August 2016

Monday 01- 112 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted the 20lb weights, took Cassie for a one mile jog.

Cassie and me out for a ride this evening on my new Sondors Ebike

Tuesday 02- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Wednesday 03- 112 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

We went to Sherry’s so she and I could go shopping while Cassie played with her friends. We did shopping and had linder (lunch/dinner) at the Sizzler.

Thursday 04- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Friday 05- 104 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for her morning and evening walk.

Saturday 06- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, took Cassie for short walk, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sunday 07- 108 degrees.

I did my stretches and yoga. Took Cassie for her walks.

Tonight I sat in my camping chair under a beautiful starry night. I was looking through my Celestron 15X70 Skymaster binoculars watching as the waxing crescent Moon sank behind and beneath the San Bernardino Mountains near to the west revealing pine trees and boulders on the ridges. I then turned to see Mars in Scorpio where it outshines Antares which is sometimes mistaken for Mars; it’s a good time to compare the two.

I alway find it hard to find the constellation Hercules, but I then recall it is between Corona Borealis and Vega; here you will find M13 the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules. In my 15X70 binoculars it appears as a tiny dust ball. In a decent telescope you will see somewhere around 300 thousand stars. M13 is 25 thousand light years away.

Later, I was looking for the coathanger asterism in the constellation Vulpecula when a meteor flashed across my binocular lens and it was the only meteor I saw tonight. The coat hanger asterism lies about four fingers at arm's length from the Constellation Aquila towards the bright star Vega. I like the coathanger asterism because it’s sometimes hard to find.

Monday 08- My Birthday! 105 degrees.

I did my stretches and lifted the 20lbs dumbbells and took Cassie for a walk.

I spent some time on FaceBook replying to all the birthday wishes my friends posted there.

I’ve been recently looking for a travel trailer and maybe do some traveling. I went to Yucca Valley to see one, but it wasn’t what I expected. We talked for a spell about the trailer and other things and I told them it is my birthday today. The lady who was selling the trailer, and her Mom and Dad sang happy birthday to me! I taken by their kindness I gave the lady a signed copy of “Azure Sea of Dreams”.

I then went to WalMart to get my haircut and a roasted chicken to share with Cassie.

Tonight was hazy with the smoke from the Pilot Fire in the San Bernardino Mountains. I smelled it last night around 1am and went outside to see if it was a nearby house on fire, but didn’t see any signs of a fire at all. Also the Moon seemed brighter tonight as it shined on the suspended smoke particulates, so the seeing wasn’t all that good. I did see three satellites; one was a tumbling piece of space debris.
I noticed that Cassiopeia was up way to the northeast. By following a string of stars, about a fist length from the brightest pointy tip of the sideways “M” southeast (at this time). And as you follow these stars you have to drop down a bit till you find three stars in a straight row that almost lead right to the Andromeda Galaxy. I always use this method when seeing is poor to find the galaxy, but I am sure there are other better ways of finding it. You can actually see the Andromeda Galaxy on a clear night with the naked eye if you don’t look straight at it and use the rods of your eyes instead of the cones. This technique is called Averted Vision. The Andromeda Galaxy being 2.4 million light years away is the farthest object you can see with the unaided eye.
I was about to go back inside when a very bright orange yellow meteor zipped out of the southwest almost making its way to Cygnus before it vaporized leaving behind a very nice translucent tail to rapidly fade into the darkness.

The winds have shifted and I can smell the fire again. I am wondering if my CERT team will be activated.

Tuesday 09- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for her walks.

Wednesday 10- 104 degrees.

I did my stretches, yoga, and took Cassie for a mile jog.

Thursday 11- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk and then went to my Doctor’s appointment. The Doc is setting me up for all the test and shots I need for the EMT class I may take next spring semester.

I stopped at the Health Club and registered for their Silver Sneaker program that my new health insurance covers.

We actually had a cloud burst a little after 2pm and it rained for about fifteen minutes. Pretty cool to go out there and dance in the rain.

Cassie and I sat outside and watched the Perseid Meteor shower. I couldn’t stay up late because I had an appointment to go purchase a cargo trailer in Redlands and had to be there before 1pm.

Friday 12- 108 degrees.

I woke up early, took Cassie for a walk, and then drove down to Redlands 80 miles away to pick up a 6X10 cargo trailer that I will convert into a travel trailer. I was worried that I’d have trouble driving up the 62 hwy grade, but with one eye on the temp gauge and going a bit slower up the hill than I usually do I didn’t have any problems. It looks much bigger in person than it did online.

I took Cassie for a nice long evening walk.

Saturday 13- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sherry dropped by to say hi to Cassie and while we were yapping Roger Smith stopped by and we yapped some more in the heat blistering Sun beating down upon us.

Sunday 14- 111 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie short walk (it was 101 degrees by 10am), core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Monday 15- 113 degrees.

I did my stretches, worked out with the 20lb dumbbells and took Cassie for a walk.

Did some cleaning around the house; even with the swamp cooler pumping away it was still too hot to do much of anything.

Tuesday 16- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a short walk, too hot already this morning when we got started.

I drove to the college to check out the textbook for the Medical Terminology class. I decided right then and there that it would be too much added on to what I want to do to get my already written book “Desolation” edited and published.

Went to Stater Bros while I was out and picked up some chicken for me and Cassie.

Wednesday 17- 108 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, went for a one mile jog alone; just too hot (103 degrees) for Cassie to come along and I don’t think she minded one bit, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Thursday 18- 103 degrees.

I did my stretches.

Got a call from my Stepmother’s friend Smita telling me my Stepmother had passed away. I called to inform my Sisters of her passing. I wrote a poem for my Stepmother Aki who we all loved. She had made the decision to discontinue her chemo and went into hospice, so her passing was expected but still saddening.

Friday 19- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I then went down to Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage to have lunch with my sister Leeanne and our very good friend Robin. I found out after a few miles from my home that the air conditioner on the Cougar was not working and I was cooking all the way down to Rancho Mirage where it reached 114 degrees that day. I made it okay but felt a little off. We ate at the buffet and yammered on and on about this and that... getting up to date on things. We stayed there yakking for almost two hours until I started feeling out of sorts and decided it was time to say our goodbyes. I got out to the car, opened the door where a blast of hot air hit me and the insides were like a oven and I was the turkey needing basting. The steering wheel was hot to the touch all the way back home. I had to drive with the windows open, which wasn’t much help seeing it was over 110 outside. I had planned to do a little shopping when I got to Yucca Valley, but only got gas and drove on home. I was still sweating and that’s a good sign, but once home and out of the car I ran water from the garden hose all over my body to get me cooled off.

Only after the sun went down did I take Cassie for a walk.

Saturday 20- 107 degrees.

I did my exercises and took Cassie for a walk.

Later in the evening when it was cooler we went for a mile run.

Sunday 21- 93 degrees and cloudy; a few sprinkles in the morning!

I did nothing except take Cassie for her walks.

Monday 22- 101 degrees.

I did my stretches, core trainer, weight bench, and punched the heavybag for three minutes. Too hot for a walk or a run for Cassie and I decided not to go myself.

Tuesday 23- 99 degrees in 29Palms and 114 in Palm Springs.

I got up early and did my stretches.

I took Cassie over to Sherry’s to be among her own kind for a few days. I spent the day taking Sherry to the doctors and then to the ER at Desert Regional and didn’t get back home until 10:30pm. I left Cassie there for a ‘stay over’ and will pick her back up on Friday.

Wednesday 24- 101 degrees with haze.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, went for a mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

In the evening I rode the Sondors electric bike 6 miles!

Thursday 25- 103 degrees and hazy.

I did my stretches, yoga, went for a mile jog, exercised with the 10lbs dumbbells, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Friday 26- 100 degrees with clouds here and there.

I did my stretches, went for a mile jog and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I went to Yucca Valley to have some lab work done for the EMT class in spring semester. This is just in case I want to take the class I have to have it done.

I then went to WalMart to get a few supplies.

Cassie was staying at Sherry’s and I went to pick her up and have spaghetti that Sherry cooked up for me and Kathy that was mighty good.

Saturday 27- 93 degrees.

I did my stretches and me and Cassie went for a mile jog.

I went to Potluck and got pretty stuffed on the mighty fine grub there.

Venus Jupiter conjunction... I've been watching these two grow closer every night and thought I'd take a few pictures.

Sunday 28- 99 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a morning and evening walk.

Monday 29- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a morning and evening walk.

Tuesday 30- 107 degrees.

Went to Sherry’s and dropped Cassie off there so I can go to the lab in Yucca Valley to have some blood work done for the EMT registration requirements. I did some shopping at WalMart and then back to Sherry’s to help clean-up her yard (poop patrol)... I bought two California burgers at Carl’s Jr and some ice cream from Stater Bros to share with Sherry.

Wednesday 31- 103 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a short walk before I had to go to town in Twentynine Palms: Post office to pick up two packages, Stater Bros. to get a few things I missed yesterday and then on to the ER at hospital for a chest X-Ray; another EMT registration requirement.

Passive are the shallow waters, which runs beneath the realms of mortals, a sea without sympathy that observe our plight, as we silently slip beneath a shroud of darkness and into an abyss of eternal light.

They say if one door closes another opens... sometimes we may linger a little longer than we should... in a memory of what once was and seemed to always be, but now recognizing it never really was. Feeling not abandoned, but alone, yet smiling at your good fortune. I am comfortable with my solitude, but I still find myself standing in some damp darken corridor of my mind wishing this sealed door in front of me just might open a crack... allowing a small ray to bleed through, a bit of that sunshine of bliss I used to bathe in with thee, to shine upon my soul, to brighten these darken corridors of my mind once again...

July 2016

Friday 01- 102 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Studied and finished Chapter 26 and its quiz and then began chapter 27.

Saturday 02- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I went to the community first Saturday breakfast. I got there around 8am and started taking folk’s vitals for my EMR class. I needed to fill out the whole sheet with vitals for twenty some people, I had seven left to do and I got them all filled out and done.

I finished chapter 27 and all the quizzes. Now to work on the acronyms they use in the EMS field.

Sunday 03- 104 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I had to do a couple of rewrites for class. I started trying to remember all those darn acronyms.

Monday 04- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile run.

I did some studying of them acronyms, but I’m about burned out on the whole EMR studying thingy that I’ll just spend a little time on them today and do something other than studying and maybe play the guitar or whatever; besides I finished all the chapter tests... I just have the hands on test to complete and I believe we’ll be studying these in the rest of what’s left of the class.

I took Cassie for a nice long walk.

The internet went out so I ended up studying the EMR book anyways.

Tuesday 05- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches and me and Cassie went for a mile jog.

I went to class and we practiced bandaging and placing a patient on a backboard.

I took Cassie for a nice long walk.

Wednesday 06- 101 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I arrived at class at 8:20am. We trained on providing oxygen to a patient via HVM and NRM.

I went to Stater Bros to do some shopping but they overcharged me $45.00 for two chicken hindquarters. I didn’t notice the overcharge until I got home. I called them up and they said no problem just bring in the receipt. I will also bring in the now empty box of chicken too, just incase.

I took Cassie for a nice long walk.

Thursday 07- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog where she slipped her collar and ran off. Gosh, all these thoughts went through my mind about having to chase her down and missing class until I got her back, but I just sat down and called to her and she finally came to me. I petted her and told her what a good doggie she is.

I made it to class on time.

Friday 08- 103 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I studied for my hands-on exams.

Saturday 09- 101 degrees.

I studied for my hands-on exams.

Sunday 10- 105 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Studied...

Monday 11- 104 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for mile jog.

In class we did a simulated extraction from a car and also a medical emergency.

I took Cassie for her evening walk.

I studied for my hands-on exams.

Tuesday 12- 106 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

In class we started our hands-on exams with the Medical Emergency. I believe I did well. Tomorrow we will have the other hands-on tests that I keep practising in my head and watching the videos over and over.

I went to Stater Bros to get back my $45 they overcharged me for the two chicken hindquarters. I didn’t notice the overcharge until I got home

On the way home I was pulled over by an officer of the law for speeding... 74 in a55mph zone. I really didn’t noticed I was speeding because my mind was on other things like the on-hands exams of today and tomorrow, but I do believe him. He was very kind and since I wasn’t an ax murderer he let me off with a warning. He said he just wanted me to get home safely. I did have to sign the warning and he asked if I would display it in my car to remind me not to speed, because the next time he wouldn’t be so kind. I have the warning displayed on my visor now.

I took Cassie for her evening walk.

Linda came over to have me look at her Kindle Fire and see why it’s not charging. It was a bad USB cable and I gave her a new cable for it. She also gave me some avocados.

Wednesday 13- 107 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

It’s the last day of class and we had to pass three hands-on tests to get my EMR certificate. I was quite nervous, but passed all three. The three hands-on tests were; coming on scene with a victim lying on the floor... what steps do you take; how to correctly and quickly hook up an oxygen cylinder to a regulator, connect it to a non rebreather mask and apply it to the patient’s face; demonstrate correctly how to save a patient with a cardiac failure using CPR, face-to-mask, bag-valve-mask, OPA (oropharyngeal airway), use a suction device, and AED (automated external defibrillator). I think I did good. I had already received an A on the online test portion.

I went to the end of class barbecue at 5:30pm and mingled around with my classmates until 8pm. Everyone was dang happy the class was over, especially me.

Thursday 14- 108 degrees.

I did my stretches and got ready for me and Cassie to go visit her doggie friends at Sherry’s while her and me go do some shopping.

I had to take a friend to the ER down at Desert Regional in Palm Springs. I sat in the waiting room for two hours observing the sick people and the medical personnel working. I was talking or being talked to by a crazy person I was trying to get away from. Then to top it all off there was a young man, nicely dressed, but with gang tattoos, having been escorted outside by security. The guy wouldn’t leave and got down on his knees and was yammering something to the sky. The security had him there for almost an hour until police arrive. Then after another half an hour they handcuffed him to a wheelchair and brought him into the ER. I didn’t find out what his problem was because I had to deal with the guy who said he was good friends with the John F Kennedy. I didn’t get home until after 8pm. Sherry said it was okay if Cassie stayed with her dogs for a few days so she could lose a few pounds running and romping around.

Friday 15- 109 degrees.

I did my stretches, weight bench, yoga, went for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Saturday 16- 117 degrees.

Sunday 17- 112 degrees.

I did my stretches.

Monday 18- 107 degrees.

I did my stretches and then went to Copper Mountain College to pick up a packet, but the lady who hands out the packet wasn’t there. I will have to try again tomorrow.

I went to Sherry’s to pick up Cassie and Sherry made some mighty fantastically fine spaghetti which I ate two plate full and took some home. Cassie is on a diet and ain’t gonna get any.

Tuesday 19- 111 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I went to the college and picked up the packet for EMT, but the lady there said she didn’t think I’d have time to get all of what is required done before the start of the semester on Aug 15. There’s a full physical, a whole lot of shots, a background check, lab tests...

Wednesday 20- 116 degrees And Thursday 21- 117 degrees.

I did my stretches: too hot to do anything else...

Friday 22- 116 degrees.

I woke up early and went for a mile run, core trainer, punched the heavybag, and worked on the weight bench. Cassie isn’t feeling well and I had her stay inside while I did my exercises.

Linda’s car broke down on Coyote road and I went to help.

Saturday 23- 118 degrees Sunday 24- very hot indeed!

I didn’t do much these two days I can remember... just too dang hot to do anything.

Monday 25- 114 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

I am turning 65 next month and have to setup a provider with Medicare. I’ve been looking at two programs and decided on the one called Scan. I called the sales rep Christie and she asked to met me locally. I needed to do some shopping at Stater Bros so I told her Burger King would be just fine, but I needed an hour to clean up. She said that was perfect and she could wrap things up with her client she was with now. We met an hour later at BK and I signed up for the Scan program which gives me gym privileges at the local health club right there at the shopping center.

Tuesday 26- 113 degrees

I got up early and did my stretches, weight bench, went for a one mile jog with Cassie, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sonors Fat Bike arrived and I started to assemble it.

Lenovo Yoga 11E arrived and I got it all fixed up with the latest updates.

