patio creak and I went outside to find the south side wall had come undone and I tried to brace it with 2x4s.

Friday 16- 67 to 38 very high winds!

Woke up to find that the south side patio wall had collapsed.

I did my stretches and that’s about all because of the high wind.

Because of the data breaches of Yahoo, I closed my account there and on MySpace where my account was still open.

Saturday 17- 51 to 30 degrees and still very high winds, but not as much as yesterday.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile run.

I can’t work on the patio because of the wind.

Sunday 18-

To me it's winter when my cement pond freezes over... It did so this morning

I did my stretches and went right to work on the patio.

It took hard work, rocks and sticks for leverage, 2x4s to hold in place, bunches of nails hammered, and me keeping the dogs away who wanted to look on and supervise, but I got it done.

Monday 19- 53 to 35

I did my stretches, lifted weights, took me doggies for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Tuesday 20- 65 to 42

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile run.

Worked in the laundry room getting ready to hook up the new washer.

Linda called for my help tomorrow moving a few things in my truck; I said I would.

I took my doggies for an evening mile run.

Wednesday 21- 56 to 44 with rain... lots of rain!

I did my stretches. It was raining so me and the dogs just kinda stayed inside most of the day.

There was a break in the rain and I helped Linda move some stuff to Dhamma Dena retreat from her trailer she’s selling.

I fell hard. I clipped the corner of the wood stove and because of all the sand on the floor from the wind and then the rain, slipped. I hurt my right arm the one I had trouble with, right hip, twisted my right foot, and hit my head on the floor. I laid there for a few minutes assessing my injuries. Looks like I won’t be doing any exercising for a few days until things work themselves out.

Thursday 22- 50 to 41 with rain

It rained all yesterday and still raining today. The electricity and internet went out in Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms yesterday until sometime this morning. I still had power cause I'm on solar, but was forced to read books, but that was a good thing.

Friday 23- 57 to 44 with heavy fog.

We are socked in with heavy fog right now. Started late last night and it's still hanging around. Can't see more than a hundred feet or so. I've only seen this happen once since I've been up here and it wasn't this bad.

I took the dogs for a walk over to check on a neighbor’s cabin. My foot still hurts, but is healing.

Saturday 24- 53 to 36 with dark clouds overhead, cold wind and a bit of rain.

I did my stretches.

Just stayed inside with my doggies reading and watching videos.

Sunday 25- 48 to 33 nice and sunny day :)

I did my stretches, lifted weights, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

My doggies, Cassie and Barney wearing their Christmas bandanas. They want to thank Carolyn Keyes Shaffer for the pretty bandanas

My landline telephone went dead on Christmas! I think it's because of the all the mud and water that settled in the road at the bottom of my hill after the bad weather hit. People in cars get stuck there and sometimes hit the green telephone box thingy... So I won't get any Merry Christmas call wishes on that phone.

Monday 26- 49 to 32 degrees with hazy skies.

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lb dumbbells, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog.

I went to Home Depot to pick up 20 more pavers and I found some half sized pavers I needed. Before I stopped there I went to do a quick supply run at WalMart and got a roasted chicken to share with the dogs.

Them paver get heavy after carrying them out of Home Depot and my arms were tired, so I left them in the bed of the truck and will carry them into the laundry room tomorrow.

Tuesday 27- 54 to 39 and sunny.

I did my stretches and gave me and the dogs the day off from our jogging.

I picked up my landline phone and heard a dial tone! Yippi!

I unloaded all the pavers and moved them to the laundry room and put a few of the half sized paved into the ground so I could move the washer onto them and balance the machine. That all took awhile.

I swept the floor of the whole cabin... lots of dust and dog hairs.

I am putting together an old laptop of mine I’m going to give to a friend whose young child stepped on the one she had been using breaking it in two.

Wednesday 28- 61 to 42 degrees and sunny.

I did my stretches and took the doggies for a mile jog.

I hooked up all the hoses, threw a bunch of clothes inside the washer, turned on the generator and laid down the rest of the pavers while my clothes were being washed.

Did a poop patrol before sunset.

How deep the mud

Thursday 29- 64 to 41 slightly cloudy.

I did my stretches, yoga, exercised with the 10lb dumbbells, and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I mopped the whole cabin floors with Lysol.

Took the dogs for an evening walk.

Friday 30- 56 to 43 with light rain here and there.

Saturday 31- 57 to 43 with lots of rain in the evening hours.

I did my stretches and exercised with the 20lb dumbbells and took the dogs for a mile jog.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

I get a lot of my ideas and inspirations from what people post here. Lately it’s been about people's negativity towards them. Here's a few of what I read:
Telling us something can't be done, you'll never amount to anything or you can't do this or that thing because you’re not smart or talented enough.
“getting smacked for saying my online thoughts and words”
“people put me down, and say I can't accomplish things”
Imagine if we didn’t ignore those who put us down, those naysayers to whom we cannot do anything right in their eyes. Such a sad sad world it would be... A poem never written, a story not told, an invention not invented, and art not created or performed.
I say ignore them naysayers and go out there and create something incredibly wonderful this New Year! <3

The end of the road looks hidden and gloomy as I walk this path of life’s final journey. I hear a cry, a shout, a wild winter’s scream, I stop to glance back to see what it all means, who might be following, stalking me down, who hides in the shadows to strike me a blow, to be left to die slowly on the side of the road.

Ascending now quickly into cold damp dreary hollow of forsaken souls from dark dismal dreams, attacked on all sides by evil swarms of screaming Banshees. I jump, I sprint, I windmill my arms to fight off this curse, to run away safely before it gets worse. I slow in my journey down this two legged highway, and come to a rest on an old wooden bench all weathered and gray. Across lies a field covered in thorns, I shall not tread there for my shoes are too worn. The old bench that I sit catching my breath is really a trap as its limbs they unwrap. With twigs for fingers they pick and they tear, shedding my clothes, my flesh and my hair. Reaching out grabbing and squeezing, the limbs are now closing blocking my view, from all that I love and friends that knew. Cherished loved ones whose paths I have crossed, now all have gone missing, perished or lost. I have no regrets on this wild road I have taken, what lies beyond a dream of a life, nobody knows unless they awaken.

To win gracefully without taking all the glory is a true triumph. To lose gracefully and not blame others is true leadership.

Confirmation bias has led us into a world of irrational conflicts justified by half truths and deceptions. Those who tried to be objective were silenced by both sides and now stand facing the precipice of history with a strong wind at their backs and compelled to watch as events unfold.

Life is like a doorbell... you either answer it or you don't.

On wings spun of glistening chrysalis web, fairies descending glide and soar around my bed. Wearing ballet slippers they do tiptoe dance, to sprinkle pixie dust upon my head. Fleeting dreams of white castles up high and secret forest effervesce throughout my mind. Oh, these fairies do love to romp and play as I sleep, taking me to exotic realms, the inhabitants I meet. Elves and fairies, trolls, pixies and nymphs, these are beings who truly exist.
A fairy dream is a memory that flutters and flows, then vanishes back into those realms we don’t know, forgotten now when we awake, waiting for us to open our minds, and believe in their magic, just one more time.

November 2016

Cassie_Barney_egg.jpg

Cassie is very dainty and eats around her egg yolk saving it for last, while Barney gobbles his right up at the beginning

Tuesday 01- 72 to 48 a cool, cloudy and windy day.

I did my stretches, lifted lite weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I finally fixed the clock and have it altogether!

I connected the Raspberry Pi to the ethernet and it reset the date and time to the right one. So it is definitely a WIFI problem on the new OS install.

Wednesday 02- 73 to 52 degrees it was a little windy but died down in the evening... a sunny day it was.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a morning and evening walk.

Took my friend Chris shopping; she and her mom Mary have no transportation.

Thursday 03- 80 to 58

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells and took the doggies for a mile run.

I spent the day doing maintenance to the house; taking down the old battered fan, installing a porch light, getting the electric piano moved to the other side of the room where the old couch I threw away took up that space. I’ve been using the piano as a table and now it’s out where I can see and play it.

I took the doggies for their evening walk.

Friday 04- 81 to 59 clear and sunny.

I did my stretches, yoga, exercise with the 10lb dumbbells, punched the heavybag for a few rounds and then took my doggies for a mile jog.

Worked cleaning up the yard... still lots to do there.

I took my doggies for an evening mile jog.

Saturday 05- 82 to 59

I did my stretches and took my two wonderful doggies for a morning and evening  walk.

I mostly worked inside cleaning up the clutter.

Sunday 06- 82 to 54

I did my stretches, lifted lite weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I took my doggies for an evening mile jog.

Monday 07- 81 to 55

I did my stretches, weights bench, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I rode my electric bike over to Frank and Mary’s, but they weren’t home so I left them a note.

I took my doggies for an evening mile jog.

Everything is in a state of flux dynamically spinning in a dance orchestrated by the laws of physics...

Tuesday 08- 82 to 53

Today is not the end of the world. We will continue on despite whoever gets elected. We are a just and honorable people with different views. I do not know who will win today. I just know that we love and are loved and that is what really counts in life, all else is just a facade.
~RD

Wednesday 09- nice and sunny.

I did my stretches and took Cassie and Barney for an evening jog.

I finished the first edit (or at least I think it’s the first edit) of my book “Desolation” sixteen chapters and over 60 thousands words.

Thursday 10- sunny again!

I took my doggies for a mile jog.

Friday 11- we’ve been having the greatest weather here for a week or so.

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lb dumbbells and took the doggies for a nice jog.

With all the craziness going on in the world at this moment I believe it's only right to do a Free Promotion my very dark Science Fiction eBook “Rainbow at the End of Tomorrow: Book 1” for one week.

Saturday 12- 81 to 59.

I did my stretches and took Cassie and Barney for a nice walk.

I went to the community center where we were having our annual general meeting. This is where we elect our board members.

Teresa Sitz and I tallied the votes. Ken Sitz is President. Kip is VP. Christian and Rohini both share the Secretary duties. Jay and Stephanie are new board members. Mary Helen is Treasurer (not really sure how that's going to workout because she is not on the board. I talked to David King and he said something of paying her a dollar or some such and having one of the board members fill the position and MH do the accounting)

Jay approach me afterwards asking about the column and if I would ask Annelies if she’d be interested in letting him help or take it over. He checked off a list of his qualifications and awards he has won in journalism... I felt like taking back my book of poems I had just given him lest he start reading it to find my horrible grammar and run on sentences. Anyways, I told him it was Annelies column, how I enticed her into taking it over from me some years ago, and it was her decision. I think Jay is an excellent choice if Annelies ever wanted to move on.

I took my doggies for a mile jog when I got back home.

Sunday 13- 81 to 56 degrees.

I did my stretches and took my doggies for a mile jog.

Called Family and Friends.

Took the dogs on an evening nice walk.

Took pictures of the SuperMoon the biggest one since 1948.

Monday 14- 82 to 52 and clear.

I did my stretches, weights bench, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I went to start cutting all this scrap wood I have outside into smaller pieces to fix in my wood stove, unfortunately my generator quit on me after only a few boards were cut. I wasted time trying to get the dang thing working again. I finally got tired and overheated and went inside to do something else.