Went to take Cassie for a walk, but the delivery person left the gate open and she was gone like a paycheck in Vegas. I could chase her down and I knew if I paid her no attention she’d come back. So I went back to working on the bike. She came up to me in fifteen minutes and licked my leg.

Wednesday 27- 117 degrees

I did my stretches, exercised lifting 20lbs dumbbells, and took Cassie for a mile jog. Stayed in the house the rest of the day to keep cool.

Thursday 28- 116 degrees.

I did my stretches, core trainer, and went on a mile jog with Cassie.

I posted this on FaceBook seeking friend’s opinions:

The Fork in the Road
I've been busy the last couple of weeks trying to decide on a few things. It’s also been very hot here. There are two things I need to decide between doing: should I continue on the path towards EMT or get back to what I was doing before I took the EMR class; I was writing poems and books. I have 8 books self-published on Amazon, another I’m still editing, and I need to do a rewrite of them all, weave them altogether until I feel comfortable, re-publish and then sink a few bucks into promoting them.
The EMT part of my problem is that it’s something I’m interested in because I like helping people, but I am going to be 65 on the 8th, so to what end will the EMT be helpful... I really don't need a job in it. The EMR class gave me enough knowledge to save lives and get the patient ready for transport.
My biggest problem is that I can only focus on one Big thing at a time; I tend sink my whole being into these “Big Things”... little things I can deal with mostly, but it’s EMT or rewriting my books :)
I am not trying to impress you, I’m just trying to make you see my problem... kinda like using you as a sounding board. That's what people do, that’s how we help each other. Writing this to you helps me put this all down into words and is already helping me come to a decision. The fall semester starts Aug 15 and I won’t be able to take the EMT class this fall, but maybe a medical terminology class and then EMT come spring semester, so I need to come to a decision.

Friday 29- 116 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

I spent two hours writing my friend Ami-Ven a birthday story. She has been doing this on her blog for many years for her friends, so the last couple of years I decided to return the favor.

Saturday 30- 114 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a morning walk.

I went to the community Potluck and we all got pretty full on the mighty fine grub everyone brought. Charles called to say he couldn’t make it that his car broke down in Yucca Valley at the Big O Tire. I went after potluck to give him a ride home.

Sunday 31- 112 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

Charles called to ask if I’d pick him up and take him down to Yucca to pick up his car; I said yes and drove him to Big O where they had fixed his car. It turned out to be a bad alternator and needed to be replaced.

Goodbye July. You’ve been a very interesting month with the EMR class where I met new people and found that I still had it in me at the college level.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

A young Ami Ven went on a ski trip with her family to the Rocky Mountains. While the rest of her “expert skiing family” went off on the ski lodge’s many trails and ski runs, Ami, being this was her first time skiing adventure was forced to take a one-hour instruction class with a bunch of little kids. Her Mom, being a very protective Mom, had put so much insulation between Ami and the elements that she became so stiff she kept falling on her behind trying to learn the maneuvers their instructor was teaching. The younger children in the class seemed to enjoy Ami’s antics persistently laughing at her when she fell. To make matters worse after the class was through she was restricted to the Hansel and Gretel ski trail.
She went up and down the trail a few times. It was made easy to get back to the top grabbing onto the continuous rope-tow connected to a large red spinning wheel at the summit and a smaller one at the bottom.
The Hansel and Gretel ski trail was yellow taped off so the young skiers wouldn’t wander off trail, but one section of tape had been torn by a deer during the night’s heavy snowfall and was missing. This is where Ami made her grand exit from the beginner’s trail and out into the freezing cruel wilderness of the Rockies.
After a spell Ami noticed the rope-tow wasn’t where she expected it to be. She called out for help… nothing… she yelled… not a sound… she screamed until her lungs almost froze from inhaling the frigid dry air… growling, snarling, and yelping sounds came from the tree line just above her; a pack of wolves! The pack started slowly down the snow packed ridge towards her carefully sniffing the air.
Ami made a run for it and skied down the steep mountain slope as the wolves gave chase. Missing this tree and that rock, Ami thought she might have a chance of getting away, but a large boulder was planted right in her path and what she saw beyond it was a great fall of hundreds of feet and unquestionably death.
The wolves now had her encircled where she stood in front of the giant boulder with her ski poles pointed at them as they snarled, and snapped at her and each other. The alpha-male decided he wanted first pickings of Ami and turned towards the others with raised hair and yellow teeth showing. So fierce was the alpha’s glare that a young male skittered off whimpering with tail between his legs.
As the alpha-male was about to make his leap onto a frightened Ami, he suddenly stopped. There was a rumbling, the ground shook beneath Ami’s feet, and then darkness.
It was cold and dark and the back of her head hurt. She didn’t know how long she’d been out or which way was up or down, at least at first. She took her glove off and felt around. Ami discovered she was in a small crevasse of the boulder. Her back was against it and she could feel where it slanted up. She continued searching and felt something like a rug was lying next to her; the alpha-male!
He wasn’t moving. His head was buried under the snow of the avalanche that apparently struck them. Without a thought, Ami dug out the head of this wild creature of the mountains. His breathing was faint, but he was alive. She pulled him next to her to keep them both warm.
When the wolf finally woke he growled and snarled at Ami as she was petting him. He then settled down for a little while as Ami talked soothingly and continued petting.
“Okay Mister Wolf, we need to get out of here before we use up all the oxygen.”
With her broken ski pole she began digging into the snow above and next to the boulder. She kept clawing and digging at the packed snow to get free. Then the wolf figured it out and together they both dug and clawed until finally they broke through to see the brilliant blue of the mountain sky.
“Now don’t you eat me Mister Wolf,” Ami said knowing the wolf wouldn’t understand, but really, really hoping he would not eat her.
The wolf was the first one out and Ami could hear the growls of the rest of the pack. Maybe she should just stay here, she thought to herself.
The alpha-male came back to look down into the hole they had dug and gazed deep into Ami’s eyes. It was then she knew it was okay to come out.
She worked her way out of the snow refuge that had protected her and the wolf and into the daylight and brisk mountain air. The pack then surrounded her as before, but this time there wasn’t any snarling and snipping, they just stood there panting as the alpha-male came up to her. He nudged Ami along in a direction of what would turn out an hour later to be where she had left the Hansel and Gretel trail. It would have been a sight to behold seeing this young girl surrounded and protected by a pack of wolves, but no one saw, no one would ever know. Ami believed no one would believe her story and left that part out as her concerned mother attended to the bump on the back of Ami’s head.

Ami came back to the ski lodge the next season. She was eighteen now and could come and go as she pleased. The lodge had only one cabin available far from the others and she rented it for the weekend. She continued her ski lessons that day. She mastering some of its skills and progressed past the Hansel and Gretel trail and onto an intermediate one.
She was very tired that night and went to bed early, but was awoken a few hours later by an insistent scratching at the cabin door.
To be continued?

Writing this to you helps me put this all down into words and is already helping me come to a decision. The fall semester starts Aug 15 and I won’t be able to take the EMT class this fall, but maybe a medical terminology class and then EMT come spring semester, so I need to come to a decision.

What is Art? It’s more like what you believe Art is to you. I believe Art has many mediums an artist can use to express their creativity and depth of feeling. What a spectator sees as Art is up to that individual's tastes and their acceptance to new ideas. Art may hang on private walls, hotel lobbies, or foyers of museums gathering dust or be as fleeting as a mime's antics in a park. Great art is what makes you suddenly step back in awe, to ruminate on the artist's message, to rip apart your ideology and lay it bare before you like a blank jigsaw puzzle you need to rearrange to become whole again.

...and the universe opened up before him, a rift between life, physics, and of what is, was, or will be. Into the dark abyss he spiralled seeing gray shapes of his past as if watching some bizarre silhouette puppet show being played out before him. Down down down he went legs and arms flailing as he tried to control his descent. Time had no place here, an endless nothingness, an intimate relationship with infinite realities yet to be born.

Old friends are little treasures we safely tuck away, unlike like our enemies we keep at bay. Old friends are always ready, and never lost, unlike money or old shoes, old friends are neither spent nor ever tossed. They be here for us and us for them, when the time is right they just show up, and that’s just the way it is.

Sometimes you have to devote your whole being when your journey suddenly ends at a crossroad. Deciding which road is a detour, weighing your odds for this road or another. Standing at the precipice of your destiny, the harsh cold forbidding winds of fate blowing hard against coat and hat as you lean in and take that first step forward.

I just have the hands on test to complete and I believe we’ll be doing these in the rest of what’s left of the class.

Tuesday 05- 105 degrees.

Ha! I am in the same class as Teresa and boy it is really a fast and involved class. I haven't been to school in a whole while and when this class came up I jumped at the chance to join... I forgotten over the decades that a summer class is a whole semester crammed into a month. Teresa even has a hydraulics class in the evening. She drive home after the 9-12 EMR class and drives to the college class at around 6pm I think. She looked mighty tired today, but she is a real trooper. I spent a scathing four hours completing the test of two-hundred questions and missed thirteen of them which I found out later wasn’t that bad, an A. The time was up would be up at midnight to redo the Midterm, but I was too tired after doing the Final Exam to really care. At least I don’t have to worry about doing the Final Exam at the end of the course.

Monday 27- 106 degrees and overcast.

I went to class, went back home, studied, walked Cassie, and then studied some more.

May 2016

Saturday 07- I just got back from a month's stay in Torrance... I had to take care of my Dad and Stepmother who are 93 and 92. I finally convinced them to sell their house and go into a rest home (a lot more to the story)... So they're in a very nice rest home being taken care of and the house should sell for a nice price so they won't need to worry about the future.

Sunday 08- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Monday 09- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I worked in the yard getting most of the large pieces of wood from my old roof of some 20 years ago into the dumpster for them to pick up tomorrow; fill the whole dang dumpster to the top.

Tuesday 10- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I drew something: my home.

My HP laptop froze on startup after doing a Microsoft Security Update. I tried several different ways to get it going, but none worked. Thankfully I am good at keeping things backed up and decided to do a clean install and wipe the whole drive. Took awhile to complete, but now I can give it away to my Dad.

Wednesday 11- I did my stretches, too hot to go for a jog with Cassie.

Went to sherry’s house and we did our shopping whiles the dogs chased each other in the backyard.

Thursday 12- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I worked in the yard and around the house fixing this and that.

I was going to edit a chapter of “Desolation” but found out MS Office for my Mac had expired... I decided not to mess around with anything else and bought a year’s subscription to MS Office 365. I had to reinstall the whole program over again, but this version is a bit better than my old 365 I had on my Macbook Air.

Friday 13- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Saturday 14- I did my stretches but it was too hot for me and Cassie to go for a jog.

Got to work clearing up the remains of the old roof out back... still a bit more to do.

I edited Chapter 11 of “Desolation” and posted it to FaceBook for my friends to read.

Took Cassie for an evening jog when it wasn’t so hot.

Sunday 15- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

Cassie and me went for an evening jog.

Monday 16- I did my stretches and took cassie for a walk.

I continued to cleanup the yard raking up all the little pieces of splintered roofing wood and nails putting them in the dumpster that is quickly running out of room.

I took Cassie for an evening walk.

Tuesday 17-  I did my stretches and took Cassie for a short walk.

I went to WalMart... got a haircut there and did some shopping.

Worked some on the edit of chapter 12 of “Desolation”.

I thought it over and decided to take the Emergency Medical Responder class at the college on June 13th. It’ll start at 9am and go until 11:45am 4 days a week for a month. I just felt I needed this class.

Wednesday 18- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I drew something: a strange looking face.

I practiced my guitar for a short spell.

Edited chapter 12 of “Desolation” and posted it to FaceBook.

I finished reading chapter 10 on volcanism and extrusive rocks.

I started reading April’s chapter in “365 Starry Nights” and have a ways to go to get caught up.

Thursday 19- very windy!

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a mile jog with Cassie.

I drew something: a park ranger, well it looked like a park ranger when I got done.

I spent most of the day trying to register for an Emergency Medical Responder Course at Copper Mountain College. I made up my mind to just go for it and attend the class late last night. It’ll be for only a month; June 13 to July 13, 4 days a week Mon-Thurs from 9am to 11:50am. I'll have to radically change my sleeping habits for this class... can't be 10 o'clock Bob anymore for a spell. I went through the online enrollment and had to print out a worksheet I had to fill out, take a picture of and then email it back to admissions. I called admissions and they got the pics of the worksheet, but now I need to send them a copy of my AA degree to satisfy the reading 51 requirement, so I sent her a picture of my AA. She said she will email a form so I can take this “one class only” without having to go thru anymore requirements. So I had to print that out too and sign it and take a picture and send it back to them. That’s how we do online registration now a days. I bought the textbook on Amazon; set me back $120 some dollars. I still need to purchase a manual blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, and a pen light. Now the funny thing is that I now have an educational email address and the college uses Outlook 365, so when I went to check if there was any email a notification popped up saying since I was a student I could get MS Office 365 for free; I wish I knew that a few days ago when I paid $69 for Office 365!

Friday 20- I started changing my sleeping habits by waking up at 7:30am and will continue doing this until I finish the class on July 13th.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I drew something: a profile of a man’s head.

I was supposed to have my textbook for the EMR class delivered today, but it never came. I paid extra for the one-day delivery and called Amazon and got a refund for that.

I edited and posted chapter 13 of “Desolation” on FaceBook.

Saturday 21- I did my stretches, lifted the 20lbs dumbbells and took Cassie for a mile jog.

Movie night!!!

Cassie and me will be there again to see all our friends and eat popcorn, hot dogs wrapped in bacon in a bun covered in that hot mayonnaise they have there, let's not forget those tit cookies, and stand around yammer on and on and laugh about how bad the film was (the last movie "Mesa of the Lost Women" was bad, very bad... only 1 star out of 999 votes on IMDB, but it was well worth braving the cold winds that night to be with the desert folks under the starry night skies that I love. Unfortunately it was a full Moon that night, but fortunately the Moon, Mars and Saturn danced together making a nice little triangle for us all to gaze upon and wonder what it's all about... the movie I'm talking about, not life.

Sunday 22- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk... my day off.

I edited and posted chapter 14 of “Desolation” on FaceBook.

Monday 23- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I edited and posted chapters 15 and 16 of “Desolation” on FaceBook for my Friends to read. This is the first edit of the book and I expect there’ll be a lot of errors to correct.

Tuesday 24- I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and a mile jog with Cassie.

Finally everything came together; my book for the class and the pump up blood pressure thingy and stethoscope came from Amazon after many delays. Then I made two calls to the college and they said the messup was on their side and I was able to enroll in my EMR class.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie.

I started reading the EMR textbook and will continue to read it until I am done and before the class begins on June 13th.

Wednesday 25- windy with rain!

I did my exercises.

Went shopping with Sherry while Cassie played with her friends Willey, Barney and Abby.

Thursday 26- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

UPS deliver my kit for the EMR class.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie.

Friday 27- I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells and went for one mile jog with Cassie.

Saturday 28- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sunday 29- I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie.

Monday 30- I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a mile jog with Cassie.

My current Amazon Prime account is due to expire on June 06, but I found out that I can get a student Amazon Prime account for 6 months for free and then continue for half price. So I sent them my college student email address and all is well.

I went for a evening mile jog with Cassie.

Tuesday 31- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a one mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

Two versions of the same poem below... one was too long and one that just didn’t say enough...

Long:

On the deck of subtle sorrows, be cast upon the seas of darkness, to sail blindly before the winds of treachery... stormy weather has prevailed.

Though strength is now our greatest weakness, to plow corporate fields for paltry rewards. They subjugate our populace for their corporate pleasures, and drag us under to dance as puppets, to that same old tune as was played before.

They squash and plunder all creativity and imagination, until their coffers are filled high with greed and hatred, until the planet’s resources are all dried up, and our free will that once was, is no more.
So please spare thy simple requests of absolution, spare us all your idiosyncrasies and delusions, that floats along with the rising tide, but share with us your reflections of independence, share with us your pride and sanity, wipe that sweaty corporate grime off your brow, or ye shall be doomed to a voyage under tyranny.

I claim to have no quick solutions, but to spit in the face of freedom’s aggressors, and ask ourselves are we to blame.

I stopped watching the Network News a long time ago. I don't want to be fed, I want to absorb the news from different sources, but it's all the same, it never changes, 10, 20 years, 40 years... it's all the same BS: wars, murder, rape, lost dogs... it never changes... you can still see the graffiti written on the walls of buildings and passageways in Pompeii; a city that was blasted off the face of the Earth almost two thousand years ago..

If there are any intelligent minded elected officials with a bit of common sense left in our Congress, they must have been squashed by the rhetoric of radical zealots, out spent by the greed of the money grabbers, or just bored to tears by the stupidity and ignorance of everyone else surrounding them.

I said, “you can’t take the house with you so you might as well sell it and use the money to have a better quality of life in your final years.” He agreed with me.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

I am trying to do what I have to do, I already did what I wanted to do, so now when I get to doing what I was supposed to be doing in the first place I'll get to what I needed to do when I'm done doing that.
~RD

This poem I almost didn't share.

I feel I should/must maintain some sort of balance between good and evil, love and hate, greed and charity, life and death or become dull in my writings... good doesn't always prevail over evil. If I wrote about unicorns and fairy-dust all the time, I and everyone else would become bored:

Dreadful sobs of tormented sorrow pulse heavily from painful chest within, deepest are my rage of delusions stemming from Original Sin, that foul and noxious putrid odor that darkens what moral soul I have, sordid spittle from temple’s pulpit hides reality from those who seek, so blind are the lost and faithful who follow set path like timid sheep, those who came forward, honest and weak, those who had faith in what they believe, that the skies shall just open up as if to suck up their sins, I will cry for the passing of all my dear friends...  never to see them... never ever again.

~RD

Hoof Prints in the sky

What happened to the unicorns prancing merrily in the heath, they been gone from the paddock, missing from the moor, are they hiding in the hinterlands because they come to us no more. Pixie rings and fairy dust, magic wands we use  to track, but they have taken to the skies and they are never coming back. With careful eye to see their path, a great labor we shall undertake, to look beyond the mountains, above the fairy dale, and if we are very lucky, and fate is on our side, shall ye see upon a cloudy day their hoof prints in the sky.

March 2016

Tuesday 01- 84 to 54 mostly sunny.

I was doing my stretches and yoga when Sherry called to say her car still wasn’t working after a friend charged her battery last night. I asked her if I could come by and see if I can fix it. I checked her battery with my voltmeter and it registered at 12.24 VDC, but when I had her start the engine it dropped to 11 VDC and died. I brought my truck around and jumped start the battery and got her engine started. I wanted to see if she had a bad alternator so while the engine was still running I disconnected the battery and the engine kept running, meaning that the battery was bad and not the starter or the alternator, but I wasn’t sure that the alternator was actually charging the battery. This I did later when we put the new battery in and the alternator was charging the battery at 14.5 VDC.

We went and picked up the new battery, had breakfast/lunch/dinner at the all you can eat Chinese Restaurant and went shopping at WalMart while Cassie played with her friends Barney, Abby and Willy in Sherry’s backyard.

When we were done we visited and jawed for a long spell catching up on our lives. Jimmy and Clarice will take the old tires to the community clean-up in Sunfair on Saturday.

I then left and worked on my yard tossing a whole bunch of junk away and cleaning up a pile of broken glass out of windows frames someone had brought over ten years ago without asking me if I wanted them. Kinda like, “Here’s some windows for you,” and just dropping them off.

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

Oh sweet child my Amberlyn, pouty lips ride above dimpled chin... rosy cheeks that grace the day, that’s my bonny Amberlyn.

She wears no makeup painted upon her face, why conceal such beauty that would hide beneath, she’s as genuine and fresh as a mountain stream that runs its course into the raging seas.

Yellow threadbare dress hangs down to her skinny knees, it flutters in the summer breeze, plain and simple for all to see, that’s my bonny Amberlyn...

A tattered felt hat reigns up high on pixie ears where flowers rest, patches adorn old denim vest, a small gold chain holds a peace sign between modest breasts, the calming smell of jasmine completes her scent.

She masters each obstacle that stands in her way, to save the Earth she likes to say, with all her effort she’ll embrace that day, cause that’s how I’ll always remember my sweet sweet bonny Amberlyn.

Brittle leaves once green and glittered with shine, now colored to golden reds and yellows have now fallen away, to float so lightly to the ground on a harsh winter’s day. Hedgehogs nestle in nests built of twigs and leafs cuddling their young, waiting through winter’s fury for the warmth of the sun.

The creek is now frozen, there’s snow on the ground, the night has grown silent, cause the snow dampens the sounds.

An owl swoops in searching the night, upon barren branch it perched in the haloed moon light, alert is heighten as wide eyes seek, small prey that stay hidden and not wanting to be eat, to starve off hunger and last through the cold of another winter’s day, the owl moves on, the hedgehogs are safe.

The sun makes its appearance, the air begins to warm, white snow has melted that once covered the ground, is finding its way to the creek that now babbles on. The wait for spring is not far away, as sprouts crack through once frozen earth to give birth to a new day.

That day has arrived, spring has appeared, with chirping of birds and buzzing bees, life has arisen and flourishes in the trees, that are now covered in their new shiny green dress, and the hedgehogs with their young have come safely out from their nests.

The owner said the by-in just to sale Trek was $30,000 and his shop was too small to afford that, but he had others I looked at. One was a fat bike that I took for a spin, I mean this thing had some monstrous tires on it and I road through some soft dirt without a problem; $1200 was the only problem.

Then I went to WalMart and did my shopping and got a haircut while I was there. I bought a 32 inch Vizio television that can connect to wifi and has HDMI.

I kept calling out between bites to everyone that the food was really great. Unfortunately, I got so involved in a conversation with Charles, Dave and Pat that I didn’t notice the time and missed out on getting seconds of the fantastic food. It was probably just as well because by the time I arrived home I realized how full I really was. Writing is a creative art where words come from our heart and the darkest depths of our being, to take twenty-six letters of the alphabet and turn them into some kind of meaning, and if by chance we arrange them just right they may be worth your reading.

Stop focusing so much on who you are but on what you can become.

High above some lofty forest, shadows cover moonless midnight, bleak depression settles into madness, a deeper darkness shall you not fear. Passionate sorrows harvest what’s left of my life, it withers away at pitted soul. Deeply entrenched my vile desires, retained against a fortress of trepidation, now released upon an unknowing world.

Blighted coldness and worms do creep, over old bones of what’s left of me, for now it be said that I have fled and the laughter has ceased to be. Angst and regret crust over wounds running deep and eyes of wonder sparkle no more. Love has trickled away from once mortal life, and keeps me from loving thee.

When I go out at night I bask in the light of a billion stars and some of that light is from galaxies millions of light years away. Most I cannot see with my naked eyes, but I know their light is out there to be seen, you just have to know where to look.

They call me 10 o’clock Bob around here. I’ve been a night person all my life and would fall asleep in class in grade school and high school and had very lousy grades. No one understood why I had bad grades because supposedly I scored high on the mandatory IQ test they had us take. It wasn’t until I went to college that I excelled because I had planned my classes during the afternoon and evening hours and did my homework while working on a graveyard shift. I think kids with the same problem as I could benefit by getting up later in the day for school, but until our school system discovers that one size does not fit all when it comes to circadian rhythms, kids will be likely to fail and be called lazy as I was. Yes, 7am is an ungodly hour for some of us!

We always end up where we’re supposed to be given the choices we make, be it a nine to five job, bringing up a family, writing and publishing books or homeless in some dank dark back alley covered in cardboard cuddled up with our last bottle of cheap wine. Everyone has a chance to excel, but not everyone takes it.

Kelly called and needed her tire fixed. So I went over to her house and worked on it. She didn’t have a tire iron so I couldn’t take the tire off, I would have to plug it with it still on the car. We jacked it up, inflated the tire with my air pump, but couldn’t find a nail or any place it was leaking air from. I had her get some soap and water and brush and I splashed the tire with the concoction. It started bubbling from where the rim connects to the tire and I could see a dent in the rim where she may have hit a curve or something. So she needs a new rim. It’s a slow leak and will hold air until she gets to WalMart later today. I told her to get that green fix a flat stuff to seal the leak until she gets a new rim. She also needs to get a tire iron and air pump.

A review I left on Amazon for the TP-Link range extender (Technical stuff ahead)

It worked for a few months and then I couldn't connect. The website the instructions told me to connect to "tplinkextender.net" has a damn virus! Another website I was directed to "tplinkconnect.net" was for sale! I finally ended up at http://tplinkrepeater.net and still couldn't get into the device. It seemed it just stopped transmitting its wi-fi signal.... I did a reset on the device and was able to receive a signal and then was able to log into tplinkrepeater.net as admin with my Mac Air. It was almost finished when a popup said my Adobe Flash was out of date. I didn't click on that and closed the browser. I decided to try reseting it and try again on a different computer running Win 10. I got it to load up and there wasn't any popups for outdated flash, but a weird search site replaced the TP-Link site. I shut down my browser and opened it again, no problem. I went and connected my desktop ethernet cable into the TP-Link Range Extender and I was connected to the internet, but when I opened the browser it said I have a virus and to call the number they provided for tech help. I couldn't open another tab. I closed the browser without clicking on the notice and unplugged the ethernet cable and restarted my desktop. I opened up the browser and the notice popped up again. So now I have some kind of malware I have to deal with all because I used TP-Link's websites to get access to their device! I am dumping this and getting something a little more dependable...

Saturday 23- 61 to 44 overcast, high winds after 7pm.

Sherry came by to visit with Cassie and fed her a bunch of dog biscuits.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a mile run with Cassie.

I did a reset of Windows 10 on the desktop to be rid of whatever the system caught when I tried to connect to the TP-Link website. I’ll just connect the desktop to an ethernet cable hooked to my router instead of the TP-Link WiFi Extender. Another time waster I am not going to deal with again. It’s too late to send it back, but I might just send it back to the company and tell them to shove it.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a nice long walk, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Sunday 24- 60 to 41 degrees.

I did my stretches and messed around the yard and on the patio. I mostly kicked back and read tech stuff online.

Tuesday 26- 60 to 39

Saturday 30-  52 to 50

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I went to potluck and had a mighty fine time there with the folks in my community. We all got pretty stuff like always. I like to thank Mary and Chris for putting it all together and continuing our potluck tradition.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie and did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

Sunday 31- 49 to 29 lots of rain and wind.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes. I had just finished punching the heavy bag when the rain started to fall.

The rain had stopped for a spell and I decided to do my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening jog with Cassie. Unfortunately the wind picked up as we went for the job and as we jogged across the crest of the hill, little pieces of sand and grit was hitting me in the face and stung when they hit.

I treat dogs and people alike... some will smile while some may bite.

I feel like I am stuck in a carnival surrounded by clowns and carnies; barkers shouting out their persuading pleas of solicitations to entice me away from my life’s calling and divert me into some shady tent for a dog and pony show. All the while, off in the distance, the dim sounds of a fading parade reach out and beg for my attention.

~RD

Green with fluorescence that rips across cresting waves, white is the ocean that pounds upon the shore. The sea sweeps over castles built of grainy sand, but a love can last forever, when a heart is gently cradled, sitting on a beach in silence, holding hand in hand. Your eyes sparkle with Moonbeams as we gaze into the night, hair that glistens with stardust, when I run my fingers through their lovely locks. Moist lips and eager cuddling that first kiss brings has begun, when I hold you closely, our heartbeats come as one.

These are memories I cherish, whenever I think of you, I tingle in delight with the love we kindled, and the love that we had. If I ever fall, I shall rise back upon my feet, for such a love conquers all, from whatever darkness seeks.

~RD

I lie in silence upon my bed, as cold sweat flowed down from my head, to drip and soak on silken sheets, frozen with fear the death I may meet. A feeling of grief, a wave of sorrow, has shaken me right down to my marrow. A dream of  dread, still lingers and seeps, had woken me from this horrid sleep. I am startled, I am stunned when a tap tap tapping at my door begun, then a foreboding cry I heard echo off darken walls within... Lenore! Lenore! Never more!

Too dang cold to go for a night jog.

Read more of chapter 5 in geology.

I went to my doctor’s for a checkup. I had to be there at 10:30am and I am not a morning person so I had my brother Kevin call me at 9am, but he lives in Tucson where it’s an hour later and he called me at 8am... oh well, it was a nice dream I was having too.

Sunday 06- 61 to 42 degrees.

Tuesday 08- 75 to 49 degrees. A nice sunny day.

A day off exercising! My chest muscle isn’t as painful as last night; I think it was caused by the new type of pull ups I am trying to ease myself into.

I removed the burned out tail light and replaced it with a new one. I unhung my front door that kept scraping against the floor and took a saw to the bottom to cut a quarter of an inch off. The door closes fine and doesn’t rub against the floor.

Wednesday 09- 76 to 50 degrees.

I woke up and me and Cassie went to visit Sherry and her dogs, Barry, Abby and Willie. While Cassie was out playing with the gang, me and Sherry went shopping and ate lunch/dinner at the Asian Buffet. Sherry gave me a bed she didn’t need any longer along with some sheets and blankets. Like always, Cassie was very tired after her visit playing with her fur friends and slept all the way home and the rest of the night.

Thursday 10- 54 to 49 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a 1 mile jog. Note: I am not going to time myself the the new watch thingy anymore because it’s just too demanding to keep a log here on it.

I took the old crummy mattress that must had been pre WWII and threw it into the dumpster. I moved the new bed into the bedroom and set it up after giving the bedroom floor a good cleaning. Very nice to be sleeping on a comfortable bed.

Saturday 12- 60 to 36 degrees.

Geminid Meteor Shower: Very clear where I am (and cold) saw a bunch here and there when I went out with Cassie so she could do her business. Should be better tomorrow night.

Sunday 13- 61 to 35 degrees, windy all day with clouds moving in during the late afternoon.

Geminid Meteor Shower: Went out again Sunday night (just got back in 1:30AM)... saw more meteors then I think I've ever seen in one sitting. Dang cold too!

Monday 14- 54 to 34 degrees with lots of wind.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lbs dumbbells and ran a mile with Cassie.

I mostly watched various TED Talks on Youtube.

UPS delivered my new microscope. I am going to start a new hobby! I’ve been watching videos courses online on how to use one; there’s a lot more than I thought.

I cut up a whole bunch of wood for my wood stove.

My neighbor’s golf car broke down and he came to my fence at 5pm asking for a tow to his house. I couldn’t keep Cassie from barking at the guy. I had stopped by his house to say welcome to the neighborhood when he and his family just move in about six months ago, but they didn’t seem all that friendly and have never dropped by my home and I hadn’t heard from them since.

Right now I assembled the 8 inch Dobsonian telescope and I am checking out the optics right now. I will assemble the frame tomorrow and the scope should see first light tomorrow night

Sunday 20- 56 to 37 degrees with clouds throughout the day, but cleared in the evening.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walks.

I put the frame together and mounted the telescope. I took it outside into the night sky where it saw first light. I adjusted the finder scope, checked out that everything was in order and turned her 8” mirror onto Andromeda Galaxy and a few other objects. There was hardly any adjusting to do and I didn’t even have to collimate the main mirror. A car had just drove past at high speeds on our dirt road when I was having the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I got worried about dust from the road and packed her up and put her safe inside the house. I will have to devise a plan to keep the dust out of the DOB when outside.

Monday 21- 62 to 46 degrees and cloudy.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, took Cassie for a 1 mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

Tuesday 22- 66 to 46, very windy and cloudy today. The strong winds woke me up several times during the night when part of my garage roof came apart and I had to go out to fix it. I finally got to sleep and didn’t wake up until 1pm... My whole day was gone before it started.

It was after nightfall and I took Cassie out to go pee when I saw my neighbor’s truck go up the embankment and get stuck there. I saw that she wasn’t going to get it out herself so I got my shovel, threw it in the back of my truck and went over and dug her out. It only took me about ten minutes, no more and she was on her way.

Wednesday 23- 62 to 40 degrees mostly sunny.

We went to Sherry’s house to go shopping for supplies at Stater Bros. and sacks of dog food at the Tractor Supply store while Cassie played with her fur friends.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a 1 mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

Friday 25- 45 to 29 degrees, very windy and cold outside.