I took my dogs on an evening jog.

Tuesday 15- 83 to 53

I did my stretches and took my doggies for a one mile jog.

I left for town to the sounds of howling dogs. I usually put them in the dog pen, but this time I let them stay in the yard. When I got home Barney had almost dug a hole underneath the gate. I’ll have to do a little Barney proofing of the fence and gate. I got to town and got gas and a propane tank filled. Then to the Lab place to have some blood drawn... the Doc wanted to have the last results rechecked. Went to WalMart, Petco, and Home Depot for supplies.

The doggies and I ate a whole chicken I got at WalMart.

Wednesday 16- 72 to 46 overcast.

I did my stretches and took the doggies for a walk.

UPS Delivered my two new 120 watt flex solar panels to power the trailer.

I did the poop patrol with the new poop scooper I got at Petco... there was a lot of it.

I went out when it got dark to watch the Leonids Meteor Shower, but the wind was blowing hard out of the northwest which caused poor seeing. The brightness of the Moon and the now cold weather added to my difficulties, so I just went inside.

I finished October’s Journal and posted it.

Thursday 17- 67 to 41 degrees and mostly sunny with a bit of wind in the morning.

I did my stretches and took me doggies for a mile jog. It was cold and windy, but it felt good.

I went to the post office to mail a birthday card and pick up an Ulmer Germany Beer Mug I ordered on Ebay. I was stationed in Ulm Germany in 69. I then did some shopping at the Dollar Store and Stater Bros and then home to share some chicken I bought with my doggies.

We went for an evening walk.

Friday 18- 62 to 35

I worked on the roof patching where the rain leaks through onto the patio and garage.

I took the dogs for an evening mile jog.

Saturday 19- 66 to 37

I did my stretches, weights bench, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I went to Potluck with my rice and cookies (I can’t cook). Dyan Carroll and Dorothy Jacobsen showed us their culinary skills with a delicious spread of salmon patties, turkey stuffing, coleslaw, cheddar cheese broccoli and carrot cake. Mary and Chris stirred up some mighty tasty stew. Susie tended bar and handed out out non-alcoholic Shirley Temples and Roy Rogers. Dave brought some Barbecue beans that were to die for (if you ate too many of them). It was Mary Koval’s and Dave King’s Mom’s birthday and we all got to sing Happy Birthday twice. There were around twenty hungry folks who showed up.

Sunday 20- 77 to 54 degrees. It rained a bit here and there and a lot during the night when I was asleep.

I did my stretches, yoga and took my doggie for a mile jog.

I worked in the yard and did poop patrol.

I took the dogs for a mile run.

Monday 21- 67 to 45 windy, clouds and getting colder.

I asked Semi to come over to my house to see Barney. Semi used to help Sherry out a long while ago and him and Barney are old friends. I thought it’d help Barney to see a friendly face.

ED drove by and stopped to say hello. I haven’t seen him since his wife rolled the car up my hill in 1998. I helped Ed cut his and daughter hanging upside down inside the car and we all waited for 45 minutes for the fire department. She lost her purse and her little dog.

I did my stretches, exercised with the 20lb dumbbells and took the dogs for a mile jog.

I did some yard work and then started writing Christmas cards to send out.

Me and my doggies went for a mile evening jog.

I finally broke down and bought a washing machine: “Samsung 4.2 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Front Load Washer in White, ENERGY STAR” from Home Depot online and they’ll deliver it on Wednesday Nov 30th. It was $499 and I thought it was a good deal.

I did my stretches and took the dogs for a mile jog.

Post office, shopping at Stater Bros.

I took me doggies for an evening mile jog.

Wednesday 23- 70to 43 degrees and clear.

I ate the whole pie I had bought for the Thanksgiving dinner. What do you call it when you're stressed out about Thanksgiving and the pie you bought to take with you to the dinner is sitting before you on the kitchen counter and you look down to find you had just eaten it all?

I me doggies went for an evening mile jog.

Thursday 24- 63 to 47 degrees.

I did my stretches, weights bench, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I wasn’t feeling up to going for a Thanksgiving dinner and stayed at home instead; I started doing a little work on my Harley. Then I started working on the Honda Generator that I need to get up and running for my new washer coming next Wednesday.

I me doggies went for an evening mile jog.

Friday 25- 63 to 42.

I did my stretches and took the doggies for a mile jog.

I took apart my Honda Generator and cleaned it all out, sprayed compressed air into the carburetor to clear out the jets, put it all back together, pulled the starter rope and it fired up on the second pull. I let her run for a spell to make sure it wasn’t going to stall and sputter to a halt. I think I’ll cut up some wood for the stove tomorrow.

I me doggies went for an evening mile walk.

Saturday 26- 67 to 48 windy and feeling colder.

I did my stretches, yoga, and took my doggies for a mile jog.

I got the generator over to the woodpile and fired her up and used the circular saw to cut some firewood.

I took the dogs for a mile walk in the wind that was kicking up.

Sunday 27- 56 to 40 and really windy with clouds!

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, punched the heavybag for a spell and took my doggies for a mile jog.

Monday 28- 60 to 37 with wind...

I did my stretches, lifted 20lbs dumbbells and took my doggies for a mile jog.

I did a poop patrol of the whole yard and collected a lot of the brown stuff.

I took my doggies for a walk... we would gone farther but for the wind blowing so hard.

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, punched the heavybag for a spell and took my doggies for a mile jog.

I watered the plants in the yard and did a little cleaning up.

I worked on my Harley for a spell trying to figure out the wiring problem.

I worked out with the 10lb dumbbells and then me doggies went for an evening mile jog.

Wednesday 30- 59 to 36 and sunny.

I did my stretches.

I had to wait for the delivery truck carrying my new washer. They got here a bit after 1pm dropping off the new and picking up the old rusted one. I was then able to take my doggies for a nice long walk.

Poems we use to convey our sorrows of friends we knew of lovers we loved. These words we write wash over our being to relive those cherished moments of a life once bright, but now gone missing.

Shiny specks of rainbows fall upon my window sill... radiant rays of sunshine come and then go... Dust that gathers on that ledge... cries out to me an inner fear... reminding me the passage of a life... and the evanescing embers of my mind.

An Email I got from my friend Kula:

Hey Bob, Was the meteor shower cancelled? I got up early & it was an amazing clear sky but I saw none!

xxoo

My reply:

Kula, I called and was put on hold for about an hour. Then I was passed through the different multitudes of talking heads until I got The Supreme One. The Supreme One was on a conference call with Galileo, Newton, Einstein and Nicolaus Copernicus about the meteor shower and I was asked to join in.
"My Friend Kula wants to know why the meteor shower was cancelled," I asked the others sitting around their computer monitors.
"Well to answer Kula's question," replied Galileo Galilei to me, "The Supreme One over there was so stunned by the election results and forgotten all about the meteor shower."
The Supreme One looked a little red with embarrassment and we all thought it best to move on discussing other subjects of a purely spatial nature.
Thanks for asking <3

October 2016

Saturday 01- very windy.

yard

Sunday 02- windy again today but not as bad.

Last week I was helping out a friend pick up a generator on the west side of Border ave. We drove up to the house and there was lots of barking from behind the fence. The lady who lives there must have had 10 to 15 Siberian Huskies and all were friendly and wanted our attention. I stuck my closed hand in between the gate rails and was licked by everyone of them.

I took Kelly to WalMart, Home Depot, and I got gas at Arco.

Monday 03- kinda out of it for the next 3 days. All I remember is working in the yard on these days. What hit me was I almost called Sherry about something, maybe to go to the store or something and completely forgetting she has passed.

Friday 14- 90 to 62 degrees.

I did my stretches, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

Continued to work in the yard. Lots to clean up.

Saturday 15- 89 to 60...

It was a very nice service Sherry's family put on for her. Meeting all these friends, family and her coworkers who knew her and loved her. Many stood up and spoke about her, even I, telling story after wonderful story of Sherry's life. I felt after I left the service that I finally had some closure. I'll always think about her, but in a better state of mind without sorrow; she was a magnificent person...
I put up a video on my FB page that Sherry's Niece made. If you haven't, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r32cIfI8Gqo
Warning: be prepared to cry when you watch the video.

Mostly worked in the yard.

Roger Smith dropped by after the USDA food distribution and jawed about the community center and the goings on there.

Tuesday 18- 83 to 53.

I did my stretches, lifted lite weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Wednesday 19- 79 to 58 degrees and a very nice day it was!

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a morning and evening walk.

Simi stopped by to pick up a book he lent me and we sat around yammering for a spell.

I have a long ways to go working in the yard all day.

Thursday 20- 85 to 62 degrees.

Post office to get my packages I ordered from FreedomPop, Staters to get supplies, then to the 99 cent store to pick up Kelly some Halloween treats. I left them on Kelly’s door because she, her dogs and cats and car were gone. Maybe she left for good.

Friday 21- 85 to 59.

I did my stretches, lifted lite weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sami came by with some 6 glass bricks I wanted. As we were sitting there jawing there was a truck towing a water trailer coming up the road. All of a sudden the trailer’s axle came off with both tires still connected and rolled down the hill. The driver tried to tow the wheeless trailer to the side of the road, but the truck’s back tires started digging in and had to stop. Sami and me walked on down to the bottom of the hill to help the driver move the axle over to her trailer that she unhooked. She said she knew someone with a flatbed that will come out to move it later.

My Brother Kevin was released from the hospital and is home now resting.

Martie, Sherry’s sister, called tell to say she was bringing Barney down tomorrow. I told her I’ll be down there with bells on to take him to his new home with me and Cassie.

OnTrac was supposed to deliver a package today and like usual they didn’t... said it was the wrong address. I called Amazon and complained again. The rep called OnTrac who said it was too far for their driver to go. I told the rep that last time they said I turned down the package. The rep called OnTrac back and had them schedule a delivery for Monday.

Saturday 22- 91 to 62 degrees.

I got up and did my stretches and got Cassie in the truck for the ride to Sherry’s house in Yucca Valley to pick up her boyfriend Barney to live with us. As I drove with Cassie towards town I noticed that the water trailer the lady left behind was still there. I am thinking now it may be a traffic hazard and someone could plow into it in the night.

Sunday 23-

I woke up wondering what Barney liked to eat and was thinking about calling Sherry to ask her. Dang, I never thought things like this would happen to me. I must be getting senile.

I did my stretches, lifted lite weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes. I was a little concerned that Barney wouldn’t keep up with us on our jog. If he couldn’t we’d all walk back to the house. Barney was out there sniffing the ground back and forth as we jogged; I guess that’s a hound dog’s nature. Seem to me he really liked getting out jogging and howling at nature.

Monday 24- rained most of the day with lots of lightning.

I did my stretches and took Cassie and Barney for a walk.

OnTrac finally dropped off my package just as it started to sprinkle a little

Started to rain and then a lightning storm came and knocked out the internet and cell phone service in our area. I had to look around for Barney who had decided to take cover under a desk inside the garage. I found him shivering and brought him inside to calm him down. Cassie was oblivious to the lightning and thunder. One struck so close I could swear it hit the house.

Tuesday 25- a little windy after the remainder of the storm finally passed through.

I did my stretches and took Cassie and Barney for a mile jog.

I called Mojavewifi to see when the internet would be up and I got a recording saying it might be down for folks and the are working with Edison and the power outage to get it all fixed. No problem, I’m getting a lot of work done on my books.

Wednesday 26- a nice sunny day.

I did my stretches, lifted lite weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

My neighbor Stevie stopped by with her kinda sort of granddaughter; she’ll have to wait until Stevie’s grandson gives her a ring, and we were yapping about this and that and I asked about her internet. She said it has been up with no problem after the storm. I called Mojavewifi and Tina said they have a repair guy come out by 2pm tomorrow.

Well it's been over five days since that lady left her water trailer almost in the middle of the road. I got a little mad when I seen a few cars almost hit it and one car went off the road to avoid the trailer. In the evening when I walked the dogs I opened the tank and drained out about 250 gallons the lady said she had in it. Later when it was empty I cut the tie downs and rolled the water container off the trailer. Then I used the two long 4x4s that tank sat on to use as levers to pivot and tipped the trailer off the road. It was kinda heavier than I thought and kept slipping towards the burm as I lifted it. I finally get it to its tipping point and let it go. It fell off the road and not on me.

Thursday 27- 79 to 60 and sunny.

I did my stretches and walked the dogs.

I went into Yucca to get a blood test at the lab down there. I stopped in and they said it would be a two hour wait. So I filled up my truck and a five gallon of gas and went to WalMart to get a 5 gallon propane bottle and some supplies. I even stopped off at Staters Bros to get some chicken for me and the dogs.

Jeff and Robert from down the street came by and I asked them to help me get the little bit of the water trailer still sticking out off the road. They were more than happy to help.

Joe from Mojavewifi arrived to put in a new receiver that most of blown out during the lightning storm last monday. I am back online again!!! Yeah for me! I did get a lot of editing done on my book “Desolation” while internet was out.

My dear old friends Frank and Mary came by to tell me they were moving up here for good... I think that’s great! Now I’ll have someone up here to bug.

Friday 28- 87 to 62 with some very nice clouds.

I did my stretches, lifted lite weights, yoga, took Cassie and Barney for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Saturday 29-

I made two trips giving Mary and Chris a ride to Potluck; Best yet... ate too much!

Sunday 30-

Got sick stuffing my face yesterday and then today with potluck leftovers.

Monday 31-

Felt better mile jog with the dogs

Upgraded my Raspberry Pi 3b OS from Raspbian to Pixel... now I am having trouble with the date and time shows February 2016 no matter what Linux commands I try to change it. Went to online forums and other folks are having problem... looks to be wireless. I will try Ethernet connection tomorrow to see if that corrects it.

I took apart a broken Timex battery operated alarm clock. One of the leads came undone, but it is late and will have to wait until tomorrow (have to save my batteries charge for tonite)

Scientist say they found a Dyson Sphere: Nah...

Dyson Sphere; is the great stuff of  science fiction... you just never know what you’ll find out there in the universe. Think about this... the Earth is growing much more silent now that we are using less open broadcasts like AM radio and broadcast television. Everything is becoming more digital and compressed as the Earth grows silent. Someday the noise of Earth will just blink out and will no longer be heard in the vastness of space. So what should we be looking for when we seek out advanced civilizations?

The Truman Show (my thoughts)

The perpetuated lies defined Truman's reality as he knew it to be. As it is in our own realities we are being manipulated and fed through mass media and false belief systems.
I think most of us hide behind the convenient illusion of time instead of living in the moment.

September 2016

September 2016

Thursday 01- 108 degrees

I did my stretches, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog. I did try punching the heavy bag for a little bit but it hurts my right arm that I believe has tennis elbow or some such, so I’ll just discontinue boxing for the two weeks I am giving my right arm time to heal.

I swept the bedroom and bathroom floors.

I went over to Sherry’s house with Cassie to do a poop patrol and helpout.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Friday 02- 104 degrees; nights are finally cooling down some at 71 degrees.

I did my stretches, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog. We found a bunch of nails again on the road of Borland Pass. This is the fourth time in the past two months. I picked them all up.

Needing some fresh fruits I went to Stater Bros again. I found out this morning that Monday is Labor Day and wanted to beat the holiday crowds that usually show up.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Saturday 03- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

I got a call from Sherry’s friend Kathy telling me that Sherry was taken to the hospital after Kathy called the paramedics when she found her in respiratory distress. Sherry told Kathy to have me pick up a bag of dog food and ten 25 pound bags of cat litter. Kathy also told me there was no rush, that there was already enough to last over a week and she would be feeding the dogs. I told her I’d pick some up on Wednesday and do the poop patrol and change the water for the dogs.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Sunday 04- 101 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench without the weights... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

I tried to call Sherry’s cell phone and it went right to message. Kathy told me later Sherry had turned it off because she had a very hard time talking on it.

I started writing a new book called “Upon Ashen Roads”; I do this when I am stressed.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Monday 05- 96 degrees!

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Tuesday 06- 95 to 69 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

On our jog we met a man driving by and he stopped to chat for a spell. His name is Brett and he is staying at the first house on Winters Rd about a mile east of me. Brett told me that the previous owner, John, had been in the hospital and passed a few months ago. Brett’s friend had bought the place, but he couldn’t take the heat and asked Brett to stay there and fix it up. I kinda knew something was up a six or so months ago when I drove by and saw two women cleaning out the place.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Wednesday 07-

I did my stretches, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

I went to Sherry’s house to take care of the dogs. I went out and bought 50LBS of dog food and nine bags of 25LBS each of cat litter (found out I was shorted one bag and went back and got a refund for it). I did the poop patrol, changed the water and fed the dogs.

Kathy called telling me that Sherry may not be coming back home for a long time. The hospital is going to move her to a skilled nursing home with rehab this Saturday. I will wait until they get her all settled in at the nursing home and then go down there for a visit.

Thursday 08-

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

Medical canceled Kelly’s benefits because the paperwork she was supposed to fill out was never delivered. Her car is in the shop being fixed and she needed a ride to the Welfare office in Twentynine Palms. We stopped off afterwards to get falafels at Palm Kabob House on Adobe Rd. Very filling and tasted great!

Friday 09- 100 to 74 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

Kathy called to give me an update on Sherry and it doesn’t look good, but we can only hope for the best and see if Sherry how she does in the skilled nursing home and rehab. Kathy said she wouldn’t be able to take care of Sherry’s critters for two weeks after the 21st. I told Kathy I’d come by every other day to feed the critters as she already had a friend who said the same. We will coordinate the days in the coming weeks.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Saturday 10- 103 to 75 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

Kathy called to tell me Sherry, my best friend up here in the desert, had passed away in her sleep around 2:30PM. I told her I will call her friends to let them know. I feel very very broken....

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

I wrote a poem for Sherry and posted it to FaceBook: The dreaded news came much sooner, my shock unexpected, the die has cast, phone calls to be made. The day drew weary, the sky has dimmed, there was so much to say, fond memories to share, of friends who we knew and places we’ve been, but not a word to be heard from the other side of darkness.

I took Cassie for a night run up the hill and back. This seemed to calm my mind along with the writing.

Sunday 11- 101 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

On our jog Cassie saw a white truck parked up at the top of the hill that looked like the county truck Sherry drove and Cassie dragged me over to it. Finding out it wasn’t Sherry’s Cassie laid down in the shade of it while I talked to the driver. His name was Jeff and lived down east of me. He’d stopped to get cell reception as he can’t from his property.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Monday 12- 100 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

Worked around the yard throwing crap I don’t need into the dumpster.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

I put my phones to record messages only... just don’t feel like talking to anyone right now.

Tuesday 13- 110 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Wednesday 14- 104 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog.

I tinkered and got my Honda generator running again.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Thursday 15- 96 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench... situps and leg curls, stuff like that, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog, but had to cut it short because there was a black but more bluish in color Toyota Tacoma like Sherry’s personal truck parked across from our jogging path on Borland Pass; kinda freaked me out and Cassie was dragging me to it. I decided to walk Cassie back home in the opposite direction.

I did my stretches, and went for my one mile evening jog with Cassie.

Friday 16- 98 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a short walk.

I had to go to town to get supplies.

I asked about AEDs (Automated Electronic Defibrillator) at WalMart, no one knew what I was talking about not even the assistant manager. One salesperson asked if it was the thing you stick in your thigh; an EpiPen. I explained what the were and the assistant manager said management would get back to me by phone with an answer. I thought it was strange that a store the size of WalMart wouldn’t have a AED.

Saturday 17- 100 degrees and Sunday 18- 103 degrees

I did my stretches and took Cassie for her morning and evening walks.

Monday 19- 101 degrees with lots of humidity.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

I went to mail off birthday cards. On the way back I talked to David, Jeff, Mike, and Dawn about Sherry. Our little community flew the US flag at half staff today in remembrance to Sherry Rotruck and her volunteer work she did at the USDA food distribution and helping out local residents in need. I thought that was mighty nice of them and took a picture of the flag.

I went for an evening mile job with Cassie.

Tuesday 20- rained and drizzled all day long.

I did my stretches, yoga, and took Cassie for a one mile jog. It had just began drizzling when we started our jog.

I just got word that services for Sherry Rotruck will be held on Saturday October 15th at the Yucca Valley Community Center from 1 to 3pm in the Yucca Room.
Address: 57090 Twentynine Palms Highway, Yucca Valley, CA 92284
Please pass this on to all of Sherry's Friends

Wednesday 21- rained all day

I did my stretches. It stopped raining for a few hours and the ground was firm so me and Cassie went for a one mile jog. I heard the electricity has been out for several here and there beginning sometime yesterday when a power pole was struck by lightning somewheres in Landers and got a call earlier today telling me their electric is still out.
Well we needed the rain and there hasn't been any heavy showers that I know of.

Thursday 22- sunny 85 to 56 degrees and windy, lots of wind.

I did my stretches and Cassie and me went for a one mile jog.

Friday 23-

I did my stretches and Cassie and me went for a one mile jog.

It is cooler outside and I was able to work in the yard all day.

Saturday 24-

I did my stretches and Cassie and me went for a one mile jog.

I went to Potluck.

Sunday 25-

I did my stretches and Cassie and me went for a one mile jog.

I worked more in the yard

Me and Cassie went for an evening mile jog.

Monday 26-

I did my stretches and Cassie and me went for a one mile jog.

Yard moved trailer with only a few dents made along the way.

I went for an evening jog with Cassie and I twisted my right foot and limped back home. Now I can’t lift weights or jog! I think my right arm is slowly healing and getting stronger though.

Tuesday 27- 80 to 69 degrees... partly cloudy.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk... right foot still hurts.

Kelly car is in the shop getting fixed and asked me for a ride to her Doctor’s appointment at 2:45pm in Rancho Mirage. I didn’t get back home until 8pm after shopping at WalMart.

Wednesday 28- 87 to 67 with some evening clouds.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk. My foot still hurts but is feeling better than it did yesterday.

I did some more work out in the yard throwing stuff away. The cleanup is finally coming along quite nicely. While I was cleaning up the yard I was reinstalling Windows 7 on my HP laptop that didn’t like the new Win 10 special upgrade they just released.