I got a telescope and microscope that Santa Claus... err UPS and FedEx brought me.

Me and Cassie stayed inside and watched TED Talks on YouTube and other interesting stuff.

Saturday 26- 46 to 30 degrees, just as cold and windy as yesterday if not worse.

We stayed inside again because of the high winds.

I started going through my boxes of old receipts, bills paid, from as far back as 1997 when I moved up here; some even older from the 70s. It was many boxes packed one upon another taking up my space and adding to the clutter that seems to be affecting my progress. I sat there for three days tossing this and that, I mean who needs to keep a telephone bill from June 2001? I kept all my tax filings, correspondence, birthday, holiday Christmas cards, photos, and little mementos to remind me of those lost to me throughout the years, but the rest went into my woodstove and kept my home warm for three days. I do not know why I kept all these receipts and such; it was kinda like I felt some corrupt entity was waiting, watching for a weak moment to take everything from me. Or maybe I was just lazy, but I now took heed to these words I heard spoken once before, “If you don’t clean up your mess eventually someone else will have to do it for you.” I now feel free of this baggage whose weight weighed heavy on my soul.

Sunday 27- no wind finally! Still a bit cold.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a 1 mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

Monday 28- 53 to 35 degrees mostly sunny.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for all her walks.

I had to go to the dentist office because a screw worked its way out of my implant. I left my house early and went to the post office to pick up some packages there and then shopping at Stater Bros before my dentist appointment.

Tuesday 29- 54 to 33 sunny.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

Wednesday 30- 53 to 30 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

Thursday 31- 53 to 29 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag.

I finished reading “365 Starry Nights” by Chet Raymo.

I'm getting ready to go for a run up the hill in front of my house in 2015 and run back down it in 2016... I think it's a good way to run out the old and bring in the new

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

Do not abandon your dreams.

A new year is upon you. A time for reflection. To re-evaluate and renew what works and let go of what doesn't, be they things, people or addictions. Walk away from their drama to make room for new beginnings. Eliminate those distraction seizing control of your life, carrying you farther off your course to flounder in the gray turbulent seas of uncertainty and denial to become the flotsam and jetsam washed upon the shores of self-pity and doubt. Make your destiny your own, follow your dreams and no others.

The beginnings of a Poem Story?

Come along ye children let me recite thee all a tale, of an enchanted land not too far over there. Deep in the forests, beyond civilization’s cold reach, surrounded by thickets of bramble and moss tapestry trees, lies a mystical clearing where fairies truly appear, so ye not be frighten cause there’s nothing to fear.

There be flowers always blooming, grass taller than you, where spring always lasts throughout the whole year. A stream runs on through it, as calm as you please, do ye hear water bubbling across rocks and small boulders in the sweet summer breeze?

Little girls with elfin ears slumber upon mushroom caps laden with goose down filled soft satin sacks. Each one is combing each other’s long golden hair spun from strains of diamonds which are precious, added silver for its shine and gold that be rare and so hard to find. Their hair glistens and sparkles filling the dark void which threatens to devour and to destroy, their small little meadow that they call home with such joy.

They comb as they watch and start laughing at the boys with three hoof toes go dancing and a prancing, and a clowning, speaking in rhyming prose. Singing and playing their flutes to find the right tune, which will impress and lure the girls lying pretty off of their shrooms, and into the meadows to enjoy in the fun and frolic together as if they were one.

My response to an article “Ebook Reader Innovation was Stagnant in 2015”:

Well they haven’t upgraded the paperback for many decades now. Still no backlighting, same antiquated way to turn the page, and the memory storage hasn’t been improved since the papyrus era and takes up much wall space (good for insulation). My biggest complaint is you can’t change the font size and the pages yellow over time. Paperbacks tend to lose bookmarks if you drop them, but the dogeared ones stay put. The good news is that the page refresh hasn’t been affected since neolithic times.

I met a homeless woman sitting on blankets in front of Walmart with her little dog. I noticed people walking past her trying to avoid eye contact. I went in and did my shopping and came out the same door hoping to see her. She was still there and I stopped and asked her if she wanted anything from McDonalds. She wanted fries and a coke and she watched my groceries for me while I went inside. I chatted with her for a long spell to find out her story, as newspaper columnist like you and me like to do. It was a sad story about how she fell off her horse and broke her back a few years ago. She lost her job at the Eisenhower Hospital, has to take these horrible meds for pain, and her boyfriend had just kicked her and her dog out and she is now living in her car. I gave her ten dollars. I would have liked to have done more.

More should be done... there shouldn't be any homeless people in America unless they want to be (I've met a few fellow Veterans like that).

There is a lot of land out here where the homeless could setup tents or have them provided in a safe environment. Maybe purchase a large lot and work with the county to get around some of the code restrictions. There should be state, county and federal service counseling for programs that they qualify for, on site.

I believe it can be done if we want to do it... or maybe it's just me fantasizing; I do a lot of that.

Sunday 22- a little windy.

I thought I was catching a cold so I spent the day inside the house. Cassie was upset I didn’t take her for her walks.

I took a nap later in the evening and it seems the symptoms of the cold went away.

Monday 23- the wind started blowing hard in the evening hours.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I cut up a whole pile of wood for my wood stove to keep me and Cassie warm at night.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening run with Cassie and did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

Trying again to catch up on my “365 Starry Nights” book that I missed during my week away in Torrance and the sixteen days I spent on the National Novel Writing Month... 16 days over 50,000 words. I had to 30 days to finish it, but why wait.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and took Cassie for a mile run.

Tuesday 24- very windy again.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for her walks.

It was a day where I could have caught up on some stuff I had to do, but ended up doing nothing but finishing my Christmas cards I’m sending out tomorrow.

Wednesday 25- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile jog.

I went to the post office to pick up a package (a Pebble smartwatch I bought) and to mail off those Christmas cards and one of my books I published to a friend. I then went to the Doctor’s office to get my flu shot, got gas for the truck, and picked up some supplies for me and Cassie; I remembered the donuts, but forgotten the bananas.

Thursday 26- cloudy

I did my stretches, lifted weights, took Cassie for a mile and a half jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I wished everyone Happy ThanksGiving on FaceBook and called a few too.

Me and Cassie had leftover chicken and french fries for dinner; I ate the donuts.

I read some astronomy, geology, and vacantly stared at a math book.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie and did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

Saturday 28- just dang cold.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile and a half jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I spent some time cleaning up the place. Got all the stuff that accumulated on the electric piano I late last year to learn how to play, but ended up becoming a table. I shall put it on my to learn list.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening one mile jog with Cassie and did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I read some more astronomy.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a night jog with Cassie up the hill and back, did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

Sunday 29- 53 to 32 degrees, clear skies and no wind.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, took Cassie for a 1.22 mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I swept and mopped, using Pine Sol, the whole dang cabin.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening 1.2 mile jog with Cassie and did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I just got done with the jog and lifting weights when a red car pulled up and began dumping trash into my dumpster. I confronted him and he said he thought it was the community dumpster because it didn’t have a lock on it; he might be the same guy in a red car that checked out my mailbox a month or so ago. He said he lived up the street; I knew the place, been there a bunch of times when Carolyn Rich owned it, she passed on about 2 years ago and her daughter owns it now. So I told him the dumpster wasn’t a community dumpster and my mailbox doesn’t get any mail. I also said the polite thing of him to do would have been to ask permission first. He seemed like a nice enough person, works for the JT National Park, so I said he could use my dumpster for little things like household garbage.

I got caught up reading my astronomy book, “365 Starry Nights”. I also did some reading of chapter 5 in the geology book.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a night jog with Cassie up the hill and back, did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

Monday 30- 58 to 32 degrees.

I did my stretches, yoga, lifted weights, took Cassie for a 1.17 mile jog, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

No matter how bad you feel when you wake up in the mornings and look into the bathroom mirror, know that you are loved!

I am a peaceful person. I remember when there was a kinda sorta band on ORV awhile back. We started to see more critters coming around. There were some foxes that came back to live and tortoises crawling about. It was nice to be able to enjoy the silence of the desert on the weekends again... Like I said I am a peaceful person and I won't be coming to this event because I feel I would become, well let's just say I wouldn't want to lose the tranquility that the desert has bestowed upon me arguing with some folks who want to turn our beautiful desert into a highway to hell. Now I don't mind sharing the desert with these folks, it's a wondrous place. It would be nice of them to see the desert through my eyes, to learn to respect it as I have and use it not as a destination to destroy but as a place they would want to come back to, a place they could call their home.

October 2015

Thursday 01- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I went to WalMart to do some shopping for supplies and get my haircut by a pretty gal called Sara. Then I went over to Home Depot to get a liner to seal the gasket for my refrigerator and while I was there I looked at some new ones, I needed to go get measurements from the one at my home to see if the ones they had there would fit.

I got home around 5pm and split the whole chicken I bought at WalMart with Cassie.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a night run with Cassie, did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

Friday 02- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I went to Home Depot and told them I wanted the smaller 3.5 cubic foot one. This is even smaller than the one I have that broke down, but I never really had used its full capacity and this smaller one would conserve energy better than the older bigger one.

Saturday 03- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I worked on truck trying to find the right tire size and ordered four rims and tires online. They will be shipped to me and I’ll have to find some shop to mount them.

Astronomy read month of May“365 Starry Skies” trying to catch up.

Geology- answering chapter 4 questions.

Sunday 04- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I called family and friends throughout the day.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie I did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I spent a lot of time online trying to find a lite trailer to hook up to my truck so I can start my travels. Called a few sellers and made offers and they’ll get back to me or I to them.

Monday 05- it rained most of the day.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I started to rain about 1pm so that put a lid on what I was going to do outside cleaning up the yard.

I worked on getting my new book organized and edited.

Tuesday 06- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

OnTrac Shipping arrived with my four new rims for the Ford F-150. I am still waiting for UPS to ship the tires from Ohio. I think there is a big storm holding up the shipment.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie and did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I read all of the month of June in “365 Starry Nights” trying to get caught up.

Geology; started chapter 5, Mountain Belts and Continental Crust: scanned through the chapter and read the summary and then read the introduction.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a night run with Cassie, did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I practiced my guitar for a spell.

Wednesday 07- Rest up day for me so I did my stretches and took Cassie for all her walks throughout the day.

UPS arrived with my new 3.5cu. ft freezer. I had to move the old 5 cu. ft one outside and clean the dirty area where it sat for many years. Then I moved the new smaller one in and plugged it in and cooled down quite nicely. Moved everything out of the working Norcold fridge and took also took it outside.

FedEx arrived with my new study book “Chemistry a Molecular Approach” a very heavy book, must weight 15lbs.

I read all of the month of July in “365 Starry Nights”.

Geology chapter 5: size and alignment, thickness and characteristics of rock layers.

I started the chemistry book; read the preface, scanned through the whole book, and then read 1.1 of chapter one.

Thursday 08- warming up to 97 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I went to post office to get my book that was signed by Buzz Aldrin “

I went to AutoZone looking for a 2 inch trailer ball and electrical hookup for the trailer I might be buying. Met a man named Jones who knew a friend of mine called Rufus. We must have talked almost the better part of an hour about Rufus and Stoney. I did some shopping for supplies at Stater Bros. and gave Cassie a nice walk when I got home.

Saw a really bright bluish green earthgrazer around 2am when I let Cassie out to go pee.

Friday 09- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I went to the 29 Palms fire station on Lear Ave at 5pm for their open house. I met some really nice people there. I was introduced to the teacher who is putting on an EMR class at the firestation in January and I might just take the course to add to my skills for CERT; EMR is one step below EMT and I believe mostly deals in triage. There wasn't anyone manning the 29 Palms CERT booth. I asked around but nobody seemed to know who even set up the booth. I belong to a different CERT group or I would have manned the booth and answered any questions. I won a raffle and received a Copper Mountain College Fire Club t-shirt and a smoke alarm.

Saturday 10- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I finished reading the month of August in the “365 Starry Skies” and also ten days into October, so I’m all caught up.

Sunday 11- I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells and went for a mile run with Cassie.

Monday 12- I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

Tuesday 13- I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Wednesday 14- I did my stretches and took Cassie for her walks.

Thursday 15- very heavy rain!

I was driving home from Yucca Valley in the evening after dropping off Cassie and taking Sherry out to dinner, when the clouds let loose with a wild torrent... I felt like I was on my way to Oz...

I made it home safe, but it was a wild ride with lightning strikes very close by with buckets of rain obscuring my vision; flooded roads made me take an alternative route home.

Friday 15 to Saturday 24- went to Torrance to take care of family....

YAY for me! I'm back home in the High Desert after a week down in Torrance to take care of a few things...

I arrived back here Saturday around 6pm...

Cassie is going to continue to stay at my friend Sherry's house and play with her three dog so I can clean this old shack up and fumigate it to get rid of all the crawly creepy critters; I was on the phone last night and saw a Millipede climbing up the wall!

Sunday 25-

I did my stretches

Monday 26- I've been really busy cleaning my house today... if I didn't do it, and I know for sure my dog wouldn't do it, the place would gather in a great big ball of dirt and grime to roll down the hill and over the cliff and bounce all the way down to the ocean where me and my dog would drift away... hopefully to Hawaii

Tuesday 27- I did my stretches and got ready to go to Sherry to pick up Cassie. We went to the Sizzler and then did a little shopping.

Cassie was glad to see me and very happy to be home; she whined as we I drove up to the front gate of our home.

Wednesday 28 thru Friday 30- very high winds.

My allergies knocked me out for a spell, probably brought on by the winds

Saturday 31- Was going to potluck when I noticed a flat on the left back tire on the Cougar. Took the scooter instead to potluck and will fix the tire tomorrow. We all had a wonderful time at the potluck.

Many are the moments that come to pass, of all nature's treasures we may fail to grasp. Sweet are the blossoms, quick are the bees, the sun shines down upon all of these, to bring life to a planet, a world that we share with life that be precious, yet fragile if not treated with care.

I had a blind puppy once. I found him wandering through the desert bumping into everything. Skin and bones, I picked him up and carried him to my home. I had him a month and he'd go for runs with me and had the whole backyard mapped out in his head except for Fat Cat who would give him a good whack on the nose... ya see the puppy didn't know he was blind and thought this was the way of the world. The German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County had found a home for him with a couple who had just lost their blind dog. It was a sad day for me when I handed him over, but it was for the dog's own good and to a family who could give him the attention he needed... Happy tears :')

Halloween Story: Pleasant dreams

I’ve been besieged by night demons who gather around and hover over me... waiting. Festering like the pox they do... somewhere between the cold creep of night and the twilight of dawn. They flow from mind to mind, haunting dreamers’ dreams with death and decay, want and dismay, greed and lust.

They cannot exist but only in this realm between realms, so they must be quick. Greedily fighting amongst themselves they do to be the first to gain entrance from without and probe a gateway within to spread their evil wicked sickness. Painfully I twist and turn in my bed, gasping for breath by the weight of their presence; like cold steel clamps tightening around my chest ever squeezing, crushing, suffocating the life out of me. Sweat pours from my body onto my bed sheets.

I can now feel their tentacles squirming throughout the hollows of  my mind to seize control and squeeze out those memories I try to hide. I resist as I can, but they begin to ooze their ugly wickedness into my thoughts, my dreams, my inner being. I can smell their hot moist breath like putrid decomposed flesh inhaling my life force and exhaling miasma and dripping viscid fluid onto my soul.

I always seem to awaken from this dreadful dream before some great catastrophe befalls me, like hitting the ground after tumbling over a cliff or being shot in the face by a mugger; I fear what would happen if I did not.

They are unaware I know of them and their nefarious ways. For I have seen them all; as a little child I was thought safe in bed, but awoke from a ghastly nightmare to catch a flitting glimpse of their pox scarred ghostly gray silhouettes scurrying away in fright and flight into the darken crevices and corners of my bedroom from which they came.

I take great personal risk in telling you of these hideous creatures of the night and to caution all who will listen; they’ll sweep in just as you wake in the realm between realms to scour your mind for any weakness and prey upon your sins. So be strong my friend and do no wrong to others or they shall seek you out and you'll become another evil force upon this world.