Took cassie for an evening walk.

Thursday 29- 92 to 69 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted light weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for one minute. (trying to get back into lifting weights slowly as not to hurt my right arm as it heals)

I did my stretches, lifted 5lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie.

Friday 30- 91 to 71 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

Kelly frantically call me to say Edison disconnected her landlord’s bootleg electric setup and now has no power. She called around and found a friend who happen to have a generator she could borrow. I drove her over there to pick it up. I also got a five gallon can of gas from my house and an extension cord to plug into her refrigerator until I can get a male to male cord and plug it into a wall socket and power the whole house.

--------------------

Gosh how I gonna miss Sherry... We've been friends since I moved up here. The past few years we would get together twice a month or more so Cassie could play with Barney, Willy and Abby while we went shopping and had linder (lunch and dinner) as Sherry would call it, usually at the Sizzler.
She would always stop by on Saturdays in her County Truck doing her rounds. She would give Cassie treats and we would talk for a spell. One Saturday in July when I was still taking my EMR class Sherry showed me her right leg was swollen. We had studied up on this in the class and told her to go see her doctor right away. She got a second opinion and finally saw her doctor who gave her Lasix to reduce the water she was retaining and she seem alright after that for a while.
Towards the end I took her to her doctor and the ER down at Desert Regional a couple of times when both legs were swollen; Kathy and Jan Bonner also took her on her many trips down the hill to her doctor and ER. All the ER did was stabilize her and send her back home which kinda pissed me off (there's more to that story). September 03rd Kathy found her in respiratory distress and called the paramedics. They finally admitted her to a hospital room at Desert Regional that evening. I took care of Sherry's critters when Kathy couldn't. Kathy also told me Sherry had turned off her cell phone because she couldn't talk and mostly slept and didn't want visitors. Later in the week, Wednesday it was, Kathy called telling me that Sherry may not be coming back home for a long time and the hospital is going to move her the a skilled nursing home on Saturday 10. I was thinking that once she had gotten settled in I'd go down there for a visit at the nursing home, but that dreadful call came at 3pm on Saturday 10th telling me Sherry had passed around 2:30PM...

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

The dreaded news came much sooner, my shock unexpected, the die has cast, phone calls to be made. The day drew weary, the sky has dimmed, there was so much to say, fond memories to share, of friends who we knew and places we’ve been, but not a word to be heard from the other side of darkness.

Art can be just a few lines drawn here and there, but it's really how our minds perceive them. If we just take our time to ponder and imagine, these little lines drawn on a piece of scrap, can tell us wondrous stories... and a peek into the mind of the artist.

August 2016

August 2016

Monday 01- 112 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted the 20lb weights, took Cassie for a one mile jog.

Cassie and me out for a ride this evening on my new Sondors Ebike

Tuesday 02- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Wednesday 03- 112 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

We went to Sherry’s so she and I could go shopping while Cassie played with her friends. We did shopping and had linder (lunch/dinner) at the Sizzler.

Thursday 04- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Friday 05- 104 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for her morning and evening walk.

Saturday 06- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, took Cassie for short walk, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sunday 07- 108 degrees.

I did my stretches and yoga. Took Cassie for her walks.

Tonight I sat in my camping chair under a beautiful starry night. I was looking through my Celestron 15X70 Skymaster binoculars watching as the waxing crescent Moon sank behind and beneath the San Bernardino Mountains near to the west revealing pine trees and boulders on the ridges. I then turned to see Mars in Scorpio where it outshines Antares which is sometimes mistaken for Mars; it’s a good time to compare the two.

I alway find it hard to find the constellation Hercules, but I then recall it is between Corona Borealis and Vega; here you will find M13 the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules. In my 15X70 binoculars it appears as a tiny dust ball. In a decent telescope you will see somewhere around 300 thousand stars. M13 is 25 thousand light years away.

Later, I was looking for the coathanger asterism in the constellation Vulpecula when a meteor flashed across my binocular lens and it was the only meteor I saw tonight. The coat hanger asterism lies about four fingers at arm's length from the Constellation Aquila towards the bright star Vega. I like the coathanger asterism because it’s sometimes hard to find.

Monday 08- My Birthday! 105 degrees.

I did my stretches and lifted the 20lbs dumbbells and took Cassie for a walk.

I spent some time on FaceBook replying to all the birthday wishes my friends posted there.

I’ve been recently looking for a travel trailer and maybe do some traveling. I went to Yucca Valley to see one, but it wasn’t what I expected. We talked for a spell about the trailer and other things and I told them it is my birthday today. The lady who was selling the trailer, and her Mom and Dad sang happy birthday to me! I taken by their kindness I gave the lady a signed copy of “Azure Sea of Dreams”.

I then went to WalMart to get my haircut and a roasted chicken to share with Cassie.

Tonight was hazy with the smoke from the Pilot Fire in the San Bernardino Mountains. I smelled it last night around 1am and went outside to see if it was a nearby house on fire, but didn’t see any signs of a fire at all. Also the Moon seemed brighter tonight as it shined on the suspended smoke particulates, so the seeing wasn’t all that good. I did see three satellites; one was a tumbling piece of space debris.
I noticed that Cassiopeia was up way to the northeast. By following a string of stars, about a fist length from the brightest pointy tip of the sideways “M” southeast (at this time). And as you follow these stars you have to drop down a bit till you find three stars in a straight row that almost lead right to the Andromeda Galaxy. I always use this method when seeing is poor to find the galaxy, but I am sure there are other better ways of finding it. You can actually see the Andromeda Galaxy on a clear night with the naked eye if you don’t look straight at it and use the rods of your eyes instead of the cones. This technique is called Averted Vision. The Andromeda Galaxy being 2.4 million light years away is the farthest object you can see with the unaided eye.
I was about to go back inside when a very bright orange yellow meteor zipped out of the southwest almost making its way to Cygnus before it vaporized leaving behind a very nice translucent tail to rapidly fade into the darkness.

The winds have shifted and I can smell the fire again. I am wondering if my CERT team will be activated.

Tuesday 09- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for her walks.

Wednesday 10- 104 degrees.

I did my stretches, yoga, and took Cassie for a mile jog.

Thursday 11- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk and then went to my Doctor’s appointment. The Doc is setting me up for all the test and shots I need for the EMT class I may take next spring semester.

I stopped at the Health Club and registered for their Silver Sneaker program that my new health insurance covers.

We actually had a cloud burst a little after 2pm and it rained for about fifteen minutes. Pretty cool to go out there and dance in the rain.

Cassie and I sat outside and watched the Perseid Meteor shower. I couldn’t stay up late because I had an appointment to go purchase a cargo trailer in Redlands and had to be there before 1pm.

Friday 12- 108 degrees.

I woke up early, took Cassie for a walk, and then drove down to Redlands 80 miles away to pick up a 6X10 cargo trailer that I will convert into a travel trailer. I was worried that I’d have trouble driving up the 62 hwy grade, but with one eye on the temp gauge and going a bit slower up the hill than I usually do I didn’t have any problems. It looks much bigger in person than it did online.

I took Cassie for a nice long evening walk.

Saturday 13- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sherry dropped by to say hi to Cassie and while we were yapping Roger Smith stopped by and we yapped some more in the heat blistering Sun beating down upon us.

Sunday 14- 111 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie short walk (it was 101 degrees by 10am), core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Monday 15- 113 degrees.

I did my stretches, worked out with the 20lb dumbbells and took Cassie for a walk.

Did some cleaning around the house; even with the swamp cooler pumping away it was still too hot to do much of anything.

Tuesday 16- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a short walk, too hot already this morning when we got started.

I drove to the college to check out the textbook for the Medical Terminology class. I decided right then and there that it would be too much added on to what I want to do to get my already written book “Desolation” edited and published.

Went to Stater Bros while I was out and picked up some chicken for me and Cassie.

Wednesday 17- 108 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, went for a one mile jog alone; just too hot (103 degrees) for Cassie to come along and I don’t think she minded one bit, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Thursday 18- 103 degrees.

I did my stretches.

Got a call from my Stepmother’s friend Smita telling me my Stepmother had passed away. I called to inform my Sisters of her passing. I wrote a poem for my Stepmother Aki who we all loved. She had made the decision to discontinue her chemo and went into hospice, so her passing was expected but still saddening.

Friday 19- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I then went down to Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage to have lunch with my sister Leeanne and our very good friend Robin. I found out after a few miles from my home that the air conditioner on the Cougar was not working and I was cooking all the way down to Rancho Mirage where it reached 114 degrees that day. I made it okay but felt a little off. We ate at the buffet and yammered on and on about this and that... getting up to date on things. We stayed there yakking for almost two hours until I started feeling out of sorts and decided it was time to say our goodbyes. I got out to the car, opened the door where a blast of hot air hit me and the insides were like a oven and I was the turkey needing basting. The steering wheel was hot to the touch all the way back home. I had to drive with the windows open, which wasn’t much help seeing it was over 110 outside. I had planned to do a little shopping when I got to Yucca Valley, but only got gas and drove on home. I was still sweating and that’s a good sign, but once home and out of the car I ran water from the garden hose all over my body to get me cooled off.

Only after the sun went down did I take Cassie for a walk.

Saturday 20- 107 degrees.

I did my exercises and took Cassie for a walk.

Later in the evening when it was cooler we went for a mile run.

Sunday 21- 93 degrees and cloudy; a few sprinkles in the morning!

I did nothing except take Cassie for her walks.

Monday 22- 101 degrees.

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, and punched the heavybag for three minutes. Too hot for a walk or a run for Cassie and I decided not to go myself.

Tuesday 23- 99 degrees in 29Palms and 114 in Palm Springs.

I got up early and did my stretches.

I took Cassie over to Sherry’s to be among her own kind for a few days. I spent the day taking Sherry to the doctors and then to the ER at Desert Regional and didn’t get back home until 10:30pm. I left Cassie there for a ‘stay over’ and will pick her back up on Friday.

Wednesday 24- 101 degrees with haze.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, went for a mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

In the evening I rode the Sondors electric bike 6 miles!

Thursday 25- 103 degrees and hazy.

I did my stretches, yoga, went for a mile jog, exercised with the 10lbs dumbbells, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Friday 26- 100 degrees with clouds here and there.

I did my stretches, went for a mile jog and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I went to Yucca Valley to have some lab work done for the EMT class in spring semester. This is just in case I want to take the class I have to have it done.

I then went to WalMart to get a few supplies.

Cassie was staying at Sherry’s and I went to pick her up and have spaghetti that Sherry cooked up for me and Kathy that was mighty good.

Saturday 27- 93 degrees.

I did my stretches and me and Cassie went for a mile jog.

I went to Potluck and got pretty stuffed on the mighty fine grub there.

Venus Jupiter conjunction... I've been watching these two grow closer every night and thought I'd take a few pictures.

Sunday 28- 99 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a morning and evening walk.

Monday 29- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a morning and evening walk.

Tuesday 30- 107 degrees.

Went to Sherry’s and dropped Cassie off there so I can go to the lab in Yucca Valley to have some blood work done for the EMT registration requirements. I did some shopping at WalMart and then back to Sherry’s to help clean-up her yard (poop patrol)... I bought two California burgers at Carl’s Jr and some ice cream from Stater Bros to share with Sherry.

Wednesday 31- 103 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a short walk before I had to go to town in Twentynine Palms: Post office to pick up two packages, Stater Bros. to get a few things I missed yesterday and then on to the ER at hospital for a chest X-Ray; another EMT registration requirement.

Passive are the shallow waters, which runs beneath the realms of mortals, a sea without sympathy that observe our plight, as we silently slip beneath a shroud of darkness and into an abyss of eternal light.

They say if one door closes another opens... sometimes we may linger a little longer than we should... in a memory of what once was and seemed to always be, but now recognizing it never really was. Feeling not abandoned, but alone, yet smiling at your good fortune. I am comfortable with my solitude, but I still find myself standing in some damp darken corridor of my mind wishing this sealed door in front of me just might open a crack... allowing a small ray to bleed through, a bit of that sunshine of bliss I used to bathe in with thee, to shine upon my soul, to brighten these darken corridors of my mind once again...

July 2016

July 2016

Friday 01- 102 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Studied and finished Chapter 26 and its quiz and then began chapter 27.

Saturday 02- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I went to the community first Saturday breakfast. I got there around 8am and started taking folk’s vitals for my EMR class. I needed to fill out the whole sheet with vitals for twenty some people, I had seven left to do and I got them all filled out and done.

I finished chapter 27 and all the quizzes. Now to work on the acronyms they use in the EMS field.

Sunday 03- 104 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I had to do a couple of rewrites for class. I started trying to remember all those darn acronyms.

Monday 04- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile run.

I did some studying of them acronyms, but I’m about burned out on the whole EMR studying thingy that I’ll just spend a little time on them today and do something other than studying and maybe play the guitar or whatever; besides I finished all the chapter tests... I just have the hands on test to complete and I believe we’ll be studying these in the rest of what’s left of the class.

I took Cassie for a nice long walk.

The internet went out so I ended up studying the EMR book anyways.

Tuesday 05- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches and me and Cassie went for a mile jog.

I went to class and we practiced bandaging and placing a patient on a backboard.

I took Cassie for a nice long walk.

Wednesday 06- 101 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I arrived at class at 8:20am. We trained on providing oxygen to a patient via HVM and NRM.

I went to Stater Bros to do some shopping but they overcharged me $45.00 for two chicken hindquarters. I didn’t notice the overcharge until I got home. I called them up and they said no problem just bring in the receipt. I will also bring in the now empty box of chicken too, just incase.

I took Cassie for a nice long walk.

Thursday 07- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog where she slipped her collar and ran off. Gosh, all these thoughts went through my mind about having to chase her down and missing class until I got her back, but I just sat down and called to her and she finally came to me. I petted her and told her what a good doggie she is.

I made it to class on time.

Friday 08- 103 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I studied for my hands-on exams.

Saturday 09- 101 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I studied for my hands-on exams.

Sunday 10- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Studied...

Monday 11- 104 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for mile jog.

In class we did a simulated extraction from a car and also a medical emergency.

I took Cassie for her evening walk.

I studied for my hands-on exams.

Tuesday 12- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

In class we started our hands-on exams with the Medical Emergency. I believe I did well. Tomorrow we will have the other hands-on tests that I keep practising in my head and watching the videos over and over.

I went to Stater Bros to get back my $45 they overcharged me for the two chicken hindquarters. I didn’t notice the overcharge until I got home

On the way home I was pulled over by an officer of the law for speeding... 74 in a55mph zone. I really didn’t noticed I was speeding because my mind was on other things like the on-hands exams of today and tomorrow, but I do believe him. He was very kind and since I wasn’t an ax murderer he let me off with a warning. He said he just wanted me to get home safely. I did have to sign the warning and he asked if I would display it in my car to remind me not to speed, because the next time he wouldn’t be so kind. I have the warning displayed on my visor now.

I took Cassie for her evening walk.

Linda came over to have me look at her Kindle Fire and see why it’s not charging. It was a bad USB cable and I gave her a new cable for it. She also gave me some avocados.

Wednesday 13- 107 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

It’s the last day of class and we had to pass three hands-on tests to get my EMR certificate. I was quite nervous, but passed all three. The three hands-on tests were; coming on scene with a victim lying on the floor... what steps do you take; how to correctly and quickly hook up an oxygen cylinder to a regulator, connect it to a non rebreather mask and apply it to the patient’s face; demonstrate correctly how to save a patient with a cardiac failure using CPR, face-to-mask, bag-valve-mask, OPA (oropharyngeal airway), use a suction device, and AED (automated external defibrillator). I think I did good. I had already received an A on the online test portion.

I went to the end of class barbecue at 5:30pm and mingled around with my classmates until 8pm. Everyone was dang happy the class was over, especially me.

Thursday 14- 108 degrees.

I did my stretches and got ready for me and Cassie to go visit her doggie friends at Sherry’s while her and me go do some shopping.

I had to take a friend to the ER down at Desert Regional in Palm Springs. I sat in the waiting room for two hours observing the sick people and the medical personnel working. I was talking or being talked to by a crazy person I was trying to get away from. Then to top it all off there was a young man, nicely dressed, but with gang tattoos, having been escorted outside by security. The guy wouldn’t leave and got down on his knees and was yammering something to the sky. The security had him there for almost an hour until police arrive. Then after another half an hour they handcuffed him to a wheelchair and brought him into the ER. I didn’t find out what his problem was because I had to deal with the guy who said he was good friends with the John F Kennedy. I didn’t get home until after 8pm. Sherry said it was okay if Cassie stayed with her dogs for a few days so she could lose a few pounds running and romping around.

Friday 15- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, went for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Saturday 16- 117 degrees.

I woke up late and did my stretches, lifted 20 pound dumbbells, yoga, went for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes. It was too hot for Cassie to go outside.

Movie night! “Ace in the Hole” (1951) starring Kirk Douglas as a 20 minute hard boiled egg reporter who lost his job in New York and is now stuck in a small town newspaper waiting for a big news break.

Sunday 17- 112 degrees.

I did my stretches.

Monday 18- 107 degrees.

I did my stretches and then went to Copper Mountain College to pick up a packet, but the lady who hands out the packet wasn’t there. I will have to try again tomorrow.

I went to Sherry’s to pick up Cassie and Sherry made some mighty fantastically fine spaghetti which I ate two plate full and took some home. Cassie is on a diet and ain’t gonna get any.

Tuesday 19- 111 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I went to the college and picked up the packet for EMT, but the lady there said she didn’t think I’d have time to get all of what is required done before the start of the semester on Aug 15. There’s a full physical, a whole lot of shots, a background check, lab tests...

Wednesday 20- 116 degrees And Thursday 21- 117 degrees.

I did my stretches: too hot to do anything else...

Friday 22- 116 degrees.

I woke up early and went for a mile run, core trainer, punched the heavybag, and worked on the weight bench. Cassie isn’t feeling well and I had her stay inside while I did my exercises.

Linda’s car broke down on Coyote road and I went to help.

Saturday 23- 118 degrees Sunday 24- very hot indeed!

I didn’t do much these two days I can remember... just too dang hot to do anything.

Monday 25- 114 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

I am turning 65 next month and have to setup a provider with Medicare. I’ve been looking at two programs and decided on the one called Scan. I called the sales rep Christie and she asked to met me locally. I needed to do some shopping at Stater Bros so I told her Burger King would be just fine, but I needed an hour to clean up. She said that was perfect and she could wrap things up with her client she was with now. We met an hour later at BK and I signed up for the Scan program which gives me gym privileges at the local health club right there at the shopping center.

Tuesday 26- 113 degrees

I got up early and did my stretches, weight bench, went for a one mile jog with Cassie, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sonors Fat Bike arrived and I started to assemble it.

Lenovo Yoga 11E arrived and I got it all fixed up with the latest updates.

Went to take Cassie for a walk, but the delivery person left the gate open and she was gone like a paycheck in Vegas. I could chase her down and I knew if I paid her no attention she’d come back. So I went back to working on the bike. She came up to me in fifteen minutes and licked my leg.

Wednesday 27- 117 degrees

I did my stretches, exercised lifting 20lbs dumbbells, and took Cassie for a mile jog. Stayed in the house the rest of the day to keep cool.

Thursday 28- 116 degrees.

I did my stretches, core trainer, and went on a mile jog with Cassie.

I posted this on FaceBook seeking friend’s opinions:

The Fork in the Road
I've been busy the last couple of weeks trying to decide on a few things. It’s also been very hot here. There are two things I need to decide between doing: should I continue on the path towards EMT or get back to what I was doing before I took the EMR class; I was writing poems and books. I have 8 books self-published on Amazon, another I’m still editing, and I need to do a rewrite of them all, weave them altogether until I feel comfortable, re-publish and then sink a few bucks into promoting them.
The EMT part of my problem is that it’s something I’m interested in because I like helping people, but I am going to be 65 on the 8th, so to what end will the EMT be helpful... I really don't need a job in it. The EMR class gave me enough knowledge to save lives and get the patient ready for transport.
My biggest problem is that I can only focus on one Big thing at a time; I tend sink my whole being into these “Big Things”... little things I can deal with mostly, but it’s EMT or rewriting my books :)
I am not trying to impress you, I’m just trying to make you see my problem... kinda like using you as a sounding board. That's what people do, that’s how we help each other. Writing this to you helps me put this all down into words and is already helping me come to a decision. The fall semester starts Aug 15 and I won’t be able to take the EMT class this fall, but maybe a medical terminology class and then EMT come spring semester, so I need to come to a decision.

Friday 29- 116 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

I spent two hours writing my friend Ami-Ven a birthday story. She has been doing this on her blog for many years for her friends, so the last couple of years I decided to return the favor.

Saturday 30- 114 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a morning walk.

I went to the community Potluck and we all got pretty full on the mighty fine grub everyone brought. Charles called to say he couldn’t make it that his car broke down in Yucca Valley at the Big O Tire. I went after potluck to give him a ride home.

Sunday 31- 112 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

Charles called to ask if I’d pick him up and take him down to Yucca to pick up his car; I said yes and drove him to Big O where they had fixed his car. It turned out to be a bad alternator and needed to be replaced.