Take heed my words!

Pleasant dreams...

~RD

I don't see life as paths or roads to follow. I see life more as being on a little sailboat. You have your destination, but you are alone in a sea of wonder and at the mercy of the wind and waves. You set your course, tack back and forth and eventually arrive. Sometimes a fog bank rolls in you must stay calm and rely on your instincts and skill to proceed. There are treacherous storms you must fight through, larger ships you must avoid, and steep swells that want to drag you under before safe harbor you shall find.

September 2015

Tuesday 01- Wednesday 02- Mostly Grieving for the loss of my Sister Donna who passed on August 26. I spent the time between the 26th and now writing and editing my heart out to relieve my brain of the thought of her passing.

Thursday 03-  Dentist appointment.

Friday 04-  An email I sent to my Family in Tucson about the flowers we sent to Florida for our Sister Donna’s viewing:

As you can clearly see the arraignment wasn't even close to what we expected to be delivered. I call 1-800 flowers  and told them this was unacceptable. They wanted to do an exchange and I told them not to do this because it could be upsetting to the Family and to just drop them off. They said they would do this and not ask for a return. They gave me 50% off, but I told them it wasn’t the money it is that they needed to get it right in the first place.

So tomorrow our Family in Florida should get what we wanted them to receive from us in the first place.

Love you all!

Your Brother Bob

This is what we ordered at $160:

Donnas other flowers.jpg

this is what we were sent:Donnas flowers (1).jpg

Email from Paula: Hello, You are quite right. There is a big difference between what we ordered... Everyone agreed with me.

Saturday 05- 1-800 Flowers still haven’t delivered the flowers to my Sister Donna. Spent. The Rep called the flower shop and told me he left a message to have the flowers done and delivered on Sunday.

Some nitwit left the front gate open when he rode to pick up his mail and forgot to close it when he came back. Later when he let Cassie outside for her nightly walk she ran through the open gate and off into the desert night before the nitwit could correct his mistake and close the darn gate. After trying to chase her down, the nitwit called for Cassie for over half an hour... Cassie, Cassie come home... Cassie. Then decided to ride the scooter down roads to try and find her. After riding around for quite a time the nitwit came back home with head and shoulders hung low for not finding his dog... then Cassie came up to him as he was putting his scooter in the garage. This nitwit is mighty happy to have his Cassie back <3

Sunday 06- Still no flowers sent to my Sister Donna. I called again and got the same reply that they were really sorry and will definitely have the flowers delivered on Monday morning. I call several times throughout the day to make sure; yes, yes they will be delivered.

Monday 07- 1-800 Flowers still haven’t delivered the flowers to my Sister Donna. I even called them at 2am in the morning my time to see if they were working on the flower arrangement to have it delivered by morning in Florida; no answer. Call them the first thing when I got up and the lady rep called the flower shop and got a recording that they would be closed Saturday through Monday. Now why didn’t they just tell me that to begin with! I am sure the other Reps I talked to got the same recording.

Tuesday 08- Flowers delivered for my sister Donna finally! Just in time for my her burial. Now I feel a little better and can move on to other things. I love you my Sister Donna....

Wednesday 09- 103 degrees.

Did my exercises and took Cassie for a run.

It is my friends Larry and Bonnie’s first Anniversary. Larry built a garden arbor in their backyard without Bonnie's knowledge and even had the bubble machine going at the time and husband and wife confirm their vows... I thought that was something really special a man would do for the woman he loves.

I was fortunate enough to be asked to join the two lovebirds at the Sizzler today for their first Anniversary Dinner... The manager came out to wish them the best and the waitress brought out a chocolate-sunday they had to finish before they could leave and then sang an anniversary song to them.

Thursday 10- cloudy and cooler.

I received a package from Judy for my birthday in August. I thought that mighty sweet of her.

I had to visit the dentist again.

Friday 11- 101 degrees.

I actually cleaned around the place and did some laundry in the teeny tiny washer I have.

Saturday 12- 103 degrees.

I got a call from Kelly that she has a big yellow scorpion she caught under a bowl and sprayed huge amounts Raid under the bowl. She is still afraid to lift it to see if it is dead and I volunteered to come over and toss the poor thing out into the desert.

It was inside late at night when Cassie started barking. I went outside to see what it was all about; probably a rabbit I thought. Then I heard this muffled crying and great heaving of breath on the other side of the fence. I was about to go get my .38 when a woman’s voice called out for help. She had gotten lost in the desert for the past four hours and was tired and thirsty. I got her water and lent her my cell phone for her to call her boyfriend. He came got her 20 minutes later and all he did was holler at her and was being very mean, but he drove off before I could say anything.

Monday 14- 95 degrees with a few clouds.

I did my morning exercises and took Cassie for a mile jog.

I went to Burrtec waste services in Yucca to sign a waver so I can have a dumpster delivered to my home. I decided it is time to clean up the place after over 16 years of junk accumulating on my property. While I was out that way I went to the animal shelter not more than a mile away to get Cassie’s dog license. It was closed on Mondays but the kind lady saw me and said she’d handle it. I paid for three years so I won’t have to worry about that. Then I went down into Yucca, the waste place and shelter are up the hill aways, and went to a few car lots looking for a truck. I think I found a really nice one too, a 1999 Ford F150 6cyl with 140k miles on it. I talked to the sales guy and he had one of his mechanics go with me for a test drive. Drove mighty fine it did. When I got back home I went online to review other F150s and this one was priced about right compared to others I found. I called the sales guy and told him I wanted it. I might get it on Wednesday and they’ll come pick me up at home.

I took Cassie for her evening walk and for her nightly run after I did my exercises.

Tuesday 15- it rained all day long.

I stayed inside. I decided I didn’t want a tablet from AT&T that FedEx was going to deliver today and the AT&T Reps I catted with last night told me just to refuse the package and I will get a refund. Since it was raining I called FedEx and told them I refuse the package so the driver wouldn’t have to drive all the way out here if the roads became impassable.

Wednesday 16- nice cool day.

Jeff showed up around 12pm to pick me up and take me to the bank and then to the auto dealership. I paid and everything went well and I turned the key, the engine started, I drove it off the lot and immediately the battery light came on and off again and the dashboard controls went wacky. I drove it around the corner and back into the lot. We all had a look-see under the hood and found that the cable to the alternator may have come loose. We securely plugged that in and then the truck wouldn’t start at all. I spent another hour there with them; I figured it was a bad fuel pump. They gave me a loaner car and I drove over to Sherry’s house and we then we out to the Mexican restaurant for lunch. I drove back to the lot and they said it looks like a bad fuel pump and they’d have to order one. So I drove the loaner car home and a little shaken about the truck I had just purchased. It may be a blessing in disguise that it went out when it did right at the lot. Now it will be fixed.

Thursday 17- 91/66 degrees.

I did my exercises and took Cassie for a mile run.

The dumpster was delivered to my home. Now I can start cleaning up the place and remove the junk I’ve accumulated here since 1997.

I went to my 2pm appointment with my Dentist. All went well as expected.

I did my evening exercises and too Cassie for her walk.

Friday 18- 94/69 degrees.

Had to wait for a call from the auto dealer to see if my truck was fixed. It was an electrical problem where you can start the truck remotely had been disconnected wrongly by one of the previous owners and finally shorted out and burned out the fuel pump. I drove to Yucca in loaner car to pick it up. Drives nicely again.

Took Cassie for her evening walk.

Saturday 19- 100/84 degrees.

ARRRRR ya seafaring scurvy crew of misfits, it be the day we all been waiting fer... TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!!!! Keelhaul ya and hang ya from the mizzen mast... ARRRRR!!!!!

I had a hard time sleeping and slept in later than I usually do.

I started cleaning up the yard and dumping trash into the dumpster. Moved the Harley from the garage to the battery room with the little scooter. Now I can kinda park both my Cougar and part of the truck under the roof of the garage.

Me and Cassie went to Movie Night at the community center to see “Hot Rods From Hell” (1967).... very bad acting is what made this film fun to watch with friends. The young 17 years old girl Tina Phillips was played by Laurie Mock who was born in Sept 1944, making her 23 at the time of the filming.

Very funny was the scene when "young" Tina was in bed getting horny (we all laughed), got up and stood at the open door to her bedroom to look at the bar across the parking lot where a band was playing and young people dancing and making out. Tina got dressed and then climbed out the window; why didn't she just walk out the door. We all wondered about that one.

I believed the actor who played the Dad was drunk half the time slurring his words, but then again in the movie he was taking medication for a bad back and overplayed it a little?

Had lots of fun there with my desert friends. Mary Helen gave me a Dalmatian scarf she found while cleaning up a 5th wheeler she and Steve acquired; I thought that mighty kind of her.

The hotdogs wrapped in bacon was a hit, along with other munchies. I spent $7 for all this; what a deal! :)

Sunday 20- 103/80

Cleaned the yard up some more and I almost have the dumpster filled already.

Talked to family and friends.

Took Cassie for an evening and night run.

Monday 21- heavy layer of clouds (Stratocumulus) and 95/74 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Talked to my brother Kevin like I do everyday. He is also reading the Geology book that I have.

I went to work on cleaning my garage out so I can get the Cougar and truck even further inside and under the roof. I moved a whole lot of junk that needs to be sorted through; keep, giveaway, throwaway.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie. I did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I read one of my study books: Physical Geology: still working on chapter 4, about Plate Tectonics: Divergent & Transform Boundaries. Convergent Plate Boundaries; ocean to ocean, ocean to continent, and continent to continent Convergence. Backarc Spreading. The Motion of plates. Plate size. The attractiveness of Plate Tectonics (why is it a better theory that matches nature better) I remember when I was a child being taught the old static theory and always wondered why South America and Africa fit like a jigsaw puzzle.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a night run with Cassie, did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I practiced my guitar for a spell playing my old songs.

I worked on editing my “Thought of the Week” book... Finally :)

Tuesday 22- 95/69 degrees clear skies.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

Turkey Vultures: I saw one just early this morning gliding up high over my home. Magnificent birds in flight to watch! Later, on my morning jog I saw a bunch of them off in the distance circling around something; maybe a dead jackrabbit.

I did more work in the yard and filled the dumpster some more.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie. I did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I read one of my study books: Physical Geology: still working on chapter 4, about Plate Tectonics: what causes plate motion, mantle plumes and hotspots.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a night run with Cassie, did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I practiced my guitar for a spell.

Cassie BD 2015.jpg

Wednesday 23- 98/74 degrees.. heating up a bit.

Kick back day! The First Day of Autumn (Autumnal Equinox) 2015

And Cassie's 2nd Birthday today!!!!!!!

We celebrated with hot dogs and a nice evening walk together :)

I called the Automobile Club and had them put the truck on my insurance; I almost forgotten all about it and thought I’d better get it done while I still had it in memory.

Thursday 24- 102/81 degrees.

I drove my new truck (1999) to the dentist and I think this will be it for a spell... finally! I went to the post office to pick a replacement for the badly worn out copy of “365 Starry Nights” that I’ve been reading for many years. I ordered the new copy because the pages have all fallen out of the old and it was getting almost impossible to comfortably read, handle and sort through its scattered pages. I stopped by Staters Bros to get some supplies. When I went back to my truck I couldn’t get the dang key thingy to open the door. I tried different buttons on it, but still didn’t work. Interesting to me was every time I pressed the open button I would hear a chirp off in the distance; hummm. I then tried the key in the door but it wouldn't work. It turns out I was at the wrong Ford F150 when I noticed the sweater sitting there in the passenger seat; I don’t own a pink sweater. A lady walked by and I lamely explained to her what stupid thing I have done. So it was the chirp I heard in the distance which turned out to be my truck. I walked over to it and noticed the rear tail lights were on; I figured it was to show me where the truck was parked at night. Hearing what sounded like someone left their engine idling nearby while putting the groceries away I looked around to the nearby cars and saw no one. I only realized after getting into the driver’s side and looking at the RPM gage it was my truck that was idling. I had started the dang truck remotely by messing with the key thingy at while trying to get into the wrong truck. I kinda had the same thing happen when I first bought my Cougar and confronted a man who was getting into what I thought was my car which was actually parked five cars down; I kinda had to really apologize to the man for that one.

Friday 25- 104/76 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for her walks.

I spent a few hours trying to straighten out a billing problem with AT&T that I created by refusing a package that contained a tablet I decided I didn’t want.

I worked on my book for a long spell.

potluck09-15.jpg

Saturday 26- 102/74 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for her walks.

Potluck: great food, great friends, good times!

supermooneclipse.jpg

Sunday 27- 102/71 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I called family and friends throughout the day.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie I did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I got out into the backyard to watch the Lunar Eclipse around 6:40pm as the Moon rose over my hill. It had already was at a crescent and as it climbed higher above the horizon the crescent slowly became smaller and smaller until at 7:12pm it had totally disappeared and the Moon was a blood red.

Monday 28- 103/72 degrees.

I got up really late and was unable to take Cassie for a jog or do my exercises because it was too dang hot.

I read one of my study books: Physical Geology: still working on chapter 4, about Plate Tectonics: the relationship between plate tectonics and ore deposits.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I practiced my guitar.

Tuesday 29- 102/71 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

The dump truck came and dumped my full dumpster and I started loading it up.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie and did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I worked on my “Thought of the Week” book.

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells and went for a night run with Cassie, did some pullups and punched the heavybag for a round.

I practiced my guitar for a spell.

Wednesday 30- 101/70 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a morning walk.

UPS delivered my new $49.99 Amazon Fire Tablet.

Me and Cassie went for a night run up and down the hill.

A box I received was awaiting for me, carefully wrapped with birthday wishes, ribbons and bows neatly tied. A pixie I see has taken a fancy to me, I open her gifts with love and respect, not even a rip, I gaze upon them with delightful joy. Behold me lie upon my bed the loving gifts of a woman in her prime; unraveled, unburdened, unbounded, unfettered and beckoning for my needs. I shout who am I to receive such bounty that cometh into my life, for such a fair beauty to see through a humble facade and still desire a convoluted soul as I.

The night Alexa lost her mind: How AWS outage caused Amazon Echo mayhem” by David Gewirtz

My Reply:

Excellent story and writing! Yes, I have had some strange going ons with Alexa. Sometimes she makes a loud low noise like a burp in the middle of the night. When I try to watch reviews and videos on how to use Alexa and they ask their Alexa a question, my Alexa comes back with the same answer... Well the same goes with "Hey Google" too :) What I'd really like to see is to change the name from Alexa to something more personal, like "Computer" in Star Trek, now that would be cool. I expect that in the next reincarnation of Alexa or update there'll be a way to store important info like turning on and off lights and the such... maybe hooking her up to your own home cloud as a backup would resolve the problem :)

Again, Love your writings!

When we find the courage to write and put it forth for the public to read and ponder, we dare climb out on that limb of life alone to dangle at the whims of others. The more we write and the more feelings we put into our words the farther out on that limb we go. We can sense the limb growing weak, but we continue to write and create because that's what we do and who we are. And when we climb too far out and the limb snaps it will be our real friends who will be waiting down there at the base of the tree we grew and the limb we broke to catch us falling.

Hey Ya (a love song)

You are the earth, I the moon, my love evolves around you.

Like the plow that turns the land that brings forth the life, you bring the best out of me. Among the stars in the sky you caught my eye, you are the light of my life.

I say hey ya, say hey ya, you are the light in my life.

I say hey ya, say hey ya, you bring the best out of me.

I’d climb the highest mountain just to call out your name, cause you're the girl that I love. You're the wind in my sails, the star that guides my way, you are the one that I adore.

Say hey ya, I say hey ya, you are the one that I love.

Say hey ya, I say hey ya, you are the one that I adore.

When we were young and so much in love, you were the girl of my dreams. When I grow old, to my final day, you’ll be my girl, my life.

I say hey ya, I say hey ya, you are the one that I love.

Say hey ya, I say hey ya, you are my girl, my life.

A Question of Race:

When the census worker interviewed me and asked what race I was I told her to leave it blank because I believe it really shouldn't matter to the government what race I was... Then a few weeks later another census worker came to do a follow up and read off my replies I gave to the other. When it came to race the other one put down white even though I told her not to. I told this worker and she reported it to her supervisor... Nobody needs to know what race you are and it should be forbidden to have that question, among others, on any employment application or government record... People are people so get over the race thingy I say!

I have fallen... I have taken a deep plunge into the darkest chasms where all light and hope is swallowed up whole and hidden, never to grace the green pastures again with my presences or lie in the tall grass to gaze at the clouds above, for I am forbidden... As I fall farther and deeper into this void I see reflections of my youth and of choices I've made, but I am forbidden to intervene... faster I plunge, I fall gaining much speed, all hope is now lost, all hope is gone, for I am forbidden... But who is this "who" who has forbidden me and taken away my right to be who I am, to fail or succeed, to make those choices of right or wrong? To hell with this I say and spread my arms become wings and soar up through the darkness and out of deepest chasm and into the brilliant light of actualization, for I am not forbidden to think for myself, because all along that "who" who decides and has held me back was in reality me, myself, and I.

Lost at Sea (a short story)

Lightning gathers upon the horizon, seagulls take flight and race away, dark clouds begin to roll with thunder, a great storm is now coming our way.

The storm be quick falls upon our sailing ship, a once blue sky has turned to gray, giant waves in sets they are ah building, the Captain commands us to hold fast and stay the course.

Not seek comfort or shelter in just left harbor, but sail beyond to distant shore, we advance through wild seas with awe and wonder, working the ship to its destination without remorse.

Be brave me lads, he shouts as the seas grow taller, praise those so hearty and so bold, for they be fearless and courageous to see what lies out yonder beyond the shore.

Bow crashing through humongous swells so steep, that quake and shudder timbers and tremble my feet. Where I’m stationed at the helm, I can feel vibrations from the down below, the sounds of the hull giving way to let in the sea, a sound so sickening it overwhelmed me.

A loud crack resounds throughout the ship, the main mast has splintered and shattered onto the deck, held now by rigging as it punches through the planking that used to be where I was standing, I am tossed to and fro and hit my head on the ship’s binnacle, I had fallen and bled, but now have risen.

Take heed I say as I shook my skull, to regain what senses if I had any left at all, and took command as I saw our Captain laid before me, or what had been the remains of him.

Man the pumps we’re taking on water, before the keel drags and weights us under, to the bottom we shall surely go.

Relentless waves now be pounding fore and aft decks sweeping helpless men over by the score, they drift away with other flotsam and jetsam, to vanish in the sea to be seen no more.

Useless now the rudder, no steerage to stay the course. The pumps have been taken over, not by men but by the sea, it fills the ship with cold gray water, abandon ship, I give the order as the deck sinks out from under me.

My thoughts now drift to a young maiden, in whose sweet soft hot loins my seed I planted while misbehaving, in a hayloft above the stables, by a cliff overlooking the sea, on one clear night when the moon was shining, she had asked me not to go sailing, but instead to stay and start a family.

Knowing he would never see her again, he sat on the folding chair he had brought down to their favorite beach to stare at nothing as the sun crossed the brilliant blue sky above. A little Ray of Sunshine.jpg

Saturday 01- lots of humidity

I did my exercises.

Sunday 02- lots of humidity

I took the day off and worked on editing my book.

Monday 03- 106 to 77 degrees.

I did my morning exercises.

I updated my HP Stream 8” tablet with Win10 only after I had a successful update yesterday of the Dell 8” tablet that gave me so much trouble when I first bought it.

Tuesday 04- hot!

I did my morning exercises

Wednesday 05- hotter still

The road crew was still working on Winters road down more towards the community center. My car almost grounded out where they had already gone through with a bulldozer on Monday. I stopped to tell them about almost getting stuck and ask them if it was clear to go the otherway to Lear ave. They told me they didn’t work that area and they were doing the best they could. I told them I wasn’t complaining I just wanted to know if I can come home by way of Lear ave and Winters. They said they didn’t know.

Cassie and I went to town to visit Sherry and her three dogs, Barney, Abby and Willie. While they played outside me and Sherry ate at some Mexican resturant that had some mighty good food. They we did our shopping.

Instead of coming back home my usual way via Border to Winters road, I decided to come home by Lear and Winters road because I was afraid of getting stuck in the sand. This took me about ten miles or less out of my way to get home.

All the trails I created and walk on thru the years were washed away two years ago with the September 6th 2013 storm. I had made new paths I walk my dog Cassie down and now they were washed away by our last storm we had. We'll just have to start new footpaths through the desert...

I have video of "WAVES" coming down Winters just west of my home posted up on my FaceBook page; I have never seen waves on Winters road before. I couldn't get thru for a week until the road crew came and cleared it away, but when I tried to get thru it to go to town my little car bottomed out and almost gotten stuck. I stopped and talked with the road crew who were working farther west on Winters and told them. Now they have put some asphalt at some intersections but nothing at the bottom of my hill where most people get stuck... seems to me they just dug it deeper with no outlet for the water. It'll be interesting to see what happens after the next big storm comes through.

Thursday 06- it rained at 1am and came down pretty heavily for a short spell.

I did my morning and evening exercises.

Friday 07- high winds and a dust storm came through our area. So I just stayed inside editing my book and eating comfort foods.

I ate way too many donuts and other cakie bits that my stomach hurt really bad and I couldn’t sleep until late into the next morning.

Saturday 08- my birthday.

The phone was out (that’s my excuse for no one calling me) during the morning hours possibly because the road crew came back to redo the road where I and everyone else had a hard time going through and may have damaged the buried telephone lines. Thank you to those who tried to get through by phone, and to my Facebook friends for the many many birthday wishes.

Sunday 09-

I still felt bad from Friday's donut binge

Monday 10-

I did my morning and night exercises.

UPS delivered my new Acer 11.6” ChromeBook I ordered from Amazon.

Tuesday 11-

I did my morning and night exercises.

My refrigerator died and my food was starting to warm. I remembered I had an old one I took out of my camper that runs on AC and DC. I manhandled it into the house from my storage trailer, plugged it in and it worked! I quickly transferred my food from the non working refrigerator into the now cooling one...

Wednesday 12- 104 degrees.

I did my morning exercises.

I finished editing my book, but will have one more read through for mistakes I missed. Then I’ll publish it.

I watched the Perseids Meteor Shower... at 10pm didn’t see any, and then at 1am they were coming down. I saw some mighty fine earthgrazers

Thursday 13- 107 degrees.

I did my stretches and cleaned up to go to town.

Friday 14- 109 degrees.

I did my exercises.

Saturday 15- 111 degrees.

Movie night.

Sunday 16- too dang hot so I just stayed inside and edited my book.

Monday 17- 114 degrees.

I did my morning exercises.

I went to the dentist at 2pm, and then went shopping and also brought home some fast food from the Chinese shop in the Stater Brothers shopping complex.

UPS delivered cover for HP Stream 8 I ordered from Amazon.

Tuesday 18 to Saturday 22- 112 to 110 degrees and hazy.

I did my morning exercises, and ran a mile with my Cassie almost everyday.

I spent many hours working on editing my new book “The Scalloped Edge” and finally finished the last edit before I do a read through.

Sunday 23- 106- 77 degrees,

I can not believe Windows 10 is even running on my Dell Mini 9. I have an SSD 32 GB storage and 2GB of RAM on the mini 9. The first time I tried to upgrade from Win7 I ran out of room even though I had a USB thumb drive for Windows.old and I delete Microsoft Office to gain more space and ran the upgrade again. I didn't think it would actually work and come up with some error. The upgrade took forever to complete but it worked as you can tell in the video. Also I forgot to add that the Edge browser works great and is fast. Win 10 works better and quicker than any OS I've had on the mini 9!

Wednesday 26-

I got word that my sister Donna passed away. We all knew it would be soon; she had hung on to this life for a very long spell, even longer than the doctors thought when they gave her days if not hours to live. I made calls to family members who may not have heard. I was going to cancel my trip to town I had planned, but my Brother and Sister said I should go and not be alone. Went to Sherry’s with Cassie. We went out to eat and then shopping... I probably wasn’t very good company.

Thursday 27-

Went to dentist... Ouch! I had to get pain pills afterwards and drove to JT from 29 Palms and the Pharmacist and waited until he said that the prescription had to be signed and not stamped. With a lot of pain because the anesthetic was wearing off, I drove to 29 and back to JT... and waited some more... once I had it in my hand and in the car I took one and quickly drove home. For the next few days I couldn’t exercise and was quite out of it.

Friday 28 to Monday 31

I spent all day editing “The Scalloped Edge”... My brother Kevin was a great help with the punctuations and such. We collaborated for over five hours on Skype to finish the book and then I published it on Amazon Kindle:

An under-equipped police department of a small desert community is faced with solving the bizarre murder of a chicken farmer. Following the killer's trail leads to uncovering a mysterious cult performing ancient sacrifices in the mountainous regions of the desert badlands.

To see beyond the starry realms and cast a course to guide our helm, to a faraway land, but yet so near, where elves gather and fairies take flight, leprechauns dance and unicorns play. Elyzabeth, I want to tell you a short story. It goes something like this:

We have had a few big storms come through here lately that virtually made it impossible for me to use Winters Road to go collect my mail. My sister Donna was going to pass away soon and I decided to just stay home by the phone to await the call. My spirit was very low at this time. The road crew spent 3 days repairing the road with bulldozers and large graders. So when they were done I made plans to go to town and visit my friend Sherry and leave my dog Cassie there to play with her three dogs while we went shopping and I bought much needed supplies.

At 11:20AM the call came from Florida that Donna had passed. I placed calls to the rest of my family to tell them the news or comfort them if they had heard about it already. I told them I was going to cancel my trip to town because I felt pretty down and out. My brother and sister both told me I should go ahead to town and be with someone at a time like this and not to be alone.

I was able to drive down Winters road to collect my mail and drove on to Yucca Valley to Sherry's. Feeling mighty sad I was going through my mail in her living room when I came across your card and opened it. To my surprise and delight it had all the signatures of my CERT Friends on it wishing me a Happy Birthday.

I cannot begin to tell you how uplifting this card was to me. This card you sent helped me get through a very rough day. Now when I start feeling down about my sister Donna, I open the card and smile, feeling good about myself again.

Thank you very much Elyzabeth!

Bob

As summer's heat melts away from my mind and becomes just a memory, the coolness of  September fills this space that summer left with the promise of autumn leaves.  Jack o'lanterns and trick or treat, turkey dinners too, and presents that do await under Christmas trees for wide eyed girls and boys. These are gifts for the months ahead, where water turns to ice and snow, we cherish these moments which fills the heart and sets our soul aglow.

Once a gift now has slipped these earthly bonds held tightly, set free to soar up high and lofty, to carry with you our love for such a kind soul as thee. We shall miss, but never forget your loveliness, your laughter and your smiles. So take flight our sweet Angel without a care or worry among the starry skies and be at peace again.

Snakes:

If one is in my yard I get a 5gal bucket and turn it on its side... I then "Talk" to the snake to calm it down and with a very long stick (I am very careful) push it into the bucket, turn it up right, put the lid on it and walk the snake about a mile away talking to it all the time. I then turn over the bucket and tell the snake it's alright to come out now, but don't come back to my yard. I respect all living critters...

Yes the eyes are the window to the soul and the gateway to what lies beyond that which we seek. When we look into each another's eyes we may see a reflection of ourselves; the mischief, the sparkle of happiness and youth that still remains waiting, wanting to be rekindled. To become more; to inspire, to be inspired, to create upon the vastness of this life a shelter to call your own and know you are not alone never ever again.

That’s what I see in your eyes.

July 2015

Aug. 2nd, 2015 03:44 pm
madgravity: (Default)

Wednesday 01 thru Tuesday 07

I started getting back into the swing of things after volunteering them long hours at the Lake Fire. I’ve been doing “lite” exercises (I decided to add lite instead of light because it makes more sense and English is a dynamic language anyways). It seems those eleven days took more out of me than I expected. I have to remember I’m not twenty-four anymore.

Wednesday 08-

Cassie and I went to Sherry’s house so she can play in the backyard with Willie, Abby and Willie while me and Sherry went to the Sizzler for lunch and then shopping for supplies.

Thursday 09 thru Sunday 12

I started editing “The Scalloped Edge” again. I had did a little bit before but needed to finish editing  “The Girl in the Cellar” which is the second book in the Copper Mountain Mesa series. “A little Desert Home” being the first.

I consistently did my exercises every day. I started feeling  pain in my muscles on Sunday and thought it was due to exercising too much.

Monday 13-  after I did all my exercises for that day I felt ill and on Tuesday I ran a temperature of over a 100 and slept most of the day. I canceled my dentist appointment for Thursday. Wednesday I did about the same, resting and staying in bed, but started feeling a bit better on Thursday after sweating it out in bed. On Friday I took Cassie for a couple of walks.

I get this alert over my cell beeping madly saying that there's a big dust storm headed my way. This is what the sky looked like...

Robert Deloyd's photo.

Here is what the sky looked like about 15 minutes later and moving closer really fast!

Robert Deloyd's photo.

Saturday 18- it rained all day long and into the night.

I was able to complete my morning exercises before it started raining. It started out with lighting and thunder that got so close to my home I could almost see the bones in my hand when I held it up to look at the electric skies. I had to disconnect my inverter to prevent it from being zapped like one did in another lightning storm last year. Then it rained all through the day darn day. I missed movie night at the community center. I think they went ahead and had it inside, but I’m still recovering from a cold and I’m not sure they’d allow Cassie inside the center. Once the lightning went by I reconnected the inverter and watched some videos on Python programing and some others on HTML and CSS webdesign.

Sunday 19- it was all bright and sunny so I put on my running shoes and took Cassie out for a run.

Monday 20- rained again.

Started again trying to edit “The Scalloped Edge” but ended up getting lost on the Internet of things.

Tuesday 21- windy with temps into the high 90s.

I did all my morning, afternoon and evening exercises.

A comment I wrote in response to an announcement for a new and “Better” Tablet...

To tell you the truth I am Tableted out… I have way too many tablets as it is and I will not go looking at anything new for a long spell… maybe in the next two years I might start looking to buy another, but right now the ones I own have and do everything I need. I have 4 Apples (the oldest I gave away), HP Stream 8 (that I like because it came with 200MB a month of T-Mobile for life), a Dell 8” that had problems from the get go, Lenovos, ASUS 8″ K011 (I like that one too), a Toshiba, Nexus 4 (mostly a phone but I use it like a tablet), Samsung Tab 2 and a whole bunch of others.

Seems like tablets grew too fast and I tried to keep up with the new this and that. Tablets have hit a barrier where there just isn’t that much new to add.

I found I really don’t like the 7″ ones but I like the 6″ and 8″ ones. But saying that I bought a Amazon Fire HD 7 just because it has the dang speakers separated so you can actually get stereo sound out of the darn thing, why other manufacturers haven’t done this is beyond me. Also while I’m ranting, why do they make tablets  so they’ll slip right out of your hands and onto the floor. The Amazon HD 7″ and 6″ ain’t made that way, in fact they’re pretty well built. Except for having a lousy user interface and no SD slot they’d be my choice.

I’d like to take all that’s good about each of my many tablets and throw them into a pot and with my magic wand create the one just right for me.

So if something new comes out between now and 2 years it better have an artificial intelligent that can hold a critical conversation with me (and I ain’t talking Siri, Cortana, Google or Alexa), cause otherwise I ain’t interested!

Wednesday 22- very windy, again with temps into the high 90s.

Thursday 23- clear with a light breeze and temps just over 100.

I did all my exercises throughout the day with Cassie tagging along.

I am trying something new call Haiku "a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables", and an App called Notegraphy for the background:

Robert Deloyd's photo.

Friday 24- temps around 100 degrees.