Goodbye July. You’ve been a very interesting month with the EMR class where I met new people and found that I still had it in me at the college level.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

A young Ami Ven went on a ski trip with her family to the Rocky Mountains. While the rest of her “expert skiing family” went off on the ski lodge’s many trails and ski runs, Ami, being this was her first time skiing adventure was forced to take a one-hour instruction class with a bunch of little kids. Her Mom, being a very protective Mom, had put so much insulation between Ami and the elements that she became so stiff she kept falling on her behind trying to learn the maneuvers their instructor was teaching. The younger children in the class seemed to enjoy Ami’s antics persistently laughing at her when she fell. To make matters worse after the class was through she was restricted to the Hansel and Gretel ski trail.
She went up and down the trail a few times. It was made easy to get back to the top grabbing onto the continuous rope-tow connected to a large red spinning wheel at the summit and a smaller one at the bottom.
The Hansel and Gretel ski trail was yellow taped off so the young skiers wouldn’t wander off trail, but one section of tape had been torn by a deer during the night’s heavy snowfall and was missing. This is where Ami made her grand exit from the beginner’s trail and out into the freezing cruel wilderness of the Rockies.
After a spell Ami noticed the rope-tow wasn’t where she expected it to be. She called out for help… nothing… she yelled… not a sound… she screamed until her lungs almost froze from inhaling the frigid dry air… growling, snarling, and yelping sounds came from the tree line just above her; a pack of wolves! The pack started slowly down the snow packed ridge towards her carefully sniffing the air.
Ami made a run for it and skied down the steep mountain slope as the wolves gave chase. Missing this tree and that rock, Ami thought she might have a chance of getting away, but a large boulder was planted right in her path and what she saw beyond it was a great fall of hundreds of feet and unquestionably death.
The wolves now had her encircled where she stood in front of the giant boulder with her ski poles pointed at them as they snarled, and snapped at her and each other. The alpha-male decided he wanted first pickings of Ami and turned towards the others with raised hair and yellow teeth showing. So fierce was the alpha’s glare that a young male skittered off whimpering with tail between his legs.
As the alpha-male was about to make his leap onto a frightened Ami, he suddenly stopped. There was a rumbling, the ground shook beneath Ami’s feet, and then darkness.
It was cold and dark and the back of her head hurt. She didn’t know how long she’d been out or which way was up or down, at least at first. She took her glove off and felt around. Ami discovered she was in a small crevasse of the boulder. Her back was against it and she could feel where it slanted up. She continued searching and felt something like a rug was lying next to her; the alpha-male!
He wasn’t moving. His head was buried under the snow of the avalanche that apparently struck them. Without a thought, Ami dug out the head of this wild creature of the mountains. His breathing was faint, but he was alive. She pulled him next to her to keep them both warm.
When the wolf finally woke he growled and snarled at Ami as she was petting him. He then settled down for a little while as Ami talked soothingly and continued petting.
“Okay Mister Wolf, we need to get out of here before we use up all the oxygen.”
With her broken ski pole she began digging into the snow above and next to the boulder. She kept clawing and digging at the packed snow to get free. Then the wolf figured it out and together they both dug and clawed until finally they broke through to see the brilliant blue of the mountain sky.
“Now don’t you eat me Mister Wolf,” Ami said knowing the wolf wouldn’t understand, but really, really hoping he would not eat her.
The wolf was the first one out and Ami could hear the growls of the rest of the pack. Maybe she should just stay here, she thought to herself.
The alpha-male came back to look down into the hole they had dug and gazed deep into Ami’s eyes. It was then she knew it was okay to come out.
She worked her way out of the snow refuge that had protected her and the wolf and into the daylight and brisk mountain air. The pack then surrounded her as before, but this time there wasn’t any snarling and snipping, they just stood there panting as the alpha-male came up to her. He nudged Ami along in a direction of what would turn out an hour later to be where she had left the Hansel and Gretel trail. It would have been a sight to behold seeing this young girl surrounded and protected by a pack of wolves, but no one saw, no one would ever know. Ami believed no one would believe her story and left that part out as her concerned mother attended to the bump on the back of Ami’s head.

Ami came back to the ski lodge the next season. She was eighteen now and could come and go as she pleased. The lodge had only one cabin available far from the others and she rented it for the weekend. She continued her ski lessons that day. She mastering some of its skills and progressed past the Hansel and Gretel trail and onto an intermediate one.
She was very tired that night and went to bed early, but was awoken a few hours later by an insistent scratching at the cabin door.
To be continued?

What is Art? It’s more like what you believe Art is to you. I believe Art has many mediums an artist can use to express their creativity and depth of feeling. What a spectator sees as Art is up to that individual's tastes and their acceptance to new ideas. Art may hang on private walls, hotel lobbies, or foyers of museums gathering dust or be as fleeting as a mime's antics in a park. Great art is what makes you suddenly step back in awe, to ruminate on the artist's message, to rip apart your ideology and lay it bare before you like a blank jigsaw puzzle you need to rearrange to become whole again.

...and the universe opened up before him, a rift between life, physics, and of what is, was, or will be. Into the dark abyss he spiralled seeing gray shapes of his past as if watching some bizarre silhouette puppet show being played out before him. Down down down he went legs and arms flailing as he tried to control his descent. Time had no place here, an endless nothingness, an intimate relationship with infinite realities yet to be born.

Old friends are little treasures we safely tuck away, unlike like our enemies we keep at bay. Old friends are always ready, and never lost, unlike money or old shoes, old friends are neither spent nor ever tossed. They be here for us and us for them, when the time is right they just show up, and that’s just the way it is.

Sometimes you have to devote your whole being when your journey suddenly ends at a crossroad. Deciding which road is a detour, weighing your odds for this road or another. Standing at the precipice of your destiny, the harsh cold forbidding winds of fate blowing hard against coat and hat as you lean in and take that first step forward.

I forgotten over the decades that a summer class is a whole semester crammed into a month. Teresa even has a hydraulics class in the evening. She drive home after the 9-12 EMR class and drives to the college class at around 6pm I think. She looked mighty tired today, but she is a real trooper. I spent a scathing four hours completing the test of two-hundred questions and missed thirteen of them which I found out later wasn’t that bad, an A. The time was up would be up at midnight to redo the Midterm, but I was too tired after doing the Final Exam to really care. At least I don’t have to worry about doing the Final Exam at the end of the course.

May 2016

Saturday 07- I just got back from a month's stay in Torrance... I had to take care of my Dad and Stepmother who are 93 and 92. I finally convinced them to sell their house and go into a rest home (a lot more to the story)... So they're in a very nice rest home being taken care of and the house should sell for a nice price so they won't need to worry about the future.

Sunday 08- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Monday 09- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I worked in the yard getting most of the large pieces of wood from my old roof of some 20 years ago into the dumpster for them to pick up tomorrow; fill the whole dang dumpster to the top.

Tuesday 10- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I drew something: my home.

My HP laptop froze on startup after doing a Microsoft Security Update. I tried several different ways to get it going, but none worked. Thankfully I am good at keeping things backed up and decided to do a clean install and wipe the whole drive. Took awhile to complete, but now I can give it away to my Dad.

Wednesday 11- I did my stretches, too hot to go for a jog with Cassie.

Went to sherry’s house and we did our shopping whiles the dogs chased each other in the backyard.

Thursday 12- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I worked in the yard and around the house fixing this and that.

I was going to edit a chapter of “Desolation” but found out MS Office for my Mac had expired... I decided not to mess around with anything else and bought a year’s subscription to MS Office 365. I had to reinstall the whole program over again, but this version is a bit better than my old 365 I had on my Macbook Air.

Friday 13- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Saturday 14- I did my stretches but it was too hot for me and Cassie to go for a jog.

Got to work clearing up the remains of the old roof out back... still a bit more to do.

I edited Chapter 11 of “Desolation” and posted it to FaceBook for my friends to read.

Took Cassie for an evening jog when it wasn’t so hot.

Sunday 15- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

Cassie and me went for an evening jog.

Monday 16- I did my stretches and took cassie for a walk.

I continued to cleanup the yard raking up all the little pieces of splintered roofing wood and nails putting them in the dumpster that is quickly running out of room.

I took Cassie for an evening walk.

Tuesday 17-  I did my stretches and took Cassie for a short walk.

I went to WalMart... got a haircut there and did some shopping.

Worked some on the edit of chapter 12 of “Desolation”.

I thought it over and decided to take the Emergency Medical Responder class at the college on June 13th. It’ll start at 9am and go until 11:45am 4 days a week for a month. I just felt I needed this class.

Wednesday 18- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I drew something: a strange looking face.

I practiced my guitar for a short spell.

Edited chapter 12 of “Desolation” and posted it to FaceBook.

I finished reading chapter 10 on volcanism and extrusive rocks.

I started reading April’s chapter in “365 Starry Nights” and have a ways to go to get caught up.

Thursday 19- very windy!

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a mile jog with Cassie.

I drew something: a park ranger, well it looked like a park ranger when I got done.

I spent most of the day trying to register for an Emergency Medical Responder Course at Copper Mountain College. I made up my mind to just go for it and attend the class late last night. It’ll be for only a month; June 13 to July 13, 4 days a week Mon-Thurs from 9am to 11:50am. I'll have to radically change my sleeping habits for this class... can't be 10 o'clock Bob anymore for a spell. I went through the online enrollment and had to print out a worksheet I had to fill out, take a picture of and then email it back to admissions. I called admissions and they got the pics of the worksheet, but now I need to send them a copy of my AA degree to satisfy the reading 51 requirement, so I sent her a picture of my AA. She said she will email a form so I can take this “one class only” without having to go thru anymore requirements. So I had to print that out too and sign it and take a picture and send it back to them. That’s how we do online registration now a days. I bought the textbook on Amazon; set me back $120 some dollars. I still need to purchase a manual blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, and a pen light. Now the funny thing is that I now have an educational email address and the college uses Outlook 365, so when I went to check if there was any email a notification popped up saying since I was a student I could get MS Office 365 for free; I wish I knew that a few days ago when I paid $69 for Office 365!

Friday 20- I started changing my sleeping habits by waking up at 7:30am and will continue doing this until I finish the class on July 13th.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I drew something: a profile of a man’s head.

I was supposed to have my textbook for the EMR class delivered today, but it never came. I paid extra for the one-day delivery and called Amazon and got a refund for that.

I edited and posted chapter 13 of “Desolation” on FaceBook.

Saturday 21- I did my stretches, lifted the 20lbs dumbbells and took Cassie for a mile jog.

Movie night!!!

Cassie and me will be there again to see all our friends and eat popcorn, hot dogs wrapped in bacon in a bun covered in that hot mayonnaise they have there, let's not forget those tit cookies, and stand around yammer on and on and laugh about how bad the film was (the last movie "Mesa of the Lost Women" was bad, very bad... only 1 star out of 999 votes on IMDB, but it was well worth braving the cold winds that night to be with the desert folks under the starry night skies that I love. Unfortunately it was a full Moon that night, but fortunately the Moon, Mars and Saturn danced together making a nice little triangle for us all to gaze upon and wonder what it's all about... the movie I'm talking about, not life.

Sunday 22- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk... my day off.

I edited and posted chapter 14 of “Desolation” on FaceBook.

Monday 23- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I edited and posted chapters 15 and 16 of “Desolation” on FaceBook for my Friends to read. This is the first edit of the book and I expect there’ll be a lot of errors to correct.

Tuesday 24- I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and a mile jog with Cassie.

Finally everything came together; my book for the class and the pump up blood pressure thingy and stethoscope came from Amazon after many delays. Then I made two calls to the college and they said the messup was on their side and I was able to enroll in my EMR class.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie.

I started reading the EMR textbook and will continue to read it until I am done and before the class begins on June 13th.

Wednesday 25- windy with rain!

I did my exercises.

Went shopping with Sherry while Cassie played with her friends Willey, Barney and Abby.

Thursday 26- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

UPS deliver my kit for the EMR class.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie.

Friday 27- I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells and went for one mile jog with Cassie.