I had it all planned out in advance how I would spend the day. I had to get the Mercury Cougar smogged, a dentist appointment at 2pm and then to do some shipping at Stater Bros to load up on supplies. This was the order I had planned to do them. I figured it’d take an hour or more to get the car smogged; not so because there wasn’t any customers waiting and it took only 10 minutes. So here I am at 11:30 with two and a half hours to kill. I did my shopping very slowly and chatted with the employees working there as I shopped; I was in a very good mood having passed the smog test. It came to be 1pm and I didn’t want to keep the food I bought in the car so I drove to the dentist office where they would have just came back from and the door would be open. I carried my thermo lined bags of cold food into the office so they wouldn’t be exposed to the heat of the car sitting in the harsh sun. I actually got seen by the dentist early and was back home a little after 2pm to let Cassie out of her pin in my bedroom.

Saturday 25- temps around 102.

I gotten so into whatever I was doing that I forgot all about potluck at the community center. I was eating some leftover chicken around 6pm when it hit me that it was the last Saturday of the month.

Peggy calls to tell me to be on the lookout for two male boxer dogs that came over to her home but left.

Robert Deloyd's photo.

Later in the night I heard Cassie barking and went out to investigate and found one of the boxers and let him into the yard and put him in the dog pen.

Sunday 26- temps around 103.

I found the other boxer outside my gate wanting to be with his brother I guess. I let him in. I couldn’t get him into the pen and the other smaller boxer got out of the pen and they were both running around. I had to separate from the two males- they were giving her chase and she was running around with her tail between her legs.

Peggy sends out this email to everyone in the world:

“Two male boxers found in Copper Mountain Mesa 7/26. Brown and white. No collars. Not fixed. Need to find owners or maybe a temporary foster home.

Both appear trained, friendly and non-aggressive.

Bob Deloyd has both dogs right now and agreed to hold them until the shelter is open Tuesday 11am. But someone just informed me that the shelter wants money if you bring in a dog, which I don't have.

I posted them as "found" on Palm Springs Craigslist and on KCDZ Cruising Critters. No one has put them there as "Lost" : (

If anyone knows someone who lost or had stolen (or if someone can maybe foster) these very nice purebred dogs, please let me know.

Any help is appreciated. We will find out if they are chipped tomorrow.”

Later when the sun was low in the sky and it was cooler I went outside to play with the dogs. The Owner sees me playing with boxer dogs turns around and picks them up! Robert Deloyd's photo.

The owner was very happy to get them back and told me to thank you all. I told him all that we had done and what we had planned to do tomorrow. He said he'd make sure it wouldn't happen again.

Monday 27 to Tuesday 28-

Working on my book "The Scalloped Edge"... lots of editing to do!

Wednesday 29 to Thursday 30- Big fricken storm!

Just Before Storm... you can see it coming our way:

Robert Deloyd's photo.

Another storm is coming our way right now!

I'll probably be losing internet pretty soon...

And I was going to go to town today.

More Big Storm!

There were WAVES coming down Winters Road!!!!

It blew down one old abandoned house. The electric and internet was out and the cell tower nearby got spotty and calls were dropped.

Had a big storm come through here and lost internet and just came back on... the community lost power and are just getting it back on now. The internet is going in and out and can't post pics or video yet... maybe later....

Thursday wasn't as bad but there was a whole lot of lightning and some rain.

Friday 31- no storms but lots of humidity!

I did my morning exercises but it was too hot and muggy to do anything afterwards.

Sometimes I like to speculate on stuff that has no answers yet. Here is an article I was reading and thought I might look into it:

Over the past year, there's been a whole lot of excitement about the electromagnetic propulsion drive, or EM Drive - a scientifically impossible engine...

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

So fair this lass and in her prime for she held the reins to my heart and mind. Down on the parapet outside our bedroom we would sit with lantern lit and wait for darkness to unfold. Then we gaze into infinity’s eyes of what we call the starry skies. But this night she fell asleep a sleep so deep she slipped from chair to floor. I carried her to our bed of rabbit furs and goose stuffed quilts where our cat lie in comfort ever content.  Hold tight the bedsheets my love, I yelled, cause the angels have come to spirit you away. I beat them back their attack as I do for every night, cause what may be a soul so pure does not belong in the presence of me.

I am trying something new call Haiku "a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables", and an App called Notegraphy for the background...

A Haiku:

Thought lost in the past / we write our words become on / if very nicely done

Another Haiku

boat drift softly about / then a big wave comes and breaks / a sinking feeling

I miss the fog more than anything else from the coast except for the many memories that fill my mind with sensations of wind brushing against my cheeks as it fills my sails, the smell of salt spray as the bow breaks over and past yet another crest on our way to the island.

Changing one's life can change one's perception of the world. If change is what you seek the world around you is changing all the time.

I think of all the advances in science and technology in our lifetimes we have witnessed and it awes me to no end. But we have so much work to do on the social, environmental and political levels that if not solved may carry us all into a deeper and darker dark age than in the past.

May you have an awe inspiring fantastically marvelous spiritually enlightening meaningful life. Open doors to realms others fear. Sail beyond the sunset to stand upon the distant shores of faraway lands. Climb the highest mountains to shout down to the world below, "I am not like you". Never become complacent. Always question everything.  Dream, create and then cast your thoughts into words planting seeds in minds so others can absorb and question your visions. Build great long lasting friendships with people whose talents challenge you and you theirs. Never try to become like anyone else because you cannot be anyone else but you. May you find peace, happiness and meaning in your life.

It came from the sky!

The call came at night just after sunset to the Copper Mountain Mesa Police Department dispatch center. The new rookie Ami Ven was the only officer on shift at the time patrolling the town in an old 1974 Dodge Charger squad car. The city council wouldn’t approve the cost of any newer vehicles. The “Muscle Car” was like something out of an old ‘70s police TV show like Starsky and Hutch, Ami felt. Maybe she should wear her hair like Farrah Fawcett did back then. These old squad cars were kept running in perfect condition by Frank, a 59 year old master mechanic and part time fellow officer, who loved tinkering with anything mechanical.

“There’s several reports of a UFO flying in the skies in the vicinity of Winters Road and Bourland Pass,” announced the dispatcher’s voice over the squad car’s police radio.

“I’m on it. Be there in ten minutes,” was Ami’s excited reply. She has heard of UFOs being seen out in the desert and now was her chance to really observe one. She then punched the “pedal to the metal” for the first time ever in this ancient jalopy and was surprised to be thrown and pinned against the driver’s seat as the old Charger’s highly modified engine gulped fuel down its Holley four barrel carburetor to turn it into 450 plus horsepower. Rocketing down the road at eye watering speeds she arrived at the scene in five minutes.

She found the folks of this small desert community standing around in awe watching a small object zip across the sky, and then making loop de loops as if showing off.  Some spectators came excitedly up to her squad car as she opened the driver’s door with the emblem CMMP painted on its side.

“Do you see it?” asked one.

“Look it’s looping around again and now shooting off across the sky at tremendous speeds,” explained another.

Always the skeptic, Ami left the crowd of awed spectators and headed off in the direction of the object. She walked a quarter of a mile to where she found a string tied to a fence post. She cut it and the kite attached drifted off into the night sky never to do a loop de loop or fly across the night skies at tremendous speeds again.

Ami walked back to the crowd still gathered waiting for the “UFO” to return and Ami Ven didn’t say one word to them about it only being a kite.

madgravity: (Default)

June 20- Facebook post: My CERT team got called to support the firefighters up near the fire in Pioneertown, So I won't be on FB today or even maybe tomorrow...

(Little did I know that I’d be there around 11 days)

"The Lake Fire was reported just before 4:00 pm on June 17, 2015. The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is approximately 23,199 acres in size and burning in timber. It is currently 21% contained.

Mandatory evacuations include: Areas along Hwy 38 east of Angelus Oaks to Onyx Summit, Barton Flats, Seven Oaks, South Fork, Heart Bar, Rainbow Lane, Burns Canyon, and Rimrock. There is a voluntary evacuation in place for Pioneertown..

Highway 38 is closed between Angelus Oaks to Lake Williams.

All Hiking Trails into the San Gorgonio Wilderness Area have been closed due to the proximity of the fire to these trails. The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is closed from Whitewater Preserve to Onyx Summit.

State Highway 38 will remain closed indefinitely due to reduced visibility and firefighting operations.

The fire remains active in the northeast. Today the fire made a push northwards toward the Rainbow Lane Area but at this time no structures have been lost.

Approximately 360 campers were safely evacuated from the Camp Oakes in the Lake Williams Area on June 24th. This was a precautionary evacuation due to the large number of campers. The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department is handling the evacuations. The American Red Cross Evacuation Center is located at the Big Bear Community Church, 40946 Big Bear Blvd, in the city of Big Bear. CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) are on-scene to meet campers at the evacuation center and help reunite campers with parents.

The south side of the fire continues to burn in steep and rocky terrain with minor growth downhill hitting areas of unburned trees and grass that ignite and then burn again downhill. Additional crews have been inserted into the Ten Thousand Foot Ridge and will proceed toward the eastern Forest Boundary.

Resources on scene include:

103 engines

3 air tankers

2 DC-10 VLAT (Very Large Air Tankers)

18 helicopters

4 support planes

54 crews

19 water tenders

8 dozers

1874 personnel assigned to the fire

There have been four firefighter injuries.

Fire management is under Unified Command with Cal Fire, San Bernardino County Sheriff, San Bernardino County Fire, Big Bear Fire Department and California Highway Patrol. The Incident Command Post is located at Big Bear High School."

I am a CERT volunteer up in Pioneertown helping with the Lake Fire. I've been working 14 hour shifts at the fire in support of the Firefighters supplying them with food and refreshments and helping with evacuations of Rimrock and Burns Canyon. In no time was I in any danger.

PIONEERTOWN — The Morongo Basin Community Emergency Response Team has been training for an incident like the Lake Fire since 2010.

From 9 a.m. June 19 until Tuesday, members of the local CERT chapter had a chance to put their training into action.

The team opened Station 38 in Pioneertown, and 52 volunteers spent over 1300 hours manning it around the clock.

They provided food, water, rest, information and support for firefighters and residents of Pioneertown.

Morongo Basin CERT Coordinator Nancy Guinn said the team did a great job in their first live action.

“It was the first time that we worked together in a live support-team environment,” Guinn said. “We did an outstanding job with teamwork, logistics and planning.”

This pic was taken on June 25 when there was a call for mandatory evacuation of Burns Canyon and Rimrock, and a voluntary evac for Pioneertown. Helping setup a Red Cross shelter at Copper Mountain College.

Tuesday 30- Well it’s official, it is all over now!

I got the call at home this morning just before I went to bed after spending the night at Firehouse 38 in Pioneertown that we were closing down our operations there and I wouldn't have to come in tonight.

I have met some incredible folks these past 11 days and feel mighty proud how everyone came together from the Firefighters who did a magnificent job of putting out the Lake Fire, CERT volunteers who opened the firehouse so those fighting the fire had a place to eat and rest, Sheriffs who manned the roadblocks to keep the lookie-loos out of the way of firefighters and evacuees, families and business donating food and drinks. I feel mighty proud how everyone came together in a time of need, but that's what we do as Americans isn't it......

By the way I’m the old man standing at the back of the line to the right, behind all these wonderful people.

Thursday 18- 104/80 degrees
Because of all the smoke in the air and the heat I thought it best we stay in the house the rest of the day.
This is what the Sun looks like over my house right now. I can look directly at it through the smoke from the mountains. Ash is beginning to fall around me from the fire. The temperature should be 100 degrees now but it's only 78 degrees. My solar panels are just keeping up with my refrigerator, the only time this happens is when there is snow covering them or heavy smoke:

I finally finished my 7th book The Girl in the Cellar

Smoke rising from the San Bernardino mountains today.

My home with smoke clouds from the fire in the mountains

Another angle of my home with smoke clouds

Friday 19- 110/78 degrees with smoke.
I don't know if you can tell from this picture but the smoke has gotten worse while the temperature keeps going up. 105 right now expected to go as high as 109... I'm inside with Cassie.

 Saturday 20- lots of smoke!
My CERT team got called to support the firefighters up near the fire in Pioneertown, So I won't be around today or even maybe tomorrow...

* I will write about the Lake Fire separately...

***** Stuff I Wrote this Month******

I enjoy writing... it flows out of my brain into my fingers as they fall upon the keyboard to gather into some kind of framework like building a house.
First you need the framework.
Then you add the plumbing, put electrical wiring in the walls and then paint it. This is called editing...
Don't care much for editing...
But you wouldn't want to live in a house with only the framework completed.
Once you have it all built you must go over it again and again until making sure everything works correctly and the paint dries smoothly. Once all this is done it is ready for others to move into. I don't get writer's block. I don't do this for fame or money. I would rather call myself a storyteller than a writer because that's who I am.
~RD

Write what you want to say not for what you think other people want to hear... unless you're stuck writing obituaries.
~RD

The only thing that set us apart from our biological selves is our intellect and it is the only thing that’s going to save us from ourselves.
~RD

I am and always will be a night person. Even as a young child I would stay up late into the night in my bed staring at the room's ceiling lost in thought thinking of adventures and wondering about the world and my place in it. Then abruptly being awoken at 6:30am in the early morning having to get ready for school... and they wondered why I always fell asleep during class. Tis a great folly to think one size fits all.
~RD

Time is lost to those who wait
so do it now before it's too late
lost in thought as time ticks away
slipping into darkness on our finale day
all the stuff of life we let pass us by
words to friends and family left unspoken
at our loss their hearts now be broken
no more chance to play at having fun
a tinge of guilt for creativity left undone
we pray we wish for just one more day
then into the night we quietly fade away....

May 2015

Friday 01- 94/67

Still sick in bed from the flu and the internet keeps going in and out and then finally stopped around 8pm. I slept most of the day anyways.

I watched a DVD movie “2012”

Saturday 02- 96/65

I did light exercises and took poor Cassie for a walk. She’s been a mighty fine girl trying to keep me happy in my sickness and curling up next to me while I sleep.

I mostly just stay in bed hoping this all goes away before my dentist appointment on Monday.

I watched a DVD movie “Sahara”

Sunday 03- 91/64

Buried Sherry’s cat.

Monday 04- 87/63

I went to the Dentist and had four implants drilled and screwed into my upper jaw. It didn’t start hurting until I had my prescription filled at Star Pharmacy (Codeine). Dentist said not to anything but rest for a few days and no exercises.

I watched a DVD “U571”(2000)

Climbed up on the roof at night and somehow fixed the WIFI antenna and now I have the internet again.

Tuesday 05- 89/58

Bed rest and pain pills.

I watched season 7 episode 22 of “Castle”.

Wednesday 06-

Cassie and me went to visit Sherry and I helped her buy a new TV and set it up while Cassie played with Barney and Abby outside.

I watched season 4 episode 22 of “Person of Interest”.

Thursday 07- very windy!

Still not exercising because of the sutures on the four implants still hurts a bit and can’t chew anything yet.

I went to the post office to mail out a promised signed book “Azure Sea of Dreams” to a friend and pick up a package that contains a mobile hotspot I ordered from Freedompop just in case my WIFI goes down again. The service is cheap but it works very well out here in the desert when I tried it out.

I watched season 3 episode 23 of “Elementary”.

Friday 08- 67/50 degrees.

I’ve been sleeping very long hours (12-13 hours + naps) since the dentist did the four implants in my upper jaw. I think my body is trying to heal itself. I have no energy at all. I have been taking Cassie for a few walks here and there but at no set schedule.

Saturday 09- 78/48

I tried to do my exercises but the pain pressure on my upper jaw was too much.

I just let Cassie go romp in the yard all most of the day.

Sunday 10- 86/58

I watered the plants and filled the pool.

I took Cassie for some short walks.

Monday 11- 88/62

I did light exercises; my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile walk, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for a round.

I might have done too much and rested for the rest of the day.

Tuesday 12- 82/56

I took Cassie for her walk and waited for the WIFI repair guy to come out and replace my cable and antenna. He came around 1pm and was very nice and pleasant.

Wednesday 13- 80/54

I did my stretches and took Cassie for her walks. I still feel weak recovering from having the flu a few weeks ago and the work I had done at the dentist on Monday the 4th.

Thursday 14- very windy 70/56

Dentist appointment to put two implants into my lower jaw. It didn’t hurt at all until after I got home and in bed. I’ll be down for a couple of days taking codeine and letting my jaw heal. All the painful stuff at the dentist is done now!

I took Cassie for a short walk when I got home.