Saturday 28- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sunday 29- I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie.

Monday 30- I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a mile jog with Cassie.

My current Amazon Prime account is due to expire on June 06, but I found out that I can get a student Amazon Prime account for 6 months for free and then continue for half price. So I sent them my college student email address and all is well.

I went for a evening mile jog with Cassie.

Tuesday 31- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

Two versions of the same poem below... one was too long and one that just didn’t say enough...

Long:

On the deck of subtle sorrows, be cast upon the seas of darkness, to sail blindly before the winds of treachery... stormy weather has prevailed.

Though strength is now our greatest weakness, to plow corporate fields for paltry rewards. They subjugate our populace for their corporate pleasures, and drag us under to dance as puppets, to that same old tune as was played before.

They squash and plunder all creativity and imagination, until their coffers are filled high with greed and hatred, until the planet’s resources are all dried up, and our free will that once was, is no more.
So please spare thy simple requests of absolution, spare us all your idiosyncrasies and delusions, that floats along with the rising tide, but share with us your reflections of independence, share with us your pride and sanity, wipe that sweaty corporate grime off your brow, or ye shall be doomed to a voyage under tyranny.

I claim to have no quick solutions, but to spit in the face of freedom’s aggressors, and ask ourselves are we to blame.

I stopped watching the Network News a long time ago. I don't want to be fed, I want to absorb the news from different sources, but it's all the same, it never changes, 10, 20 years, 40 years... it's all the same BS: wars, murder, rape, lost dogs... it never changes... you can still see the graffiti written on the walls of buildings and passageways in Pompeii; a city that was blasted off the face of the Earth almost two thousand years ago..

If there are any intelligent minded elected officials with a bit of common sense left in our Congress, they must have been squashed by the rhetoric of radical zealots, out spent by the greed of the money grabbers, or just bored to tears by the stupidity and ignorance of everyone else surrounding them.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

I am trying to do what I have to do, I already did what I wanted to do, so now when I get to doing what I was supposed to be doing in the first place I'll get to what I needed to do when I'm done doing that.
~RD

This poem I almost didn't share.

I feel I should/must maintain some sort of balance between good and evil, love and hate, greed and charity, life and death or become dull in my writings... good doesn't always prevail over evil. If I wrote about unicorns and fairy-dust all the time, I and everyone else would become bored:

Dreadful sobs of tormented sorrow pulse heavily from painful chest within, deepest are my rage of delusions stemming from Original Sin, that foul and noxious putrid odor that darkens what moral soul I have, sordid spittle from temple’s pulpit hides reality from those who seek, so blind are the lost and faithful who follow set path like timid sheep, those who came forward, honest and weak, those who had faith in what they believe, that the skies shall just open up as if to suck up their sins, I will cry for the passing of all my dear friends...  never to see them... never ever again.

~RD

Hoof Prints in the sky

What happened to the unicorns prancing merrily in the heath, they been gone from the paddock, missing from the moor, are they hiding in the hinterlands because they come to us no more. Pixie rings and fairy dust, magic wands we use  to track, but they have taken to the skies and they are never coming back. With careful eye to see their path, a great labor we shall undertake, to look beyond the mountains, above the fairy dale, and if we are very lucky, and fate is on our side, shall ye see upon a cloudy day their hoof prints in the sky.

March 2016

March 2016

Tuesday 01- 84 to 54 mostly sunny.

I was doing my stretches and yoga when Sherry called to say her car still wasn’t working after a friend charged her battery last night. I asked her if I could come by and see if I can fix it. I checked her battery with my voltmeter and it registered at 12.24 VDC, but when I had her start the engine it dropped to 11 VDC and died. I brought my truck around and jumped start the battery and got her engine started. I wanted to see if she had a bad alternator so while the engine was still running I disconnected the battery and the engine kept running, meaning that the battery was bad and not the starter or the alternator, but I wasn’t sure that the alternator was actually charging the battery. This I did later when we put the new battery in and the alternator was charging the battery at 14.5 VDC.

We went and picked up the new battery, had breakfast/lunch/dinner at the all you can eat Chinese Restaurant and went shopping at WalMart while Cassie played with her friends Barney, Abby and Willy in Sherry’s backyard.

On the way back home I saw a large meteor streak across the sky 45 degrees overhead towards the northeast while I was headed north. It was a bright green in color leaving little puffs behind.

Then me and Jimmy loaded the trailer up with old tires that their evicted renter, and probably their last renter, had been collecting on the property. When we were done we visited and jawed for a long spell catching up on our lives. Jimmy and Clarice will take the old tires to the community clean-up in Sunfair on Saturday.

I then left and worked on my yard tossing a whole bunch of junk away and cleaning up a pile of broken glass out of windows frames someone had brought over ten years ago without asking me if I wanted them. Kinda like, “Here’s some windows for you,” and just dropping them off.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

Oh sweet child my Amberlyn, pouty lips ride above dimpled chin... rosy cheeks that grace the day, that’s my bonny Amberlyn.

She wears no makeup painted upon her face, why conceal such beauty that would hide beneath, she’s as genuine and fresh as a mountain stream that runs its course into the raging seas.

Yellow threadbare dress hangs down to her skinny knees, it flutters in the summer breeze, plain and simple for all to see, that’s my bonny Amberlyn...

A tattered felt hat reigns up high on pixie ears where flowers rest, patches adorn old denim vest, a small gold chain holds a peace sign between modest breasts, the calming smell of jasmine completes her scent.

She masters each obstacle that stands in her way, to save the Earth she likes to say, with all her effort she’ll embrace that day, cause that’s how I’ll always remember my sweet sweet bonny Amberlyn.

Brittle leaves once green and glittered with shine, now colored to golden reds and yellows have now fallen away, to float so lightly to the ground on a harsh winter’s day. Hedgehogs nestle in nests built of twigs and leafs cuddling their young, waiting through winter’s fury for the warmth of the sun.

The creek is now frozen, there’s snow on the ground, the night has grown silent, cause the snow dampens the sounds.

An owl swoops in searching the night, upon barren branch it perched in the haloed moon light, alert is heighten as wide eyes seek, small prey that stay hidden and not wanting to be eat, to starve off hunger and last through the cold of another winter’s day, the owl moves on, the hedgehogs are safe.

The sun makes its appearance, the air begins to warm, white snow has melted that once covered the ground, is finding its way to the creek that now babbles on. The wait for spring is not far away, as sprouts crack through once frozen earth to give birth to a new day.

That day has arrived, spring has appeared, with chirping of birds and buzzing bees, life has arisen and flourishes in the trees, that are now covered in their new shiny green dress, and the hedgehogs with their young have come safely out from their nests.

The owner said the by-in just to sale Trek was $30,000 and his shop was too small to afford that, but he had others I looked at. One was a fat bike that I took for a spin, I mean this thing had some monstrous tires on it and I road through some soft dirt without a problem; $1200 was the only problem.

Then I went to WalMart and did my shopping and got a haircut while I was there. I bought a 32 inch Vizio television that can connect to wifi and has HDMI.

It is potluck day! I cooked up a pot of rice and brought a box of cookies with me. I signed and gave away a few “Azure Sea of Dreams” to my friends at potluck. I kept calling out between bites to everyone that the food was really great. Unfortunately, I got so involved in a conversation with Charles, Dave and Pat that I didn’t notice the time and missed out on getting seconds of the fantastic food. It was probably just as well because by the time I arrived home I realized how full I really was. Dave told me earlier that he was having problems with his fuel system so I followed him home; he only lives just around the block... about a mile.

Monday 29- 83 to 56

I went to sleep at 3am and Cassie woke me up at 6am to go outside like she does every morning, but this time I couldn’t co back to sleep and laid there until 7qm and decided to just get up and my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I finally got my HP G72 17” laptop to upgrade to Windows 10. I tried multiple times before and it would go for hours and just die and revert back to Win 7. So I installed Win 10 using a USB thumb drive this time and it is working just fine.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie.

I finally cut the branch that was growing too close to my WIFI antenna; got that off my To Do list.

I drew something: an odd looking cat.

I read more of the geology book I haven’t wrote down what chapter or what’s it about.

I played my guitar for a spell still working on a certain rhythm I made up.

I finished Chapter 4 and will begin chapter 5 tomorrow.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went night jog with Cassie.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

Dim has the Earth become, not as bright as yesterday's, a bit of gray replaced this light, once shining brightly from a friend who passed away....

~RD

Writing is a creative art where words come from our heart and the darkest depths of our being, to take twenty-six letters of the alphabet and turn them into some kind of meaning, and if by chance we arrange them just right they may be worth your reading.

~RD

Stop focusing so much on who you are but on what you can become.

~RD

High above some lofty forest, shadows cover moonless midnight, bleak depression settles into madness, a deeper darkness shall you not fear. Passionate sorrows harvest what’s left of my life, it withers away at pitted soul. Deeply entrenched my vile desires, retained against a fortress of trepidation, now released upon an unknowing world.

Blighted coldness and worms do creep, over old bones of what’s left of me, for now it be said that I have fled and the laughter has ceased to be. Angst and regret crust over wounds running deep and eyes of wonder sparkle no more. Love has trickled away from once mortal life, and keeps me from loving thee.

~RD

When I go out at night I bask in the light of a billion stars and some of that light is from galaxies millions of light years away. Most I cannot see with my naked eyes, but I know their light is out there to be seen, you just have to know where to look.

~RD

They call me 10 o’clock Bob around here. I’ve been a night person all my life and would fall asleep in class in grade school and high school and had very lousy grades. No one understood why I had bad grades because supposedly I scored high on the mandatory IQ test they had us take. It wasn’t until I went to college that I excelled because I had planned my classes during the afternoon and evening hours and did my homework while working on a graveyard shift. I think kids with the same problem as I could benefit by getting up later in the day for school, but until our school system discovers that one size does not fit all when it comes to circadian rhythms, kids will be likely to fail and be called lazy as I was. Yes, 7am is an ungodly hour for some of us!

We always end up where we’re supposed to be given the choices we make, be it a nine to five job, bringing up a family, writing and publishing books or homeless in some dank dark back alley covered in cardboard cuddled up with our last bottle of cheap wine. Everyone has a chance to excel, but not everyone takes it.

Kelly called and needed her tire fixed. So I went over to her house and worked on it. She didn’t have a tire iron so I couldn’t take the tire off, I would have to plug it with it still on the car. We jacked it up, inflated the tire with my air pump, but couldn’t find a nail or any place it was leaking air from. I had her get some soap and water and brush and I splashed the tire with the concoction. It started bubbling from where the rim connects to the tire and I could see a dent in the rim where she may have hit a curve or something. So she needs a new rim. It’s a slow leak and will hold air until she gets to WalMart later today. I told her to get that green fix a flat stuff to seal the leak until she gets a new rim. She also needs to get a tire iron and air pump.

A review I left on Amazon for the TP-Link range extender (Technical stuff ahead)

It worked for a few months and then I couldn't connect. The website the instructions told me to connect to "tplinkextender.net" has a damn virus! Another website I was directed to "tplinkconnect.net" was for sale! I finally ended up at http://tplinkrepeater.net and still couldn't get into the device. It seemed it just stopped transmitting its wi-fi signal.... I did a reset on the device and was able to receive a signal and then was able to log into tplinkrepeater.net as admin with my Mac Air. It was almost finished when a popup said my Adobe Flash was out of date. I didn't click on that and closed the browser. I decided to try reseting it and try again on a different computer running Win 10. I got it to load up and there wasn't any popups for outdated flash, but a weird search site replaced the TP-Link site. I shut down my browser and opened it again, no problem. I went and connected my desktop ethernet cable into the TP-Link Range Extender and I was connected to the internet, but when I opened the browser it said I have a virus and to call the number they provided for tech help. I couldn't open another tab. I closed the browser without clicking on the notice and unplugged the ethernet cable and restarted my desktop. I opened up the browser and the notice popped up again. So now I have some kind of malware I have to deal with all because I used TP-Link's websites to get access to their device! I am dumping this and getting something a little more dependable...

Sherry came by to visit with Cassie and fed her a bunch of dog biscuits.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a mile run with Cassie.

I did a reset of Windows 10 on the desktop to be rid of whatever the system caught when I tried to connect to the TP-Link website. I’ll just connect the desktop to an ethernet cable hooked to my router instead of the TP-Link WiFi Extender. Another time waster I am not going to deal with again. It’s too late to send it back, but I might just send it back to the company and tell them to shove it.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a nice long walk, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sunday 24- 60 to 41 degrees.

The rain had stopped for a spell and I decided to do my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening jog with Cassie. Unfortunately the wind picked up as we went for the job and as we jogged across the crest of the hill, little pieces of sand and grit was hitting me in the face and stung when they hit.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

I treat dogs and people alike... some will smile while some may bite.

~RD

I feel like I am stuck in a carnival surrounded by clowns and carnies; barkers shouting out their persuading pleas of solicitations to entice me away from my life’s calling and divert me into some shady tent for a dog and pony show. All the while, off in the distance, the dim sounds of a fading parade reach out and beg for my attention.

~RD

Green with fluorescence that rips across cresting waves, white is the ocean that pounds upon the shore. The sea sweeps over castles built of grainy sand, but a love can last forever, when a heart is gently cradled, sitting on a beach in silence, holding hand in hand. Your eyes sparkle with Moonbeams as we gaze into the night, hair that glistens with stardust, when I run my fingers through their lovely locks. Moist lips and eager cuddling that first kiss brings has begun, when I hold you closely, our heartbeats come as one.

These are memories I cherish, whenever I think of you, I tingle in delight with the love we kindled, and the love that we had. If I ever fall, I shall rise back upon my feet, for such a love conquers all, from whatever darkness seeks.

~RD

I lie in silence upon my bed, as cold sweat flowed down from my head, to drip and soak on silken sheets, frozen with fear the death I may meet. A feeling of grief, a wave of sorrow, has shaken me right down to my marrow. A dream of  dread, still lingers and seeps, had woken me from this horrid sleep. I am startled, I am stunned when a tap tap tapping at my door begun, then a foreboding cry I heard echo off darken walls within... Lenore! Lenore! Never more!

Tuesday 08- 75 to 49 degrees. A nice sunny day.

A day off exercising! My chest muscle isn’t as painful as last night; I think it was caused by the new type of pull ups I am trying to ease myself into.

I removed the burned out tail light and replaced it with a new one. I unhung my front door that kept scraping against the floor and took a saw to the bottom to cut a quarter of an inch off. The door closes fine and doesn’t rub against the floor.

Wednesday 09- 76 to 50 degrees.

I woke up and me and Cassie went to visit Sherry and her dogs, Barry, Abby and Willie. While Cassie was out playing with the gang, me and Sherry went shopping and ate lunch/dinner at the Asian Buffet. Sherry gave me a bed she didn’t need any longer along with some sheets and blankets. Like always, Cassie was very tired after her visit playing with her fur friends and slept all the way home and the rest of the night.

Thursday 10- 54 to 49 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a 1 mile jog. Note: I am not going to time myself the the new watch thingy anymore because it’s just too demanding to keep a log here on it.

I took the old crummy mattress that must had been pre WWII and threw it into the dumpster. I moved the new bed into the bedroom and set it up after giving the bedroom floor a good cleaning. Very nice to be sleeping on a comfortable bed.

Saturday 12- 60 to 36 degrees.

Geminid Meteor Shower: Very clear where I am (and cold) saw a bunch here and there when I went out with Cassie so she could do her business. Should be better tomorrow night.

Sunday 13- 61 to 35 degrees, windy all day with clouds moving in during the late afternoon.

Geminid Meteor Shower: Went out again Sunday night (just got back in 1:30AM)... saw more meteors then I think I've ever seen in one sitting. Dang cold too!

Sunday 20- 56 to 37 degrees with clouds throughout the day, but cleared in the evening.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walks.

I put the frame together and mounted the telescope. I took it outside into the night sky where it saw first light. I adjusted the finder scope, checked out that everything was in order and turned her 8” mirror onto Andromeda Galaxy and a few other objects. There was hardly any adjusting to do and I didn’t even have to collimate the main mirror. A car had just drove past at high speeds on our dirt road when I was having the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I got worried about dust from the road and packed her up and put her safe inside the house. I will have to devise a plan to keep the dust out of the DOB when outside.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, took Cassie for a 1 mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

Tuesday 22- 66 to 46, very windy and cloudy today. The strong winds woke me up several times during the night when part of my garage roof came apart and I had to go out to fix it. I finally got to sleep and didn’t wake up until 1pm... My whole day was gone before it started.

It was after nightfall and I took Cassie out to go pee when I saw my neighbor’s truck go up the embankment and get stuck there. I saw that she wasn’t going to get it out herself so I got my shovel, threw it in the back of my truck and went over and dug her out. It only took me about ten minutes, no more and she was on her way.

Wednesday 23- 62 to 40 degrees mostly sunny.

We went to Sherry’s house to go shopping for supplies at Stater Bros. and sacks of dog food at the Tractor Supply store while Cassie played with her fur friends.

Thursday 24- 61 to 38 degrees, cloudy.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a 1 mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

Friday 25- 45 to 29 degrees, very windy and cold outside.

I got a telescope and microscope that Santa Claus... err UPS and FedEx brought me.

Me and Cassie stayed inside and watched TED Talks on YouTube and other interesting stuff.

Saturday 26- 46 to 30 degrees, just as cold and windy as yesterday if not worse.

We stayed inside again because of the high winds.

I started going through my boxes of old receipts, bills paid, from as far back as 1997 when I moved up here; some even older from the 70s. It was many boxes packed one upon another taking up my space and adding to the clutter that seems to be affecting my progress. I sat there for three days tossing this and that, I mean who needs to keep a telephone bill from June 2001? I kept all my tax filings, correspondence, birthday, holiday Christmas cards, photos, and little mementos to remind me of those lost to me throughout the years, but the rest went into my woodstove and kept my home warm for three days. I do not know why I kept all these receipts and such; it was kinda like I felt some corrupt entity was waiting, watching for a weak moment to take everything from me. Or maybe I was just lazy, but I now took heed to these words I heard spoken once before, “If you don’t clean up your mess eventually someone else will have to do it for you.” I now feel free of this baggage whose weight weighed heavy on my soul.

Sunday 27- no wind finally! Still a bit cold.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a 1 mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

Monday 28- 53 to 35 degrees mostly sunny.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for all her walks.

I had to go to the dentist office because a screw worked its way out of my implant. I left my house early and went to the post office to pick up some packages there and then shopping at Stater Bros before my dentist appointment.

Tuesday 29- 54 to 33 sunny.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

Wednesday 30- 53 to 30 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

Thursday 31- 53 to 29 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

I finished reading “365 Starry Nights” by Chet Raymo.

I'm getting ready to go for a run up the hill in front of my house in 2015 and run back down it in 2016... I think it's a good way to run out the old and bring in the new

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

Do not abandon your dreams.

A new year is upon you. A time for reflection. To re-evaluate and renew what works and let go of what doesn't, be they things, people or addictions. Walk away from their drama to make room for new beginnings. Eliminate those distraction seizing control of your life, carrying you farther off your course to flounder in the gray turbulent seas of uncertainty and denial to become the flotsam and jetsam washed upon the shores of self-pity and doubt. Make your destiny your own, follow your dreams and no others.

A steady hand on the tiller, a cup of hot coffee to fight off the chill, a stiff breeze to fill her sails, and a warm bed to come back to is all I ask.

The beginnings of a Poem Story?

Come along ye children let me recite thee all a tale, of an enchanted land not too far over there. Deep in the forests, beyond civilization’s cold reach, surrounded by thickets of bramble and moss tapestry trees, lies a mystical clearing where fairies truly appear, so ye not be frighten cause there’s nothing to fear.

There be flowers always blooming, grass taller than you, where spring always lasts throughout the whole year. A stream runs on through it, as calm as you please, do ye hear water bubbling across rocks and small boulders in the sweet summer breeze?

Little girls with elfin ears slumber upon mushroom caps laden with goose down filled soft satin sacks. Each one is combing each other’s long golden hair spun from strains of diamonds which are precious, added silver for its shine and gold that be rare and so hard to find. Their hair glistens and sparkles filling the dark void which threatens to devour and to destroy, their small little meadow that they call home with such joy.

They comb as they watch and start laughing at the boys with three hoof toes go dancing and a prancing, and a clowning, speaking in rhyming prose. Singing and playing their flutes to find the right tune, which will impress and lure the girls lying pretty off of their shrooms, and into the meadows to enjoy in the fun and frolic together as if they were one.

I am lucky to remember what I said or what I thought I would have said if I said it.

My response to an article “Ebook Reader Innovation was Stagnant in 2015”:

Well they haven’t upgraded the paperback for many decades now. Still no backlighting, same antiquated way to turn the page, and the memory storage hasn’t been improved since the papyrus era and takes up much wall space (good for insulation). My biggest complaint is you can’t change the font size and the pages yellow over time. Paperbacks tend to lose bookmarks if you drop them, but the dogeared ones stay put. The good news is that the page refresh hasn’t been affected since neolithic times.

I met a homeless woman sitting on blankets in front of Walmart with her little dog. I noticed people walking past her trying to avoid eye contact. I went in and did my shopping and came out the same door hoping to see her. She was still there and I stopped and asked her if she wanted anything from McDonalds. She wanted fries and a coke and she watched my groceries for me while I went inside. I chatted with her for a long spell to find out her story, as newspaper columnist like you and me like to do. It was a sad story about how she fell off her horse and broke her back a few years ago. She lost her job at the Eisenhower Hospital, has to take these horrible meds for pain, and her boyfriend had just kicked her and her dog out and she is now living in her car. I gave her ten dollars. I would have liked to have done more.

More should be done... there shouldn't be any homeless people in America unless they want to be (I've met a few fellow Veterans like that).

There is a lot of land out here where the homeless could setup tents or have them provided in a safe environment. Maybe purchase a large lot and work with the county to get around some of the code restrictions. There should be state, county and federal service counseling for programs that they qualify for, on site.

I believe it can be done if we want to do it... or maybe it's just me fantasizing; I do a lot of that.