Friday 15- 63/49 degrees with wind.

Took it easy because of the new implants; very painful.

No walks today, I just let Cassie loose go in the yard.

Saturday 16- 70/50 with wind.

After taking Cassie for her walks I slept most of the day and missed Movie Night at the community center. I probably wasn’t up to it anyways because of the codeine I took for the pain. The two lower implants are more painful than the four upper ones.

Sunday 17- 81/52 more wind.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile run.

Monday 18- 81/57

Because of my dentist visit Thursday I didn’t do much of anything today except take Cassie for her walks.

Thursday 21- 83/56

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile run.

I had to get ready to see the dentist at 1pm she is going to remove the sutures from the implants. I got there 45 minutes early and waited around. I went to the Dollar Store next door and bought a few things for the dog. After the dentist removed the sutures I went to Stater Bros to pick up a few more items. I even stopped off at Burger King for a hamburger to take home... kinda like a celebration of sorts for getting over the worst and hard parts of the orthodontist procedure and the fact I haven’t eaten anything solid for the past two weeks or so since this whole dentist thing started: it was my decision to have it done anyways.

Friday 22- 73/53 rain!

I did light exercises: my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for a minute or so.

I did my studies; a lesson in “1100 words you need to know workbook” and I drew something: Teeth smiling.

I read a couple of pages from my encyclopedia (I had started this maybe fifteen years ago and didn’t get very far).

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a night run with Cassie.

Did some editing of my book “The Scalloped Edge”.

Saturday 23- 81/58 with a little bit of wind in the evening.

I lifted weights, Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for a few minutes.

Somebody a mile from my home had a wild party that started at 3pm and blasted away music until 8am Sunday morning. The music, especially the fast deep thumping of the drums, was so loud it came through my thick walls to keep me awake most of the night. They have done the same last year but it wasn’t this loud. If it’s only one night once a year I can deal with it and let them have their fun.

Sunday 24- 86/59

Talked to my brother Kevin. He said the guy came out to look at my trailer and wants to purchase it. I told him I accept the guy’s offer and to send the Arizona DMV paper so I can get it notarized and sent back. For the past many months I’ve been searching for a piece of land to buy to put the trailer on, one of many alternatives I came up with and to sell it was one of them. The person we called to ask about moving the trailer was instead a buyer of park trailers and rents them out on his property.

Monday 25- 89/65 degrees.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I worked on my computer installing Windows 10 release 10122 from 10049. It took all day to download the dang thing and at 3am in the morning it finished only t0 get hung at 18% on the install. I left it that way and went to sleep hoping it would continue and be done when I awoke in the morning.

I found the fix for the Windows 10 release 1022 and went into command prompt typed in a few lines after I ran a program downloaded from sysinternals. I rebooted the system and after awhile it went pass the dreaded 18% and on to 19% as I let my breath out and on to completion. This release has a new lighter browser called Edge and I now have sound!

I took Cassie for a walk while listening to the last history lecture in this series (Twilight in the west) now I’ll have to find a new lecture to listen to. We spotted a horneytoad on the trail and I held Cassie back as it ran under some scrub, she would have eaten it, and we sat down to watch it crawl around for a short spell.

Wednesday 27- 93/69

Cassie and I went to Sherry’s. I needed to cash a check at the bank and get a notary to sign an Arizona DMV document for the trailer I own and send it to my brother Kevin by two day FedEx so he can sell it to the buyer. Afterwards Sherry and I went to Walmart to do a little shopping. We ate a couple of quarter-pounders with fries at Sherry’s house I had bought at the McDonald's in Walmart.

We got back home around 7pm and Cassie was so burned out from playing with Barney, Abby and Sherry’s new puppy Willey, she quickly fell asleep.

Thursday 28- 96/72

I called the dentist when I woke up at 10:10am and they asked if I can come in at 11:00. I said yes, throw on my clothes, brushed and cleaned up, put Cassie in her dog pin, jumped in the Cougar and made it there with 5 minutes to spare.

After the dentist I went to the post office in 29 to get a 14W 5V portable solar panel that charges cell phones, tablets and such.

I stopped by Kelly’s house for a short visit and say howdy to all her critters.

I connected it all back up only to find that my Internet is down again, dang. I got my T-Mobile hotspot up and running after paying ten dollars for one Gig of data for a week so I’ll have some kinda Internet until I get my regular one up and running again.

Took Cassie for a walk when I got home.

Friday 24- 77/51 degrees with lots of wind.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I did my studies; a lesson in “1100 words you need to know workbook” and I drew something: a windy day.

I went to WalMart to get a few supplies and a pool cover I hope is big enough.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie while listening to a history lecture (State and society in the high Roman empire). I did some pullups and punched the heavy bag for a round.

I read one of my study books: History (Greek religion).

Too windy for a night run.

I watched season 3 episode 21 of “Elementary”...

Saturday 25- 62/51 degrees with clouds and rain.

Sherry came by on her rounds and said howdy to Cassie and me.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I started cooking up my Chili Supreme Surprise Casserole.

I did my studies; a lesson in “1100 words you need to know workbook” and I drew something: the Internet.

I went to potluck and was there with my friends feasting away at the succulent food everyone brought.

It was just too windy with sprinkles and just too stuffed from all the great food at potluck to do my exercises but I did take a short evening walk with Cassie.

I watched season 5 episode 4 of “Game of Thrones”...

Sunday 26- 76/56 degrees no rain, just windy.

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I did my studies; a lesson in “1100 words you need to know workbook” and I drew something: a happy laptop.

I was sweeping up the floor and sat on my glasses that I had left on the bed. Spent the next 45 minutes soldering them back together.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie while listening to a history lecture (crisis and recovery of the Roman Empire). I did some pullups and punched the heavy bag for a round.

I read two of my study books: Astronomy (the Copernican Revolution), and Brady Emergency Care (module 1 chapter 1: introduction to emergency medical care).

I did my stretches, lifted 20lb dumbbells, and went for a night run with Cassie, did some pullups and punched the heavy bag for a round.

I practiced my guitar for a spell.

Monday 27- 83/57 degrees.

I woke up with a slight sore throat and thought I’d be okay and pushed through the day... almost...

I did my stretches, lifted weights, yoga, took Cassie for a mile run, core trainer, and punched the heavybag for three minutes.

I did my studies; a lesson in “1100 words you need to know workbook” and I drew something: sick in bed.

I did my stretches, lifted 10lb dumbbells and went for my evening walk with Cassie. I did some pullups and punched the heavy bag for a round.

After a while I started feeling badly and just watched “Tracks”(2013) about a woman in 1977 who walks across the vast deserts of Australia to the Indian Ocean, 1,700 mile trek. A very wonderful movie.

Tuesday 28 through Thursday 30-  82/56 degrees.

                                Sick in bed....

Not feeling well I decided to lie down for a little while and went to sleep and not waking up except to use the bathroom until 1pm the next day. I tried to work on my books and my studies but found it hard to concentrate because of a bad headache and gave it up for the rest of the week.

Life is not about collecting shiny trinkets and selfish desires or being subservient to someone else's dogma. Life is about friendships, loved ones and the interesting people we meet along our journey through life. If it wasn’t for our compassion, our creativeness, our curiosity, to have loved and to have mourned, the planet would be just another lonely rock adrift in the cosmos.

Yup it's spring alright with all it’s colorful hues of reds and yellows and greens, the smell dirt being worked, of fresh cut grass and the fragrance of flowers lingering in the clean spring air.

March 2015

Saturday 07- 80/49 degrees Tucson.

I arrived back to Tucson around 8:30am and Kevin my brother was waiting there in the parking lot to take me back to the trailer park, but first I had him take me to Carl’s Jr. for a big burger because I’ve only been eating those power bars except when I bought some crackers on the trip back from Tampa. We got back and I sat in the Jacuzzi for a long spell to soak off them buses off of me.

Sunday 08- 81/50

My day of rest after my ordeal on the buses.

Monday 09- 79/55 degrees

I did my stretches and Kevin and I took Cassie out for a mile walk.

We went shopping to get some supplies.

Took Cassie for her evening walk.

Tuesday 10- 80/52 degrees

I did my stretches, yoga, walked a mile with Cassie and my brother, lifted weights, swam five laps in the pool and rode my bike around the trailer park two times; I could have rode farther except my butt still hurt from being on a bus for four days straight.

Wednesday 11- 81/58

I did my stretches, yoga, Kevin and I walked Cassie 2 miles down to the bridge and back.

We went in my car and filled it up with gas for my trip home and then stopped off at WalMart to pick up a few things.

Me and my Brother took Cassie for a mile evening walk.

Thursday 12- cloudy all day, 79/59 degrees

I did my stretches and me and my brother Kevin took Cassie for a mile walk.

I did some driver updates on my Sony laptop.

We took Cassie for a walk down in the wash and saw a few little cottontails rabbits hopping around that Cassie wanted to chase, but I held her back. Paula said that Cassie caught and ate a lizard while she was staying with her while I went to Florida.

Friday 13- 81/57 degrees Tucson.

I did my stretches and we took Cassie for a mile walk before we went to soak in the Jacuzzi.

Saturday 14- 83/59 degrees Joshua Tree.

I got up at 3:30am and put the rest of what I was taking back to home into the car. I walked Cassie over to my brother Kevin’s trailer to tell him goodbye and had an uneventful 7 hour trip back to Joshua Tree.

Spent a few hours putting stuff away and watering my plants in the patio and laid down for a spell.

Found a dove’s nest with two babies in it on a shelf right by my front door. I have to be careful now not to upset them and keep a curious Cassie away from them.

I got back up to do a few more chores before I went to bed for an early sleep.

Sunday 15- 85/59 degrees with some clouds.

Cassie woke me at 3am; she had wet the bed... Bummer! I let her outside and replaced the bedding and put the wet ones outside. I was still too tired to deal with doing anything more. I didn’t get mad at her but will have her sleep on the floor or in her kennel for a few days until she cons her way back on my bed. Besides it’s only the third time this has happened and it was a long trip back home.

The parents of the baby doves were gone so I did my stretches, core trainer, lifted weights, punched at the heavy bag, and took Cassie for a mile run.

I was going to spray down the wet blankets and let them dry out but decided that I may as well just put them in the swimming pool and let them soak in there while I replace the water that has already evaporated away. I will fish them out tomorrow to dry.

I called Family and Friends to let them know I am back home. Then I went to work on a Dell desktop running Windows XP that Kula gave me and another Dell Laptop I recently bought that I am experimenting with Windows 10 on.

I took Cassie for her evening walk.

Monday16- 86/58 degrees with light scattering of clouds.

Baby dove parents were on the nest so I just did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

Fished all the blankets out of the pool and set them out to dry. Then I started using the vacuum apparatus hooked up to the pool pump to clean out the residue that had gathered on the pool’s bottom; dirt from high winds, bug parts... stuff like that. Had to clean out the filter many times and I still have some more cleaning to do once all the suspended filth from my vacuuming settles to the bottom again.

Tuesday 17- 80/66

I did my stretches.

Cassie and I went to get my mail that Sherry has been picking up for me while I’ve been gone for a month. Cassie got to play with Sherry’s dogs Abby and Barney and I know she would be tired when we got back home, hence the no walk for her in the morning today.

Wednesday 18- 77/68 degrees.

Baby dove parents were on the nest so I just did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

I dropped by at Kelly’s to say hi and we bought some fried chicken at Staters and then went to Burger King for fries and cokes and ate the chicken there.

Thursday 19- 80/57-

Baby dove parents were on the nest so I just did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile run.

I worked cleaning the swimming pool vacuuming it out what had settled from the last vacuuming I did. Now I’ll have to wait until debri settles again to see if it needs cleaning again.

Took my scooter to bring Kelly some bird seeds for her dove that has a nest built but no eggs yet.

Cassie and I went for our evening walk.

Friday 20- 82/57 degrees.

I did my stretches, yoga, core trainer, lifted weights, punched the heavy bag, and went with Cassie for a mile run.

Collected all my tax info and made an appointment to see an tax accountant next Tuesday at 2pm.

I took Cassie for her evening and night walks.

Saturday 21- 86/57 nice sunny day.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

There were three places I was supposed to be or was asked to attend today; all conflicting in time relative to each other that I could only go to one event. These weighed so heavily on my mind that I went into brain overload and attended none of them. I think I still need some downtime after my month of travels to Tucson and Florida.

Sunday 22-  79/56 cloudy and the wind has picked up mid-afternoon.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a walk.

Monday 23- 79/57 degrees with lots of wind throughout the day.

I did my stretches, yoga, core trainer, lifted weights, and took Cassie for a mile walk.

I called the doctor’s office and was told he signed the jury summons. While I was there I went next door and made an appointment to see the dentist next week on Thursday. I mailed the summons at the post office, stopped to fill my car, picked up a few supplies at Stater Bros and two Big Fish sandwiches at Burger King to share with Kelly if she’s home. She was outside fixing her swamp cooler getting it ready for summer; she needed the break and was happy for the surprise lunch I brought.

Tuesday 24- 80/57

I did my stretches.

I went to Yucca Valley to get my taxes done and dropped Cassie off at Sherry’s house to play with Barney and Abby. It took about an hour for H&R Block to do my taxes; I usually do them myself but this time it was more complicated than I could handle. Afterwards I took Sherry out to dinner at Carl’s Jr. and then picked up Cassie and headed home.

On the dirt road to my house a couple were stranded in their car on the side of the road. I gave the guy a ride to their house down by Aberdeen and Border to get his truck and tow their car back home.

I noticed when I came home at night one of the baby birds had left the nest. It was very windy and cold so I decided to take the one baby left by itself into my house nest and all where it could be warm. I went looking for the other baby and heard it tweeting and looked all around on the ground but finally found it with one of its parents perched high overhead on a beam of the patio keeping it warm. In the morning I took the nest back outside, the baby climbed onto my offered finger and I put it back in the nest. Then I heard the other one tweeting at me from a railing of the patio and it also climbed on my finger and I placed it back onto the nest with its sibling.

Wednesday 25- 83/59

I did my stretches and took Cassie for all her walks today and then mostly kicked back for some much needed downtime.

I did vacuum the pool’s bottom again and it was still dirty after it all settled. I will get some shock treatment for the water next time I visit WalMart.

Thursday 26- 89/60

I got up early to go to a doctor’s appointment in Twentynine Palms. I then went to Star Pharmacy to get my pills. I went to WalMart to get supplies and have my hair cut.

I took Cassie for a nice walk when I got back home.

Friday 27- 91/62

I noticed that the baby doves have left the nest so that makes me an empty-nester now.

I did my stretches, yoga, lifted weights, and went for a mile walk with Cassie.

I had to fast during for twelve hours and went down again to Yucca Valley to get lab tests my doctor ordered. I went to the bank there to deposit some checks I received.

Our little community's Saturday Potluck...

'Our little community's Saturday Potluck <3'

Saturday 28- 92/61 degrees.

I did my stretches, yoga, lifted weights, and went for a mile run with Cassie.

Cooked up my special chili surprise casserole supremo for potluck today.

I overfilled the pool with water while I talked to my brother. I then used the excess water by the buckets full to water the plants.

I then went to potluck where there was some mighty good food and mighty fine folks to yammer with.

Sunday 29- 92/63 degrees.

I did my stretches and took Cassie for a mile walk.

I finally got the “Gross Polluter” (my truck) working and moved it out of the garage and parked it outside. Now I can park the Cougar underneath where it is nice and shady. I also moved the Harley there too so I’ll have more room to start working on it.

I put the pack of shock treatment into the pool and tomorrow I’ll clean the bottom again and take some PH samples of the water.

Monday 30- 90/63

I did my stretches, yoga, lifted weights, and went for a mile run with Cassie.

I did my laundry in the little washer and hung them out to dry. I cleaned the pool’s bottom again with the vacuum thingy.

Tuesday 31-

I did my stretches, yoga, lifted weights, and went for a mile run with Cassie.

I worked in the yard cleaning and also cleaning inside too.

We just got back Home after being away for about a month. Cassie stayed in Tucson with Mark and Paula while I took Greyhound buses to Tampa Florida to see Friends there. It feels mighty good to be back home in good old Joshua Tree California!
